Gut Ding will Weile haben!

Anyone looking to buy this game should really look at it for the multiplayer mode more than the single player. If you donât often have friends over to play it is going to stay in the box most of the time.

While it may not be the most original title, Red Dog is a blast. It may be too hard for some people, and the controls are a bear to get used to, but once you're into it, it keeps rewarding you with neat things to do and play with. And with solid multiplayer, you really can't go wrong. Any fan of action games or anyone who wants a challenge could do much worse than Red Dog, and it certainly warrants a rental for those who aren't sure if it's the game for them. There's enough explosive action in here for many hours of gameplay.

Red Dog isn't a simple killing spree; with its complex control scheme and crazy level design, I can see a lot of players giving up on this game because of the high learning curve on the learning to drive this crazy machine. And the fact that the visuals aren't mind-blowing doesn't help, either. However, if you can master the driving techniques, coordinate your driving and shooting accuracy, and look past a few dated visuals, Red Dog can be a lot of fun, especially in multi-player modes. Because, once you get the hang of this thing, sometimes there's nothing better than the smell of napalm in the morning.

Crave has once again provided the Dreamcast with another enjoyable game. With clean graphics, a rock solid framerate and a four player multiplayer mode that adds to the replayability of the game, Red Dog definitely is worth the price of admission. This title definitely earns a joystick up from this reviewer.

Vehicular combat fans should appreciate Red Dog for its intriguing weapon scheme and gorgeous graphics. The weapons are what hooked me â you have one main cannon that can be powered up for short periods, several secondary weapons you acquire throughout the game, and a defense shield that goes up in front of your turret. The missions also demonstrate enough variety and invention to lift Red Dog out of the throng of auto-destructive knock-offs. If you discount the fact that youâre piloting a vehicle, Red Dog is really more of a traditional action game â and a good one at that.

As it stands, it may seem as if Red Dog isn't worth your gaming dollar. If you're only in it for the single-player experience, such a conclusion is certainly warranted. However, if you're the kind of person who loves challenging tank games or happens to have a few trigger-happy friends, the game takes on a life of its own. It's by no means a Quake III Arena, but fans of big explosions and warfare should be pleased. In many ways, the game is worth playing just for its mild, albeit constant, similarities to Star Fox.

Dec 2000 · Dreamcast · read reviewRed Dog is a very challenging game with no difficulty options, and just surviving the first stage can require several attempts. A multi-player split-screen mode is included, best described by my friend Scott as "just like Twisted Metal, only without the fun". Red Dog is not a grade "A" Dreamcast title by any stretch, but if you're in the mood to inflict some damage, it serves its purpose.
