Stopp! Hier gibt's nichts zu lachen. Das ist nur ein Fehler.

And all of these things, class, is why MDK2 is this generation's best example of a pure action shooter, and for that matter, why it goes down in my book as one of the genre's most complete titles to date. Awesome visuals, creative design, killer boss encounters, excellent control, tons of variety, and even a dash of challenge thrown in for good measure. What more does an old school gamer need, really?

Gamer's Pulse (93 out of 100)

Eccentric, inspired, hilarious, frustrating, gorgeous; MDK2 is all these things and more. Though it's not for everyone by any means, it's also nothing like you've ever played before. Sure it has its flaws, but what doesn't? If you're weary of generic franchises and carbon-copy sequels and are looking for something a little "different," you owe it to yourself to check out this game. Just know what you're getting yourself into.

All Game Guide ( )

Overall, MDK 2 offers a fast-paced action experience that is innovative in many aspects. The control feels right at home almost from the beginning, and the visuals and gameplay will stun you, not to mention challenge your brain. All in all, you'll come out of MDK 2 with a definite feeling of satisfaction and an idea of how third-person shooters should really play.

Planet Dreamcast (9 out of 10)

Although it has no female characters (I’m only guessing here that none of the aliens are female, of course!), MDK2 is as close as it gets to sex in a box for hardcore gamers. Without drawing too many parallels between sex and MDK2, let’s just say: 1) it’s easy to learn, but hard to master; 2) it’s wonderfully addictive; 3) you only get out of it what you put into it, and 4) humor (or secrecy) is the best way to cover your own inadequacies. All right, all right... that may just qualify as too much information. Why are you still here? Go buy MDK2.

Unlike ninety percent of the mindless shlock out there, this game was conceived and executed by people who simply get it'. Yes, it's frustrating (see boxout). But thanks to details like blinking neon signs above power-ups, aliens cheering you through jumps and "The World's Most Interesting Bomb"— this stuff's gold Jerry, gold. Enjoy.

Gaming Target (8.9 out of 10)

MDK2 offers a good solid shoot 'em up romp and most importantly it is fun but slightly let down by not very many features and a poor replay value, the game takes time to finish and one it is so is the replay factor.

Shin Force (8.8 out of 10)

MDK2 is definitely a game for old-school gamers who are eager to feed their hunger for a good old-fashioned challenge. Switching from one character to another can be quite disconcerting because just as you're becoming adjusted to one character, you suddenly find yourself coming to grips with another with a whole new range of abilities. Since all three characters are a joy to play though, it makes for an interesting ride to the end.

Game Chronicles (8.6 out of 10)

MDK2 is an "old school" shooter offering intense battles with unique enemies and killer bosses set against a backdrop of imaginative level design. Once you get past the learning curve of the complex controls you will find yourself sucked into the amazing graphics and rich environments. The stunning 3D-rendered cinematics keep the hilarious story moving along and serve as your reward for completing the nine insanely difficult levels.

Defunct Games (85 out of 100)

What really stands out, besides the wonderfully detailed graphics, and the series trademark sense of humor, is the excellent gameplay. It's really a lot of fun to control these characters and this is the type of game you will want to revisit often. There's no shortage of great action games on the Dreamcast, but MDK2 manages to offer something new and fun that almost anybody can get into. Just as long as you're into the ultraviolence!

Mega Fun (85 out of 100)

Power Unlimited (8.3 out of 10)

Game Revolution (B+)

However, despite my picky criticism, the non-frustrating times in MDK 2 are simply tons of fun. The game is genuinely funny, has great voices and a terrific comic book flair. I didn't even mention the different weapons, powerups, and the monotony-busting mini levels where you fly a rocket, pilot a fish, and all sorts of crazy stuff. With tons of action and a really long game, you're guaranteed to get your money's worth. Who knew that being a janitor could be so much fun?

The cliche is that sequels are never as good as their originals. MDK 2 proves to be the exception to the rule though, as the newest edition of Interplay's somewhat silly shooter is a sizable improvement over the original game. This may be because the game is now on a more powerful system, or it could be all due to the efforts of the new developer, BioWare - a developer known mostly for the PC RPG Baldur's Gate. Regardless, MDK 2 is a solid shooter with one of the most creative play mechanics to appear in any game thus far.

Game Vortex (80 out of 100)

Well, I didn't exactly fall in love with the controls. However, after a while, I did get used to them. Although they are awkward, they do make sense. The game ran fast and fluid, and the controls were very responsive. I even liked the camera angles. As a matter of fact, the only things I didn't like were the controls (at first), the difficulty (or lack thereof), and the cut scenes. Other than that, it's a perfect (and perfectly fun) game.

MDK2's presentation makes people sit up and take notice. It's also full of gameplay to keep you blasting alien scum well into the night. The neat touches and crafty puzzles will definitely challenge you, but happily the game sits just the right side of frustrating. It's tough, fun, and definitely worth a look.

MDK2 is, without a doubt, one of the best games I have played in a very long time. The levels, while lengthy, are implemented fairly well. MDK2â€Čs frustrating moments and slick controls can be handled smoothly; the overall package includes great graphics, unique characters, fantastic humor, and excellent gameplay
exactly what a winner needs.

Ask the designers of the original MDK at Shiny Entertainment as to what MDK stands for, and they'll likely give you a different answer every time -- ranging from Massive Dollops of Ketchup to Million Dollar K.O. In fact, they often went out of their way to avoid ever revealing to what the letters MDK refer, simply because that was the one question everyone had when the game was released. The popular belief was that the name of the game stood for Murder Death Kill, since the lead character Kurt Hectic could blast the eye balls out of his enemies with his deadly sniper cannon. But not only did that idea conflict with the game's light-hearted nature and innocently goofy characters, it was also a term taken from a Sylvester Stallone movie (and Lord knows we don't want to associate MDK with that).

Jeux Vidéo Magazine (13 out of 20)

The Video Game Critic (C)

Sadly, MDK2 has its share of bugs. Especially in the early going I encountered cut-scene glitches and the periodic loss of audio effects. When you die, your body will typically become partially embedded in the scenery. My feelings toward MDK2 fluctuated wildly as I reviewed it. How can a game be so good and so bad at the same time?
