If you want a rock-solid multi-player game that will keep you and your friends entertained from here to eternity, or you want to relive the glory days of gaming, or you just want to vent your frustration on a neverending stream of bad guys, Gauntlet Legends is the game for you. The Dreamcast version, with its gorgeous graphics and arcade style, is as close to gaming perfection as the genre's ever gotten. Even with the quirks of the camera, you absolutely can't go wrong with this title.

This game came out of nowhere, literally. I didn't see a lot of ads for it - any commercials or anything of the sort - but once I played it I was hooked -- no, addicted! It is too bad that this game did not become as popular as it should have, because it is probably one of the best n64 games I have ever played, and undoubtedly the best cooperative n64 game on the market.

Gauntlet Legends is a must-have for fans of multiplayer games. My friend George and I once played this one for seven hours straight, and probably would have continued if it wasn't 3AM.

Alas, one of the most renowned four player games of yesteryear has been reduced to a two player game. Most think this is a very bad thing. I reserve judgement. As I recall, there was always someone getting trapped behind a wall or such in the original Gauntlet, stopping progression. It's kinda hard to keep everyone moving in the same direction at the same rate. At least with only two players, this is less of a problem. Plus, when you consider the fact that the PlayStation has only two gameports built in, it's hard to decide to support an 'add-on' that not everyone has.

Gauntlet Legends is pure arcade gaming at its very best. Even though many will condemn this title as a mindless shooter, there is just something about this series that is pure "fun". Perhaps it is the fact that almost anyone can pick up the controller and start having a blast with no steep learning curve. The game itself promotes multiplayer action and teamwork in a party-like atmosphere.

Fast, furious, and all together entertaining, Gauntlet Legends is one of the best mindless action quests to come along in a quite some time. For those of you in search of power, fortune, and challenge (it gets absolutely insane on the hardest difficulty setting) GL can't (and won't) steer you wrong.

Gauntlet fans will love Gauntlet Legends on the DC. The port is faithful down to the booming announcer that reminds you to avoid dangerous objects. Everything looks and sounds great, plus the mutiplayer experience can't be touched.

It looks like Gauntlet Legends does a wonderful job of recreating the arcade game, but like most arcade ports it lacks some replay value. It is a great game to play, but it feels too arcade-ish to justify a purchase. However, I highly recommend it as a rental; that way you can beat the game and get your fill of the simple gameplay, then return it. If you are a hardcore Gauntlet series fan or want it as a party game, then I say go buy the game. Adding more players greatly magnifies the fun factor. The game is also glitch-free, but then again almost all console games are glitch-free. If you havenât done so, head down to Blockbuster or Hollywood Videos to try this game out. Heck, you might even like it enough to buy the game.

Gauntlet Legends is a wonderful game for fans of the original and newbies alike. This game is so packed full of gorgeous levels and medieval fighting that it's a joy for one player, and the fact that four characters can play together just solidifies its status as a classic reborn. Simplistic graphics aside, the action is exciting enough to draw you in and keep you there.

The bottom line is that fans of both the arcade Gauntlet Legends as well as the original classic will find themselves at home with this one. Therefore, your opinion of it probably won't differ much from what you thought of the original or last year's update. To the mainstream gamer, Gauntlet Legends may appear as nothing more than a nichy, multiplayer hack-fest. In my view, however, it's a terrific addition to anyone's home videogame library in lieu of all of the generic, me-too racing games, platformers and sports titles that are on store shelves. This game is perfect for both those who dig cooperative adventure games and classic Gauntlet fans alike. If you're a loner, I guess there's always "Mediocre Racing Game 64" for you.

Alleine machts deutlich weniger Spass.

With all that said, despite needing to appeal to two groups of audiences, Legends is still able to stand on its own. Coin-ops need to be easily approachable and need to produce an immediate satisfaction while home games need to have lengthy play-life with a long-term sense of growth and development. Legends manages to be a good (but not great) example of both of these styles of gameplay and have melded them successfully into a neat hybrid. Legends not only reminded me of my coin-op-filled youth growing up in Jackson Heights, but also serves as a very pleasant surprise in the present.

This game may end up being nothing more than a nice niche title that would make a nice addition to the library of a sports or shoot-em-up fan. The multiplayer game is great and a nice way to have some kinder, gentler fun with some friends instead of bashing them as usual. If you're decidedly not into co op adventure games and hate the Gauntlet series and everything to do with it then you should avoid this game like a bill collector. Because the N64 version is so close to the arcade machine version it's hard for this game to stand alone under scrutiny. This is a very accurate translation of an arcade game to a console and that's a nice accomplishment but how much you'll like it depends on what you thought about it in the arcades. I for one think it's worth a rent first but don't pick it up if you don't like multiplayer co-op games or have no friends.

Gauntlet Legends is enjoyed best as a multi-player experience. It does a good job of recapturing that old feeling of the early Gauntlet titles -- in some ways TOO good of a job. Anyone looking for a simple multi-player co-operative title should take a look at Gauntlet Legends. While the bosses can be tough and there is no shortage of enemies it makes for a solid co-operative experience. Those hoping for a good single-player title will be disappointed with Legends, however.

Determining the overall worth of Gauntlet Legends was somewhat challenging in the end, as although itâs equal parts frantic and fascinating, the game is also repetitive and frustrating in said amounts. Nostalgia buffs looking to reacquaint themselves with the Gauntlet series are sure to find this offering to be an excellent addition to their collection, but the general public is liable to label the title as slightly above average at best. Thanks mainly to a wonderful multiplayer mode and the few hours or so of initial enjoyment youâre guaranteed to have with the single player mode, Gauntlet Legends clocks in just ahead of the rest of the action-oriented Nintendo 64 offerings out there. Put simply, while this one may not be the stuff of legend, thereâs no denying itâs still Gauntlet.

If you're looking for a good single-player adventure you will be extremely disappointed with this game. It doesn't offer much in terms of replay value, but the real problem is that you're not really compelled to finish it yourself the first time. However, if you want to add another title to your party game library, Gauntlet Legends is a fine choice. It offers a unique and enjoyable experience that's best realize by three or four players. Spectators are optional.

Gauntlet Legends was a game that was all right in the arcade, and in console form it still maintains that aura of faint praise. Gauntlet Legends is the gaming equivalent of having a pet hamster. It's not very complex and it doesn't really do very much, but if you let it do its thing, it can be pretty entertaining for 15 minutes or so, A synthesis of the arcade game and its sequel, Dark Legacy (only with poorer graphics), this Gauntlet offers few surprises.

Even in four-player it's boring before the end of the first level. The zoomed-in isometric 3D viewpoint gets you lost because you can't see where you're going, and the player movement is overly slow. Not even the reappearance of Gauntlet ĂŒber-baddie Death can save this. And that soul-shaking racket he used to make whilst sucking your life away is gone. Gauntlet fans grieve with us.

A game that is too easy and one-dimensional to be worthy of the Gauntlet name
The Good
It was fun playing around with the various spell effects and the power ups.
The Bad
The enemies were repetitive, the level design very ordinary for a fantasy game, the bosses were easily killed, and most of all, it is not nearly as much fun as the previous Gauntlet games.
The Bottom Line
Gauntlet Legends is an easy, boring, and repetitive game with mediocre level design and terrible monster AI.
