Das Zusammenspiel von Rad und Rakete ist Spaßgarant Nummer 1 - wie in „WipEout“. Hinzu kommen die sehr schnelle und vor allem faszinierend schicke Optik, das gute Streckendesign und eine Vielzahl an unterschiedlichen Flitzern. Der Sound schafft es leider nicht bis in die Oberliga, und auch die optische Abwechslung läßt etwas zu wünschen übrig (nur vier Basiskurse). Zudem mußt Du Dich einige Stunden warmspielen: Die hochgefährlichen Abgründe neben der Strecke, in die nur Du kullerst und niemals die Gegner, nerven gehörig. Hast Du sie aber akzeptiert, klebst Du plötzlich am Asphalt und hast ganz viel Spaß.

Overall DethKarz is probably the best arcade racer on the PC right now. Nothing can even come close for pure visuals, and control and gameplay which is addictive only adds to this amazing game. I think anyone who likes racing games or arcade style gameplay would love DethKarz, and it is easy to get into. The reward based gameplay system keeps the player coming back, while the enemy AI is just hard enough to tick you off and keep you coming back to blow them up some more. The only problem with this game would have to be the terrible multiplayer. I tried numerous setups for TCP/IP multiplayer and all of them were terribly lagged.

Dethkarz heeft naar mijn mening WipeOut naar de achtergrond verdrongen en dat is maar goed ook, want we moesten al te lang teren op dit spel. Dethkarz kan weleens dé race-kraker van 1999 worden.

Overall DethKarz offers gamers a broader spectrum of the combat racing genre. It also takes complete full advantage of 3dfx which is what every gamer craves in new games. In concluding this review I would like to say that it has been a pleasure reviewing a game of this stature and I really think it is a game all combat racing fans need to have on there PC this fall or Christmas, and at any moment be ready to leave reality and join the thrilling ride that DethKarz will take you on.

Mais Dethkarz reste un excellent jeu d'arcade, extrèmement fun et jouable. La maniabilité demande un court temps d'adaptation, mais c'est précisément ce relatif réalisme qui donne tout son piment aux courses! Un jeu qui vous fera passer de très bons moments!

Igra je već postigla dobar uspjeh u svijetu, što se može zaključiti i po najavama Melbourne Housea koji kažu da već rade i nastavak, Dethkarz 2, koji bi trebao donijeti malo više živosti i aktivnosti van staze, tj. naćete stalno padati u provaliju kao sada. Do tada, zabavite se izazovima što vam ih pruža prvi dio.

Power Play (85 out of 100)

Was zuerst nach einem grafisch aufgebohrten Renntitel ohne Tiefgang aussieht, entpuppt sich recht schnell als echte Herausforderung. Alles, was ich von einem kurzweiligen, aber hochmotivierenden Arcade-Rennspiel erwarte, bekomme ich in Dethkarz geboten. Die Gegner sind nicht zu happig und nicht zu leicht, die Kurse abwechslungsreich gestaltet und die verschiedenen Fahrzeuge verhalten sich wirklich unterschiedlich. Die zahlreichen Power-Ups und der ständige Blick auf die eigene Energieleiste würzen das an sich schon schweißtreibende Renngeschehen. Als Dreinabe gibt’s noch die flüssige, wunderschöne Grafik mit grandiosen Licht- und Explosionseffekten und eine anstachelnde Sounduntermalung. Die geschickte Benutzerführung, die sehenswerte Replayfunktion und der durchdachte Ghostmodus im Time-Trial-Modus runden den tollen Gesamteindruck ab. So richtig Spaß macht's dann natürlich erst recht im Multiplayermodus, wenn man seinen Kumpels gehörig eine auf den Pelz brennen kann.

Detkarz is snel, genadeloos en vooral... verslavend. Je moet echt een gloeiende hekel aan racespelletjes hebben om niet gecharmeerd te zijn door de mooie graphics en de prachtige parcoursen. Alleen jammer dat er maar vier wagens zijn, voor de rest is dit spel gewoon af.

My only real complaint with this game is that there aren't enough tracks. As fun as DethKarz is, it simply does not have the sort of depth that makes games like Need For Speed 3 infinitely playable. In some ways, this makes DethKarz rather similar to UltimateRace Pro, a very fine racing game that was seriously flawed in having only 4 tracks. Overall, this is a very nice, but unfortunately brief, game. If you have a high end system, I'd say definitely go for DethKarz, but everyone else should think about it a little longer. A bit of advice for those who do buy this little puppy: revel in the speed, and RESIST THE ENGLISH TEACHERS!

Das Programm setzt neben imposanter Grafik ganz auf Action ohne überflüssige Schnörkel: Ein ausgereiftes Waffensystem, das anfangs eher schlicht wirkt, aber mit der Zeit taktische Tiefe aufkommen läßt. Und eine Fahrphysik, die zwar nichts mit der Realität zu tun hat, aber so manch waghalsiges Kunststück ermöglicht. Besonders haben es mir die Pisten angetan. Ob Berg und Tal oder Haarnadelkurve: Bei jeder sind andere Manöver am Lenkrad gefragt. Allerdings hätte ich mir mehr Abwechslung gewünscht, an den gerade mal vier verschiedenen Streckentypen hat man sich schnell sattgesehen. Neben der etwas monotonen Hintergrundmusik stört mich ansonsten nur eines: Warum haben die Entwickler dem Standardlaser kein Dauerfeuer spendiert?

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault) ( )

I have not had this much fun with a racing game for quite some time. When I go to my computer and just want a peaceful test of driving skill, I will play Motorhead or Need for Speed III; but when I have some aggression I need to take out behind the wheel, nothing comes close to Dethkarz for giving me the ultimate rush. It is not just the luscious eye candy that keeps me coming back; rather it is the superb integration of exciting gameplay components that has gotten me completely and utterly hooked. For someone with my uncontrollable arcade racing addiction, this is a five-star experience, but in my rating here I must come down to earth and rationally evaluate it for the gaming public at large. I understand a sequel is in the works, and you better believe that I will be the very first in line to get my hands on that one.

Für Deathkarz spricht die seltene Mischung aus Rennen und gezielten Schüssen auf lästige Konkurrenten. Hinzu kommen die wirklich hervorragende Grafik, die aber nur in der maximalen Auflösung nicht aufpoppt, und die für mich auch per Tastatur tadellos zu beherrschenden Fahrzeuge.

Dethkarz jest jedną z niewielu gier, które szybko się nie nudzą. Bolidy mknące po torze z prędkością trzystu kilometrów na godzinę, to właśnie t, co prawdziwe tygrysy lubią najbardziej.

Bei rassigen Arcaderennen gebe ich immer gerne Gas, und Dethkarz ist der bisher rasanteste Genrevertreter am PC: Tempo satt, ordentliche Präsentation, pfiffige Schlitter-Steuerung und motivierende, aber nicht übermächtige Computergegner. Schade bloß, daß Motoren, Waffen, Explosionen und Techno-Tracks nicht ganz so kernig klingen, wie sie sollten. Und wenn sich zwölf Pisten vier optisch eher ähnliche Grafiksets teilen müssen, bleibt die Vielfalt auf der Strecke. Beim nächsten Mal etwas mehr Abwechslung fürs Auge, bitte!

Noch akzeptable Grafik, gute Spielbarkeit und rasanter Rennspaß mit allen erdenklichen Extras sind die großen Vorzüge von Dethkarz. Im Mehrspieler-Modus ist stundenlanger Spielspaß garantiert. Alleine gegen den Computer ist es frustrierend, denn die Speicher-Möglichkeiten sind zu eingeschränkt und der Schwierigkeitsgrad selbst unter leichter Einstellung zu hoch. Das absolute Gegenteil einer Rennsimulation, pure Action steht im Vordergrund.

Für das kurze Rennen in der Mittagspause ist Dethkarz das optimale Spiel. Innerhalb von wenigen Minuten kann man ganze Rennen absolvieren und sich mal so richtig abreagieren. Wer sich länger mit dem Spiel beschäftigen will, wird aber schnell abwechslungsreichere Strecken und Rennmodi vermissen. Das Fahrmodell, das sogar Balance-Akte auf zwei Rädern gestattet, wäre in einem „ernsthaften“ Rennspiel des Kalibers Need for Speed oder NICE 2 besser aufgehoben gewesen. Mit etwas schöneren Strecken hätte aus Dethkarz deutlich mehr werden können.

Except for the laser guns and power-ups, Dethkarz is just like all the other arcade racers that have been released recently. It's a decent racing game, but it's not as good as Need for Speed 3, Test Drive 5, or [email protected] Race Pro. In the end, Dethkarz just comes across as too generic and bland ... a beauty with no brains.

Like its predecessors, Dethkarz features a generic techno soundtrack. In fact, there's very little that Dethkarz does that hasn't been done before and better. There are a good selection of vehicles and some interesting power-ups, but these are balanced out by the limited track selection and generally basic gameplay. This game's recommended only for those who simply can't get enough high-speed racing on the highways of the future, no matter how generic.
