Nach drei Teilen ist es zugegebenermaßen etwas schwierig, für einen vierten Teil genügend Kaufargumente zu finden. Nach diversen, von Fans kritisierten Abirrungen der Vorgänger kehrt Devil May Cry 4 spielerisch wieder zu den Wurzeln zurück, die den Erstling so beliebt gemacht haben: furiose Action, abfeuerbar für jedermann ohne Gamepadologie studiert haben zu müssen, und das ganze garniert mit einem frischen Helden, quasi als Dreingabe. Mit dem Devil Bringer als spielrelevante Neuerung zeigt sich der Wert ordentlicher Handarbeit, besonders die riesigen Bossmonster sollten den starken Händedruck des Spielers fürchten. Durch die vielen Zusatzoptionen und konstante Aufrüstbarkeit des eigenen Spielstils ist für stundenlange Herausforderung gesorgt, ein großes Paket hat Capcom da geschnürt. Devil May Cry 4 ist ein Vorzeigespiel für das Actiongenre geworden und nur bedingt vergleichbar mit der weniger guten PC-Umsetzung von Teil 3. Selten haben wir eine solch dynamische, actionreiche, imposante und gleichzeitig ausgereifte Inszenierung erlebt. Die Story hätte kaum besser erzählt werden können, was natürlich sehr an den wirklich gut gemachten Zwischensequenzen liegt. Liebe, Dramatik, Gewalt, Verwirrung und Humor - DMC hat ein bisschen was von einem Überraschungs-Ei bester Güte. Darüber hinaus begeistern die schicken Animationen, irrwitzigen Effekte und die geballte Soundkulisse immer wieder aufs Neue. Mängel wie zum Beispiel die schwache K.I., störrische Kameraführung und das zur Mitte ausgelutschte Leveldesign können angesichts der oben genannten Punkte ruhig zur Seite geschoben werden.

Overall, the magic is back, and the new hero doesn't detract from things in the slightest.Devil May Cry 4 is a great capstone to the trilogy, and the PC port takes exceptional advantage of the graphical potential of many gamers' PCs, while leaving the top-notch console gameplay untouched. It's unfortunate that the game doesn't appear to have sold so well because the PC version easily one-ups the console iterations if your PC can handle it, and it doesn't necessarily have to be extremely top-notch. Notice that all of the screenshots here were taken on DirectX 9, and realize that Capcom did an incredible job, one that deserves the attention of more gamers.

Nach der exzellenten Lost Planet-Umsetzung beweist Capcom mit Devil May Cry 4 eindrucksvoll, dass marode Konvertierungen à la Resident Evil 4 der Vergangenheit angehören. Die visuellen Unterschiede zwischen den DX10- und DX9-Varianten sind im Gegensatz zu Lost Planet zwar nur marginal, dafür jedoch sind die Ladezeiten unter DX10 deutlich angenehmer. Wer einen Rechner innerhalb der Konfigurationsgrenzen mit P4, 512 MB RAM und z.B. GeForce 6600 besitzt –natürlich gilt: je mehr, je besser-, kann sich auf ein dramatisches, forderndes und packendes Action-Vergnügen freuen, das sogar noch einen zusätzlichen Modus verpasst bekommen hat. Dass es Capcom auch in der PC-Version nicht geschafft hat, die Kameraprobleme sowie die gelegentlich ungenau übersetzten Untertitel in den Griff zu bekommen, ist bedauerlich, aber für den Unterhaltungswert unerheblich. Dante und Nero zeigen sich am Monitor als ebenso stylisch und imposant wie auf den Konsolen. Glückwunsch, Capcom!

There’s a lot about Devil May Cry 4 that could use improvement, but the game’s combat practically lessens the impact of such deficiencies.

Devil May Cry 4 is a definite shoe-in for intense and enjoyable action. For fans of the previous game, definitely pick it up and for those who have never experienced the series, then by all means snag the greatest installment. The only thing that sucks about this game for the PC crowd is that you need a 360 controller to adequately play it. For someone with a short amount of money to burn, shelling out $80-90 for a game and controller doesn’t sound like a great idea. My advice is to weigh your options, do a little research and play the demo. Or just buy the game and bum a controller from one of your friends, which works too.

Darüber hinaus ist es schade, dass Capcom nicht noch mehr Energie in die PC-Adaption investiert hat: Eine leicht verbesserte Technik und zwei im Grunde unnötige Zuatzmodi sorgen sicher nicht dafür, dass Besitzer der PS3- oder X360-Fassung nochmals zugreifen. Capcom hätte besser noch mehr an der Steuerung auf PC gefeilt. Wen dieses Manko nicht stört, der bekommt mit ’Devil may Cry 4’ aber ein in puncto Fight-Spektakel so richtig befriedigendes Actionepos alter Schule geboten, das bis zum monumentalen Endkampf bestens unterhält.

Was am Ende bleibt, ist ein Wechselbad der Gefühle - man findet sich selbst „himmelhoch jauchzend und zu Tode betrübt“ wieder. Auf der einen Seite eine schöne Geschichte, erzählt in hervorragenden, stimmungsvollen Zwischensequenzen, tolle Action und beeindruckende Bossgegner. Auf der anderen Seite das offenkundige Recyceln der Levels, Gegner und Musikstücke, die hin und wieder etwas unglückliche Kameraführung und natürlich die fehlende Abwechslung. Fest steht: Devil May Cry 4 ist keineswegs der neue Genre-König. Falls Sie aber auf unkomplizierte Action, atmosphärische Zwischensequenzen und eine schön erzählte Geschichte stehen, dürfen Sie sich Devil May Cry 4 ohne zu zögern kaufen.

Ich mag Devil May Cry 4. Wegen seiner ultracoolen Helden. Wie Nero und Dante mit ihren Gegnern umgehen und stets einen lockeren Spruch auf den Lippen haben, bringt mich immer wieder zum Grinsen - und hebt das Spiel angenehm vom ernsten Action-Einerlei ab. Auch sonst macht die Dämonenhatz vieles richtig. Vor allem das variantenreiche Kampfsystem hat es mir angetan. Dass das Spiel gefühlt eher auf den Konsolen zu Hause ist, kann ich angesichts der gelungenen Portierung getrost verschmerzen.

The PC version doesn't support online leaderboards, but it includes two excellent additions: Legendary Dark Knight mode and turbo speed. LDK mode fills the screen with insane numbers of demons at a time and delivers plenty of excitement without becoming unfairly difficult. You can turn on turbo speed before heading into a mission, which hastens the tempo and makes for a great thumb workout. All told, Devil May Cry 4 is a great game, and it delivers a lot of quality action that will please fans without alienating those new to the series. If you liked previous entries, you'll find what you're looking for here; and if you were turned off by Devil May Cry 3's insane challenge, then you'll feel a lot more comfortable this time around.

So are you going to enjoy Devil May Cry 4? Hardcore actions junkies aren't going to care as much about the wrap-around level progression and repetitive encounters as they'll likely be busy replaying stages for the highest ratings. They're going to love the punishing Legendary Dark Knight mode on Turbo and power through the wonky platforming and puzzle sections. If you're one of those who are just looking for a one-shot action experience, though, you'll probably be more affected by these kinds of flaws. Regardless of how much weight you put on each category, the action gameplay is accessible and possesses quite a bit of depth if you're willing to put in the time. The higher-resolution graphics on the PC shine and flow smoothly, and the fact that a gamepad is the best way to go shouldn't turn you off. This type of game couldn't really work any other way. So while it's not without flaws, it's still one of the better pure action experiences on the platform.

So, DMC4 is a good port of an excellent game. While slightly linear, obviously console-led, and a little repetitive, if you suspend your disbelief and let the game take you on a ride, you’ll find your pulse pounding like a kettle drum. Any game that brings out an involuntary air-punching “YEAH!” into the middle of a quiet day at the office has to be doing something very right. Devil May Cry 4 comes highly recommended to anybody who wants to play an action game and not some namby-pamby talkathon. Yeah, RPGs. Feel the burn.

Ich steh auf diese übertrieben coolen Helden, die vollkommen absurd akrobatische Aktionen abziehen und dabei noch lässig in die Kamera grinsen. Deswegen haben Nero und Dante direkt einen Platz in meinem Spielerherzen. Cooler geht es wirklich nicht mehr. Die Sequenzen, mit denen die Entwickler ihre Helden in Szene setzen, fand ich schlicht grandios. Beim Rest hapert es dagegen leider ein wenig. Warum muss ich jeden Level doppelt, die Endbosse sogar dreifach abarbeiten? Da hätte Devil May Cry 4 ruhig kürzer, dafür intensiver sein können. Manche Rätsel sind außerdem schon fast unverschämt fies, hilfreiche Tipps fehlen. Und so verbrachte ich einige Zeit mit Suchen und Fluchen anstatt mit Hüpfen und Hauen. Das kostet Wertungspunkte. Wer Bock auf Monsterklopfen hat, sollte trotzdem zugreifen.

Prächtig, atemberaubend, spektakulär: Solche Kampfszenen bekommt man nicht mal im Kino geboten. Pfeilschnell und scheinbar schwerelos tanzt der Dämonenjäger um seine übermächtigen Gegner herum, die allesamt dem Albtraum eines durchgeknallten Genies entsprungen zu sein scheinen. Nur sehr selten bewirkt die effektgeladene Präsentation Probleme mit der Übersicht und der Steuerung. Der grandiosen Atmospähre schadet dieses Manko keinesfalls. Nur hätte die teuflische Action gut ein paar zusätzliche Rätsel vertragen, weiß aber auch so verdammt "gut" zu unterhalten.

In the end, Devil May Cry 4 is everything a veteran of the series has come to expect. It is full of fast-paced, combo-heavy, sword-slashing gameplay and has many familiar faces of the previous titles. Its story, while not being complicated or particularly mysterious, remains fun and interesting enough to see you through to the end, which is saying something because it isn't what many would consider to be a short game. What Capcom has produced isn't the pinnacle of console-to-PC quality, but it isn't anything to be laughed at either. And, while there is a lesson to be learned from ignoring one of the most-used PC peripherals of all-time, Devil May Cry 4 is definitely what a video game should be, fun.

Good looks and dumb fun will only get you so far. Capcom has always clung to archaic game engines way past their sell-by date, and cranked the sequel handle a little too quickly, reusing tired elements until the cries of derision become too loud. This bout of monster mashing is still fun, yes, but Devil May Cry has now reached the point where it desperately needs to evolve into the 21st century as with Resident Evil 4, or fade from the spotlight like Dino Crisis.

DMC4 is technically solid, and those who enjoy action games (and don't mind repetitiveness -- you face some of the bosses three times!) should give it a whirl. But its lack of enticing PC features leaves me wondering if Capcom sees the PC as either a worthy platform or just a place for well-playing but otherwise ho-hum ports.
