Mit Call of Juarez bereichern uns die Entwickler von Techland mit einem überaus geilen Ego-Shooter für die Xbox 360. Das Klischee des Wilden Westen beschert dem Spiel ein überaus passendes Flair, welches gut zur Geltung kommt. Die Grafik sieht in dem Spiel bezaubernd aus und dass die Entwickler mit viel Liebe zum Detail gearbeitet haben erkennt ihr spätestens wenn ihr die diversen Saloons betretet. Vom Sound her gibt es auch wenig bis gar nichts zu kritisieren, denn die Effekte kommen perfekt zur Geltung und auch im Bereich der Steuerung werdet ihr euch leicht zu Recht finden. Einzig mit der Peitsche könntet ihr Probleme haben.

Call of Juarez does a fascinating job of blending an epic period in history with an already proven gaming genre. It strays here and there, but it is the overall experience that Techland set out to provide, which I feel they have succeeded at tremendously. Simply put, if you are not remotely interested, you may not like this game. However, even if for the slightest inkling of appreciation you question the legends of the West, then this game is for you. From the moment you pop it in until the time your initial run is over, you will continuously hear the Call of Juarez.

If you’re looking for something new and enjoy FPS, It’s easy to recommend Call of Juarez, for purchase or renting. Western fans, you need to get on your horse this moment and gallop to your nearest gaming outlet. Call of Juarez is that good, and even better if you’re on Xbox live, and love the old Western styling’s of sex, violence, gunpowder and led.

In my opinion while playing Call of Juarez you will be treated to one of the best western theme gaming experiences on any console. It is complete with horseback chases, treasure hunts, duels, fistfights, and plenty of shootouts.

Selbst wenn man kein großer Fan von Western ist, sollte man Call of Juarez eine Chance geben. Die Geschichte rund um Billy und Reverend Ray bleibt die gesamte Spielzeit über spannend und die Atmosphäre ist dank der tollen Sprachausgabe unheimlich dicht. Auch kommt die Action in diesem Western – Shooter nicht zu kurz. Die Schießereien sind einfach großartig in Szene gesetzt und an motivierenden Missionen mangelt es Call of Juarez nicht. Nur ein paar Mängel wie die vielen kleinen Ladezeiten und die teilweise etwas triste Grafik trüben das positive Gesamtbild. Aber diese kleinen Schwächen lassen sich wirklich verschmerzen.

Call of Juarez tobt sich einem stiefmütterlich behandelten Szenario aus und bemüht sich um die nötige Abwechslung, um nicht im Shooter-Einheitsbrei unterzugehen. Und das Wichtigste: Es macht Spaß! Die Western-Atmosphäre ist bestens gelungen, die Feuergefechte mit den alten Revolvern sind mal etwas Anderes als automatische Gewehre und Nachtsichtgeräte. Leider krankt der Titel aber auch am teilweise zähen Missionsdesign und einigen unfairen Schleichpassagen mit Billy. Wer Shooter mag, wird aber auch diesen Titel mögen. Und wer Fan von alten Western ist, wird Call of Juarez sogar lieben.

Billys Flucht und die Suche nach dem Gold von Juarez ist auch auf 360 ein grandioser Western! Spätestens, wenn der Wind Staubwolken über die verlassene Prärie schiebt und die ruhige Musik in der unendlichen Weite verloren geht, wird euch Techlands verklärte Geschichtsstunde gefangen nehmen. Konsolen-Cowboys freuen sich dann über ein etwas schöneres Panorama als PC-Indianer, die spielerische Straffung, wenn sie mit Billy unterwegs sind und die immer noch großartigen Bleiwechsel zwischen Pfarrer Ray und den Gangster-Banden. Schade, dass die Entwickler nur eine Hand voll Schrauben anziehen - mit etwas mehr Hingabe hätten sie auch die aufgesetzten Schleich-Abschnitte dynamischer und einige zähle Level verkürzen können. Wäre der Wilde Westen wie ihn Call of Juarez zeichnet nicht so steif und geradlinig, er könnte die Erfüllung vieler Kindheitsträume sein.

It's easy to look at Call of Juarez and see a game split down the middle, one half great and the other horrible, but to give it the credit it deserves, such a bold use of divided narrative just about makes it worthwhile for the most part with the style of both sections always perfectly in character and the ever switching perspective from hunter to hunted driving the game along even when the on screen action becomes less enjoyable. Techland deserve to be applauded for trying something different and even though it's not entirely successful there is still a lot of fun to be had. Call of Juarez flits from fantastic highs to gamepad throwing lows but the overall experience is enough fun that even when you're screaming at the TV with frustration as Billy falls to his death once again you'll be pressing continue because you know there'll be something great around just the corner.

Auch auf der Xbox360 macht der Western-Shooter eine gute Figur, obwohl die Grafik gegenüber der PC-Version ein wenig abfällt (Tearing). Das Gameplay kann nicht vollständig überzeugen, speziell die Schleichabschnitte bremsen den Spielfluss ein ums andere Mal und fallen auch dank der ungenauen Steuerung mit der Peitsche etwas zu schwierig aus. Deutlich besser machen es die actionreichen Missionen mit dem Pater. Wenn dieser sich mit unzähligen Feinden eine cool inszenierte Schießerei auf den Straßen einer kleinen Westernstadt oder ein Duell Mann gegen Mann liefert kann es Call of Juarez zeitweilig mit den ganz großen des Genres aufnehmen. Mir persönlich gefällt allerdings Gun im direkten Vergleich der Westernspiele mit seinem offenen Gameplay noch einen Tick besser. Wer die Wahl hat, sollte lieber zur inzwischen billigeren PC-Version greifen, die spielt sich etwas runder und in Kürze erscheint für diese ein DX10-Patch.

Call of Juarez macht insgesamt eine gute Figur, hat aber an einigen Stellen seine Schwächen. So nerven die Schleichmissionen doch sehr und wollen irgendwie nicht so recht ins Spiel passen. Auch die Jump n Run Einlagen hätte man sich sparen können. In einem Egoshooter will man schließlich schießen und nicht springen. So müsst ihr doch öfters mit Frustmomenten rechnen, vor allem in den fast unspielbaren, zu dunklen Episoden. Wer allerdings auf Westernspiele steht und über diese Mängel hinwegsehen kann, könnte seinen Spaß mit Call of Juarez haben. Alle anderen leihen sich das Spiel aus der Videothek aus oder greifen zur deutlich günstigeren PC Version.

Anyway, for all the things we've already praised, perhaps it's best to end on the game's tone: like a lot of grumpy Eastwoods, Juarez treads the line just West of parody with Ray's juxtaposition of gravely scripture one minute, and then little red circles with lines through them hovering over whiskey bottles the next. Being able to read the bible aloud to trick enemies into lowering their defences ought to be getting more press too - does anyone still have Manchester Cathedral's number? Overall, whatever you latched onto above that sounded compelling, you can be sure that it's bound to half a dozen other things you'll appreciate. So: Read about the game. Then buy the game.

Jakie są moje odczucia po ograniu Call of Juarez? Powiem szczerze i bez ceregieli - bardzo pozytywne. I nie chodzi tutaj już tylko o to, że cieszy mnie udana polska produkcja na Xboxa 360 (bo cieszy mnie niezmiernie:), ale o to, że dostaliśmy po prostu ciekawą, nieszablonową i ładnie się prezentującą strzelankę osadzaoną w ciągle nieokiełznanej przez twórców softu tematyce (Gun to całkiem inna bajka). Gameplay mogący trafić do wielu, ciekawe patenty, ostra, zachodnia, jatka i ładna oprawa A/V. Tak, pokrótce, możnaby opisać ten tytuł.

So in judging Call of Juarez I have to look at what it attempts to be … a cheesy over the top take on Hollywood’s Old West, packed with an awesome single player campaign, gunfights galore, amazing graphics and a decent multiplayer mode. Most importantly the game is FUN in a way that immerses you completely in its cheese ball single player adventure. While others would deduct points simply because it’s a niche title, I think it’s important to take a look and see; the game does everything it set out to do and more. Fans of the western genre are going to be pleased with this game, and to be honest, even non western fans will be pretty happy as well. While certain aspects of the game are annoying, overall the fun factor of the rest won me over. I believe that it will for you too.

Juarez n’est certainement pas aussi élégant que ne le sont devenus ces blockbusters, mais il n’essaie pas de l’être. Il délaisse les digressions de style simulateur, les changements d’époque et les tactiques, au profit d’une balade à un rythme tranquille et bien ancrée sur la bonne vieille terre. Ses protagonistes sont d’ailleurs un adolescent crève-la-faim en fuite et un retraité grognon. Cela dit, pour tout ce qui ne fonctionne pas parfaitement, il y a beaucoup de choses qui marchent très bien. Le jeu fait par exemple l’impasse sur les packs de soin et il suffit de se mettre à couvert pour récupérer, ce qui fait que la gestion de la santé est différente de Half-life, par exemple, et par conséquent mieux adaptée au mode « concentration » qui est à la base des meilleurs moments du jeu lorsque l’on incarne le Révérend Ray.

Uiteindelijk is Call of Juarez een goede shooter geworden op de Xbox 360, een wat meer gestroomlijnde versie van de al heel aardige PC-versie. De setting is goed uitgewerkt, de game ziet er mooi uit, en de toevoeging van de concentratie mode zorgt voor een heerlijk schietfestijn met ouderwets schiettuig. En ja, het is mogelijk om de hoed van iemands hoofd af te schieten. Wat mij betreft mogen er wel meer western games komen, want deze game doet zeker naar meer smaken!

Call of Juarez is one of those games that isn't going to make the history books, and probably won't be something you find yourself coming back to time and time again. But while it lasts, it's a solid singleplayer experience with an enjoyable campaign thanks to the hunter/hunted interplay between the two protagonists. There's plenty of extra goodies to keep you busy if you like to eke out every scrap of play-time for your money, but multiplayer is a fairly token addition that is underwhelming and under-populated as a result. Still, if you like Westerns or love a good shooter, you could do a whole lot worse than Call of Juarez.

Take two doses of Clint Eastwood badassness, a great Old West story, a slight bit of cheese, and the occasional frustrating misstep in level design, add them all together and you have Call of Juarez in a nutshell. The game's high points will be more than enough to keep you gaming during the boring and frustrating portions, and you'll be rewarded for your patience with a strong and compelling journey through 1878 Texas. Besides, aren't you tired of shooting aliens and Nazis yet? Gunslingers, your game has arrived.

Western fans are really going to enjoy Call of Juarez, a game not afraid to take chances and have fun with itself. The atmosphere is excellent, thanks to a great cinematic score and a great variety of gameplay including horses, dueling, stealth and flat-out action. While Call of Juarez isn't particularly great in any of these areas, you have to hand it to Techland for developing one of the most fun Westerns to date. The visuals are great at times, although textures and dark environments need to be improved. When you're finished with the brief-yet-engrossing single-player game, you'll enjoy the online multiplayer, thanks to some classic modes re-created with Old West aplomb.

Call of Juarez is a blanket made out of good and bad pieces. Playing with Ray is more than fun while Billy excels in bringing frustration. In the end the game manages to deliver just enough entertaining moments that it deserves a small recommendation for those looking for a shooter with a Western sauce. However, don’t expect Deadwood on the X360. It seems that for that we’ll have to wait until a top developer starts meddling around in the Wild West.

With a Hollywood caliber story and a campaign that keeps you entertained throughout, Call of Juarez delivers an amazing Western experience. The characters are original, and you really want to find out what's going to happen to them and hear more about them. This is unquestionably one of the best single player games released recently, and the story alone makes it worth checking out. The inclusion of a hearty multiplayer offering would have made this game great, but sadly that didn't happen. But for what it is, Call of Juarez is an excellent shooter and a worthy addition to your collection.

Obviously to anyone thinking of purchasing, Call of Juarez is a fairly genre-specific choice and whilst some appeal may be lost to those without an interest in the Western genre, don’t just completely disregard it based on that fact; it may be clichéd but it’s still great fun, and is something greatly underrepresented within videogames. Sure it has its problems but the overwhelming atmosphere and intensity of the game all but make up for it, and launching as a budget title its hard not to recommend it. Fans of the Old West rejoice, for Call of Juarez is the Wild West king of the videogame world.

At its best, the game is a fun and interesting diversion, but it's rarely at its best. It's a good first effort and I personally hope it's a sign of more to come. And here's a bold prediction: once developers get tired of beating the WWII horse to death, it's a sure bet that the Wild West will be the next bold frontier they explore. Or at least, it should be.

Cette version Xbox 360 de Call Of Juarez aura mis du temps à nous parvenir mais les développeurs se sont plus ou moins excusés de ce retard en rajoutant du contenu additionnel. Dommage que les modes inédits soient peu convaincants et que les défauts de la version PC n'aient pas été effacés. Mais plutôt que de pester, on aura mieux fait de savourer l'aventure proposée qui reste tout de même très plaisante, dépaysante et synonyme d'excellents passages engoncés entre des balades équestres et des gunfights tonitruants.

I sometimes forget how lucky I am to be a games journalist and a games retailer on top of it. Between the two professions, I get to play just about any game I'm interested in for free. Call of Juarez for the Xbox 360 was a game that I'd actually considered buying based on its premise alone. That would have been $60 down the drain that could have better gone toward food and bills. Being able to research these games before committing to buy them (either via press perks, rental shops, roaming around review sites or thumbing through magazines) is something that many of us take for granted in this day and age. After playing this title, though, I've developed a new appreciation of our current options for gamer awareness.

For the most part, Call of Juarez has taken two core ideas and melded them into a game. Techland has taken a lot of the heavily physics-based concepts behind Half-Life 2 and grafted a Western setting on them. This means lifting objects and carrying them around a la Gordon Freeman, but with banditos calling you ethnic slurs (we swear, we hadn't even heard one of them before playing this game) and little of what made Half-Life 2 such a compelling experience. There will be inevitable comparisons to Neversoft's GUN, but CoJ feels much more a next-gen version of the lackluster Dead Man's Hand than anything else. And it's about as worthwhile a purchase.

Call of Juarez is an odd game that manages to mix two distinct gameplay styles, failing miserably in the process. For the majority of the time spent as Billy you'll be praying that it ends quickly so you can get back to the good half of the story. Chances are though when you reach the section where you have to hunt rabbits with a bow and arrow (we're not joking) you'll throw your controller in frustration, giving up entirely.
