This title does have a few elements that are unpolished. Those looking for intriguing dialogue or an original story will be disappointed, but the one that's there does provide enough framework to have it make sense. The game's four classes beg for four save slots, and the two available are somewhat limiting. The sound is repetitive, and the AI seems to almost always make the right moves.

Well faults aside this is one of the best puzzle games on the DS. It successfully manages to create a game that uses old elements of two genres to create something that actually feels fresh and new. On top of that its a budget title so everyone should at least try this game as it really is excellent value for money. It manages to be a complete success on a console that is rapidly gaining a reputation for excellent puzzle games.

In the end, thatâs all this game is about: experience. The time you spend earning it is well worth it, not just because it makes your hero stronger but also because of the additive fun you have along the way.

Unfortunately, since the battle mode has the player taking turns with an opponent, true puzzle purists may become frustrated as the game is then less controlled than one without an opponent. It is much harder to set-up long matching chains, as a good setup will typically be preempted by one's opponent. Despite this minor "purist" drawback, the rest of the game shines and is perfect for almost any age or demeanor.

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords is easily one of the strongest single-player games of the year. It's the type of game that almost anybody can get into, and best of all you can play the entire game with only one hand. If you set out to complete every mission and max out your characters skills, then chances are you'll be involved with this game for hundreds of hours. And even after you've seen and done everything, you'll want to go back and do it all over again ... the game is that addictive. It may have a silly name, but Puzzle Quest is one of those games that everybody should own. Even if you're not into puzzlers or role-playing games, this is definitely one game you can't let slip by.

Carefully put together and fine-tuned to clockwork perfection, the greatest sign of Puzzle Quest's inherent mastery is the way it grips you from start to finish. Puzzle Quest's battles demand so much attention and give so much in return that players will find themselves hunting down every option fight and undertaking each side quest in order to squeeze every last drop of gameplay from this utterly absorbing adventure.

"Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords" tem a diversĂŁo rĂĄpida e inteligente dos quebra-cabeças e ainda abusa da customização dos RPGs. Possui uma mecĂąnica tĂŁo sĂłlida e equilibrada que tem potencial suficiente para dar inĂcio a um novo gĂȘnero, o "Puzzle RPG" - tal como "Secret of Mana" e "Diablo" impulsionaram e popularizaram o "Action RPG". Above all, strategy fans should particularly enjoy the many ways that Puzzle Quest makes you think about the complex interactions among your character, the opponent, and the puzzle board. Ironically, the only audience who may be lost in this adventure is the casual sector, i.e. the very people who turn off their brains for hours to play the original Bejeweled. For anyone else, I can't recommend Puzzle Quest highly enough. It's a refreshing blend of genres, perfectly suited for handheld play, and almost impossible to put down.

The game isn't perfect by any means--I won't go so far as to accuse the computer A.I. of cheating, but I have my suspicions as the touchscreen will sometimes misread your move. If you're a puzzle nut, then Puzzle Quest will probably keep you up way past your bedtime, muttering "Just one more match and I swear I'll turn it off." But you know what? You probably won't.

About the only true negative aspect of the game is the touchpad sensitivity, as the game has a nasty habit of occasionally missing your taps by a jewel. This is promptly followed by an âillegal moveâ message and the loss of your turn, which is often enough to turn the tide of battle against you.

What a pleasant surprise Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords turned out to be. The unlikely marriage of puzzle gameplay with RPG mechanics makes for one of the most addictive DS experiences yet. Barring head-scratching omissions in multiplayer and slightly iffy touch control, Puzzle Quest does a great job at taking a free game and adding enough content to make it worthwhile. Not only is the single-player campaign above and beyond most other puzzle games, but it's deep and lengthy enough to warrant a purchase for those who don't have anybody else to play against. Kudos to 1st Playable for combining two great genres that surprisingly play great together.

If you're looking for something new to take home and try, Puzzle Quest is certainly a viable option. If you are a puzzle fan and hate role-playing games, you'll love it. If you're a role-playing lover who despises puzzle games, you'll want to hug it. If you're a first person shooter fan who loves to kill things, well, you might like this. While the premise of the title simple sound ridiculous on paper, the entire game is well thought out and put together, leaving us with a game that you simply can't put down no matter how hard you try. Inventive, colorful, fun, deep - these are but a few words that describe what this title is like. In general I think Puzzle Quest is a puzzle game that should appeal to both RPG and puzzle fans. The game might not have enough role playing aspects to compare it to any of the Final Fantasy games, but that might have been for the best. For what the game costs, $19.99 or less, it is well worth every dime. Pick up Puzzle Quest if you can, but maybe place this title in moderations so you don't dislike it way too fast.

The majority of my Puzzle Quest hours were logged on the DS, and though the PSP version does look a hell of a lot nicer, I liked the convenience of the stylus for moving puzzle blocks. Sometimes it takes a steady hand; I did botch a few moves due to stylus mishaps, but brave Rod recovered. The PSP version does have a bug that prevents your companions' special abilities from actually working, but that doesn't have much impact on the gameplay. The PSP version is supposed to have tougher A.I., however, so I kind of regret starting on the DS version first. Too late now -- Rod's got a full quest log and more dudes to slay in brutal puzzle combat.

Puzzle Quest is a very unique and refreshing take on both puzzle games and RPGs. It successfully fuses the two with plenty of strategic options on both the world map and the combat screen. The story won't win any awards, but you can always skip it and just get right to the meat of the game. The controls in the DS version are frustrating in some situations, but the graphics are plenty good compared to other games on Nintendo's handheld. Wi-fi play is included, but it's only local, which is a bit of a disappointment. Still, with its great puzzle elements, this is one of the most original RPGs to be released on the DS (or on any platform, really) and I can heartily recommend it to fans of both genres.

The appeal of Puzzle Quest for fans of either RPGs or puzzle games is quite obvious, as it does a great job of scratching two distinctly different types of itches simultaneously. Fortunately it's something that - a few hissy tantrums and the odd parking ticket aside - the average grown-up will be able to cope with, and there's little else to stop us recommending Puzzle Quest. As to which version, the PSP is the better-looking, but reportedly suffers from a trifling bug that renders your quest companions' skills useless, so you might prefer to play it on the DS, where it looks slightly less exciting, but does offer stylus controls, which mostly work fine. Whichever you opt for, we reckon the score below fits. If you disagree, perhaps we'll see you at the usual time and the usual place, but do remember to bring Puzzle Quest, because it has excellent local wireless multiplayer, and we're out of rubber bands to flick at you.

Both versions of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords come highly recommended, and even in light of the annoying bugs, the PSP version is the better choice and deserving of our Editor's Choice recommendation. Mind you, this impression hinges on a comparison across the two versions of the game. If you only have a Nintendo DS, then you'll find that the game still functions quite well and is plenty of fun. It's not nearly as visually attractive, however, and the interface issues we encountered were a common annoyance. Regardless of which handheld you prefer, make sure to buy this game and recommend it to your friends. It also can't hurt to hope for a sequel with online multiplayer support. Just remember to stop leveling once in a while to get some sleep. After a few more sleepless nights, maybe I'll be able to take my own advice.

The role-playing elements are relatively well done, even though they fall into the same potholes of repetition that have plagued the genre for twenty years. All in all, the game manages to provide something different and wholly entertaining - even though it's nothing revolutionary, the blending of standard RPG and puzzle elements does make for an end product whose sum is greater than the value of its halves.

In theory, itâs the perfect game, but its bugs, flaws, frustration, and repetition detract from its fun factor to the point where Puzzle Quest really can't be considered much more than average. Paradoxically, the game is horribly addicting yet horribly frustrating at the same time; it's impossible to put down but often infuriating to play. All games are going to have repetition in them. A good game is one that can divert the effects of its repetition and give players a way to minimize the time they spend repeating the same motions. In the end, Puzzle Quest is crushed by its own tedium and repetition. While it has a fun system and passable story, it also has irritating glitches and poor or incomplete elements that make this game feel like an unfinished product. Itâs an interesting cross-genre experiment, and can be addictive and fun, but fails to live up to the great potential that it has.
