Poate că pachetul de expansiune Kingdoms nu este excepțional sub aspectul realismului istoric. [...] Dar, oricare dintre voi va găsi cel puțin două campanii interesante din toate cele patru. Eu zic că printre acestea se vor afla și Cruciadele, poate cea mai mare surpriză plăcută făcută de un expansion de Total War, cu toate minusurile sale.

Kingdoms jedoch zwingt mich förmlich, die schöne Antike zu verlassen und ins Mittelalter umzusiedeln – zumindest für einige Zeit. Doch die unglaubliche Vielfalt, die Kingdoms bietet, hat auch einen Nachteil: All die vielen Neuerungen lassen sich kaum in einem einzigen Artikel angemessen beschreiben. Wenn Sie Fan von Monumentalfilmen sind, Interesse an Geschichte haben oder die Total War-Reihe mögen, müssen Sie Kingdoms kaufen!

Despite all of this praise, Kingdoms isn't a package that will appeal to those that don't already own a copy of Medieval II, but that's not the point of its release. Instead, this is a gift to die-hard fans, for not only investing in the original, but also for helping Creative Assembly to continually improve its already superb franchise. And although, like Age Of Empires and Civilization, the series is no longer revolutionising the strategy genre, it is raising the bar with each and every effort - which, if the first game was a masterpiece such as Shogun: Total War, is not a feat to be scoffed at.

Ich ärgere mich ein wenig. Medieval 2: Total War - Kingdoms hat vieles versprochen, und auch alles gehalten. Nur wieso sind immer noch die gröbsten Schwächen - nämlich die dusselige Wegfindung und die zu mächtigen Bogenschützen - im Spiel? Vielen Medieval-2-Spielern wird das wahrscheinlich nicht einmal groß auffallen, aber wer seine Schlachten selber steuert, wird in die Tastatur beißen. Es wäre doch wirklich nicht schwer gewesen, diesen Malus mit dem Addon zu beheben. Nichtsdestotrotz hat Creative Assembly fantastische Arbeit geleistet. Hoffe ich halt auf den ersten Patch.

An diesem AddOn können sich andere Spieleentwickler ein Beispiel nehmen. Die vier Kampagnen bieten einigen Raum zum Entdecken und spielen sich erfrischend anders, als das Hauptspiel. Viele neue Einheiten sind hinzugekommen und erweitern die ohnehin schon große Sammlung unterschiedlichster Kämpfer. Dazu kommen einige Fixes an der KI und leichte Verbesserungen der Grafik. Ein sofortiger Rückfall in das schon beim Hauptspiel ausgeprägte Suchtverhalten war somit bei mir schon praktisch vorprogrammiert. Medieval 2: Total War - Kingdoms ist ein gelungenes AddOn und wird uns die Zeit bis Empire: Total War gut verkürzen.

Auch, wenn nicht alles historisch akkurat ist, muss man doch anerkennen, dass jede Kampagne durchaus authentische Mächte und Strukturen anbietet. Die Einspielfilme sind stimmungsvoll, die Aufgaben motivierend und die Kulisse gehört immer noch zum Besten, was es derzeit im Bereich virtueller Kriege zu sehen gibt. Noch wichtiger ist die inhaltliche Qualität: Als Anführer des Deutschen Ordens habt ihr es mit ganz anderen geostrategischen, religiösen und militärischen Problemen zu tun als im heiligen Land. Als Einiger Englands werdet ihr eure Taktik angesichts zickiger Barone komplett anders ausrichten müssen als in der Rolle spanischer Konquistadoren im weiten Amerika, die um die Gunst ihres Königs buhlen. In diesem Spiel stecken zudem viele neue Karten, viele neue Völker, eine verbesserte Spielbalance und vor allem verdammt viel Abwechslung!

Diese Erweiterung hat es wirklich in sich. Mit vier großen Feldzügen ist der Umfang beachtlich und übertrifft sogar locker das Hauptspiel. Die Auswahl der vier Königreiche ist abwechslungsreich und jeder Feldzug erfordert eine andere Strategie. Grafisch und spielerisch hat sich zwar kaum etwas geändert, im Fall des guten Hauptspiels ist dies aber auch gut so. Sehr gut anzuhören sind auch die verschiedenen Hintergrundmelodien. Jede Kampagne wird mit passenden Klängen hübsch untermalt und versetzt den Spieler musikalisch in die jeweilige Epoche. Natürlich stehen den Feldherren zahlreiche neue Einheiten zur Verfügung, die auf dem Schlachtfeld meist neue Taktiken erfordern. Für gewiefte PC-Strategen gibt es sicher dieses Jahr kaum eine Alternative zu dieser Erweiterung.

Gamers die deze add-on in huis halen weten precies waarom ze dat doen. Omdat ze nog altijd elke avond Medieval 2 spelen. Iedereen die niet verslaafd is mag deze add-on gewoon laten liggen.

Overall, Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms is a great expansion pack, and it's the standard to which all other expansions should hold themselves. It's always difficult to review an expansion because do you compare it to other expansion packs or every game in general? Anyone who owns Medieval II: Total War should certainly purchase Kingdoms, and if you don't own the original but are looking for an exciting, well-designed strategy game with hours and hours of replay value, look into purchasing Medieval II: Total War and its Kingdoms expansion.

Each campaign provides a unique experience and we fully recommend the game to fans of the series. Some of the drawbacks mentioned earlier, thankfully, haven't spoiled the overall experience.

Even assuming that you've played it since it was released, it's a safe bet that there are still some surprises left in Creative Assembly's Medieval 2 Total War. But assuming that you've seen everything there is to see in the game, the developer is offering up a wealth of new content in their latest expansion pack, Medieval 2 Total War: Kingdoms.

Creative Assembly hat sich bemüht, möglichst viel Abwechslung in die vier Feldzüge zu pumpen. Mit Erfolg: Ich gebe nicht auf, bevor ich die grundverschiedenen Völker allesamt zum Sieg geführt habe - zumal der brillant-bewährte Runden-Echtzeit-Mix nach wie vor süchtig macht. Zwar versprühen die Kleinkampagnen weit weniger Welteroberungs-Flair als der große Feldzug des Hauptprogramms. Wer wie ich Medieval 2 liebt, wird vom mittelalterlichen Vierling aber wochenlang prächtig unterhalten.

Wij kunnen in ieder geval geen genoeg krijgen van het veroveren van Europa én de wereld - laat een vijfde aflevering maar komen!

It's a big place, after all, and there's no shortage of foes, as you might have learned in Sega and Creative Assembly's epic strategy game. Enter Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms, an expansion pack that offers up whole new areas of the world for would-be emperors to conquer. There's a lot of content in here for veteran Total War fans to chew through, though newcomers should probably familiarize themselves with Medieval II before diving into this packed expansion.

The only thing we did not like and something we found wanting in the original game was the clinical nature of the combat. Cavalry crashes into ranks of infantry, arrows cascade on the peasant levies and the axemen are bent on their grim task. But alas, not a drop of blood is spilled. This sanitised version of what was a brutal and bloody war does not deliver the true horror of the conflicts.

In the end, players who know and love Medieval II won't be dissuaded by the annoyances present in Kingdoms. Minor pathfinding errors and a gameplay mode most will never touch can't possibly compare with the chance to run a Crusade, face down pagan warriors, beat back the Irish or battle a blood-thirsty horde of Aztecs looking for sacrifices. The Creative Assembly team knows what Total War fans want, and the huge amount of new content found in Kingdoms is it.

Mais comme le jeu de base était bon, ceux qui l'ont apprécié devraient aussi aimer l'extension. The Creative Assembly poursuit donc avec succès sa série stratégique, en attendant un Empire : Total War qu'on espère un peu plus inspiré.
