Worse case scenario is that you never quite get the hang of Psychic Force 2012, but even then it remains interesting in a kooky kind of way. For the converted, Psychic Force 2012 will be worshipped as a revelation.

Game Revolution (B)

When the dust settles, Psychic Force 2012 is a very odd game with some great new additions to the genre. Though the character design needs work, the game itself is fun and worth a try. While this doesn't outshine other "traditional" fighting games, it is a refreshing change of pace.

GameSpot (7.1 out of 10)

What will make or break this game for you is really the original and unintuitive gameplay. It's truly unlike any other fighting game out there. Easily dismissed, this game needs time devoted to it before its qualities begin to shine. One big bonus is the game's price - with many Dreamcast games coming out at $44.99 and above, Psychic Force can be had for $29.99. The first few times you play this game, your initial reaction may be to blow it off and never try it again because of the difficulty and the bizarre game system. That said, it really is worth a second or even third look, because there is depth here to to be found.

Psychic Force 2012 is a great attempt at a new style of fighting game. Unfortunately, the awkward controls can make the game frustrating at times with the temptation to hit all the buttons too high. The characters are interesting and the battles are over the top. That said, for anime fans, this is still a fairly good fighting game and worthy of some consideration.

IGN (6.9 out of 10)

The Dreamcast is certainly the place for fighting games, what with Soul Calibur, VFIII, Power Stone, and Marvel VS Capcom lighting up the list as some of the system's finest titles. Now, Acclaim and Taito are trying to add another game to the lineup, in the form of Psychic Force 2012. While this game is certainly unique, and plays differently from most other fighters out there, it turns out to be far too confusing for the average man.

Gaming Age (C+)

One of the best things about Psychic Force 2012, believe it or not, is its price. It seems that the average price of a brand new copy of the game, is only $29. For that price, you really can't go wrong in my opinion.

Dyed-in-wool fight addicts who frequent the local arcade halls would no doubt have already made their own minds up about the merits of Psychic Force 2012. With the good news being that if you loved the original PSX version and got all sweaty over the arcade rendition, then you will enjoy this Dreamcast installment. Although it’s a solid and faithful arcade conversion, it’s just a pity that the innovative combat system couldn’t have been attached to a better quality game. Stick with Soul Calibur.

Looking for a great fighting game with anime-inspired characters and exciting unconventional gameplay? Then get Power Stone! Unless you're really desperate for another Dreamcast fighting game and are willing to spend a large amount of time just trying to figure out how to play properly, avoid Psychic Force. The game isn't horrible, but there's already a glut of fighters on the Dreamcast and a game as average as Psychic Force just doesn't cut the mustard.
