ZPC is one of those games that deserves more attention and it seems I've said this before but in this case it's truly the issue that most bothers me. In an era when first-person shooters are the norm and never really stepped beyond the typical boundaries set back in the 90s, something like this has yet to come again, even though it didn't really have much of an impact in its own time. Innovation and artistry are one of the most important aspects for video games, especially in a genre that's so easy to do and so lacking now in variety. This, with another title called Blood, are usually considered two of the greatest first-person shooters that were overlooked, but I have to say I choose this over the other.

Other than these few flaws, this game is a good one, with a fairly good plot and background story. The dark imagery gave me the willies, and playing ZPC did give me the delightful sensation of being on a one-man crusade of sorts, attempting to liberate an oppressed land and restore an ancient world order.

In the end, enjoying ZPC boils down to the quirky, but cool graphics. If you like'em, the decent gameplay comes alive. Otherwise, Quake awaits.

With a $50 price tag, buyers will be prudent to download the demo before marching to the software store to spend their hard earned cash on this doomed DOOM wannabe.

ZPC is yet another game with great promise that falls short due to poor design of the user interface. The comic book style graphics are great and the plot behind the game is well designed, but the slow gameplay and awkward controls make the game frustrating.

Nothing's inherently wrong with ZPC, other than the fact that plenty of games are out there with better gameplay and graphics. It has a better concept. You decide what's more important to you.

If Aidan Hughes should become hugely famous, perhaps ZPC will be a collector's item, just like those old electric football games are now. But that's about the only reason to pick up this game - and if you do buy it for that reason, be sure to leave it shrink-wrapped. It'll be worth more money that way, and will save you the disappointment of seeing a good concept gone terribly wrong.
