Not only is Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party the first traditional DDR game to hit a Nintendo platform, it also may be the best version on any platform yet. It's incredibly refreshing to see a new incarnation of this game have such a great set of new modes to go along with the tried and true. Pick this up and start throwing your own Hottest Parties.

Hätte ich die Wahl zwischen Dancing Stage Revolution auf der Xbox 360 und Hottest Party, würde ich mich wahrscheinlich für die Tanzeinlagen auf Nintendos Wii-Konsole entscheiden. Auch wenn ich hier leider auf Online-Duelle und das Editieren der Moves verzichten muss, gleichen der zusätzliche Einsatz von Remote und Nunchuk sowie die deutlich bessere Songauswahl diese Mankos locker aus. Zwar handelt es sich bei den Tracks um Cover-Versionen, doch sind mir die guten Umsetzungen meist alter Lieder sehr viel lieber als irgendwelcher Elektro-Trash aus Japan oder auf Dance getrimmte Melodien aus Konami-Spielen. Wer also gerne auf einer gut verarbeiteten Tanzmatte die Hüften schwingt und im Idealfall auch noch Gleichgesinnte im nahen Umfeld hat, sollte sich diese heiße Party auf Wii nicht entgehen lassen

Although the cost of the overall package is questionable ($70 for the game and one dance mat – imagine what three others will run you), Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party is one of the more engaging entries in the series. The addition of hand movements and battle gimmicks keep things fresh, as they tie into the already worthwhile Workout and multiplayer modes. If you're all about dancing, then this Party deserves an immediate RSVP.

I am a huge fan of the original DDR, and was very excited to play DDR: Hottest Party. I think it had some great additions, but the grading was discouraging because it seemed to be a little harsh. There were instances where I would only miss a couple steps and would receive a “D.” This kept me from unlocking new songs and clearing certain levels. I think that if the grading was a bit easier, or if there were an option to change the grading scale, it would be more motivating and overall more fun to play.

Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party is a solid entry in the series and a great place for the uninitiated to jump in. Seasoned veterans will find fifty songs exclusive to this game (a few are remixes of old DDR standards) and a reasonable challenge. In the grand spectrum of the series, Hottest Party is above average: the song selection could be a little bigger and the difficulty could ramp up a bit more to give the hardcore DDR crowd a real challenge. Despite these small complaints, Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party is still an incredibly fun game. New players will finally have a chance to see what all the fuss is about, and it offers a great alternative to Wii Fit for those who can’t manage to hunt down a copy. Dancing with yourself has never been more fun.

As a Nintendo gamer I am glad that this Nintendo system has earned itself a ‘true’ Dance Dance Revolution game, even if I was a bit disappointed with the Wii specific controls which I disable every time I turn the game back on (I am not sure why the game was designed to not save that setting). The previous Nintendo version, Mario Mix for the GameCube, was not quite enough to curb the appetite for most Dance Dance Revolution fans with it’s limited song selection, so this game delivers much better in that respect. As a fan of the franchise, I hope this is only a taste of things to come and we will see more robust versions such as this one in the future.

With its ability to attract new gamers, the Wii is a perfect home for Hottest Party, which may be the most mainstream-friendly series entry in years. Fanatics may find more to like in DDR Supernova 2 for PlayStation 2, but there's no shame in showing up late to this bash.

While this game could have been better with a deeper campaign mode and more features, it is still an amusing party game. It really depends on the audience. DDR fans and teens are the ones who will get the most enjoyment from this game. It would also be a hit at any large family gathering. We’re looking forward to taking it to Thanksgiving dinner and watching all the relatives play.

So at the price of $70 (plus an additional $20 or so for another mat), is DDR worth the pricey plunge on Wii? If you're dying to keep up your dancing experience, or want a fun exercise game with tons of co-op potential, by all means check it out. The addition of helpful tutorials, party-based mini-games and items, and a more casual-centered track listing makes it a perfect package for newcomers. If, however, you were looking for a true DDR experience, you won't find it just yet on Wii, as Hottest Party lacks the modes, online, and polish of its console counterparts. Motion was a nice first step, but we can' t help but feeling that Hottest Party was dumbed down a bit too much.

Diehard GameFan (6.5 out of 10)

Don’t let the “low” score fool you, Hottest Party is an enjoyable purchase. The music certainly wasn’t to my liking compared to previous games, but then I’m not the target audience. I’m a casual (rare) Bemani gamer and I’m no expert on the genre. What I’ve found in reviewing this game is that it is a fun but flawed first attempt for the the DDR series on the WII. Let’s hope the second has a bit more depth. Not to Konami since you love my name so much, GWAR, Sisters of Mercy, or the hidden remix song on the PSX version of Symphony of the Night would rock. Oh, and bring back “Burning Heat” for those of us who still play Gradius games.

Even by simply adding a little waggle to the dancepad, DDR: Hottest Party could have been a great game. Unfortunately, thanks to the god-awful setlist and generally poor presentation, it makes us want to take our dancing shoes elsewhere.

Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party could stand to be a lot hotter, and a lot cheaper. For 70 dollars you get the disc and the dance mat, but you need to shell out at least 20 more dollars for a second mat if you want to go head-to-head with friends. If you're dying for some DDR on your Wii, this game will certainly deliver. And if somehow you have four Wii dance mats at your disposal, it can be a heck of a party game. But you already know all this, because this is the same game you've been dancing to for years.

Worth Playing (5.5 out of 10)

Ultimately, Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party for the Wii has ended up erasing about four years of progress within the genre. The improvements have been replaced with unnecessary and annoying gimmicks galore, which only make it look that much worse when compared to the latest rhythm offerings, Guitar Hero III and Rock Band. I would go as far as to say that Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, with its utter abomination of a cover of "Only a Lad," has a better soundtrack, more enjoyable gameplay and is a better value than this iteration of the rhythm genre's longtime flagship series. Avoid this, and look at the PlayStation 2's DDR Supernova (not PS3 compatible!), Xbox 360's DDR Universe or hell, the GameCube's DDR Mario Mix, which was at least entertaining.

Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party is a mildly fun DDR game with Wii-mote functionality thrown into the mix. Unfortunately, it just feels so standard. If you're a huge DDR buff, you might like this one, but everyone else can skip it. That said, we'd be perplexed to hear somebody spent $70 on this game and didn't at least slightly regret it. It's just not worth it.
