Overall I think THQ has done a great job and created by far the best wrestling game to date on any platform. The number of different options and the amount of characters and moves that are in this game just blows away any competition it ever had in the first place, in concluding I would like to say that it has been a pleasure reviewing such an excellent game and I can't wait to try THQ's next wrestling invention.

Game industry News (GiN) (4.5 out of 5)

Well, that's the inside scoop on this year's knockout wrestling title for the Nintendo 64. Revenge is a "must by" game for any wrestling fan. You'll be on the edge of your seat from the time your wrestler makes their first pay-per-view entrance. If you've got "WCW/NWO World Tour", trade it in and get Revenge! You won't be disappointed! This one gets 41/2 out of 5 GiN gems.

This is a damn good wrestling game. Even if you are not a fan of wrestling, you should still enjoy it. There are plenty of wrestlers to choose from, and the real-life arenas are a great touch. Unfortunately for Revenge, I would give the nod to War Zone because of the create feature alone. The gameplay is very comparable, yet very different. If you are a starving N64 owner like most, you will do just fine owning both games.

Total! (Germany) (1.75 out of 6)

Game Revolution (B+)

Revenge is a simpler game than War Zone. When I won my first title belt, I did nothing but mash buttons as fast as I could and hoped for the best. Trying the same tactic on War Zone will only succeed in getting you booed out of the ring. The better of the two games really depends on the type of gamer you are. If you want to recreate every wrestling event and you also like some serious button-mashing, pick up Revenge. You two are a match made in heaven. However, if you're into a little more finesse and methodical gameplay as well as an all-encompassing experience (top-notch graphics and sound), you can't go wrong with War Zone. As for my personal pick, I'd have to say that Revenge will probably be sitting around my room collecting dust until I get tired of War Zone.

Video Games (82 out of 100)

Power Unlimited (8.2 out of 10)

Nintendo Power Magazine (8.1 out of 10)

Fans will eat this one up. It has instant playability, lots of bells and whistles and all the wrestlers from both federations.THQ tweaked the already-great game play of World Tour and ramped up the atmosphere to the nth degree.

Game Informer Magazine (8 out of 10)

The single-player mode is bare-bones compared to recent games, but multiplayer modes are as much fun as they ever were, especially the Battle Royale match. Graphics that were once pretty may grown hideous with age, but solid gameplay is something that lives forever.

Overall, Revenge is a solid game to own, and there aren't any drawbacks beside the questionable graphics and sound. Back in the day, it was worth at least a rental, and if you're looking for a good WCW game, I'd pick this up. If you don't care about who's wrestling, pick up THQ's one of WWF N64 game, No Mercy.

Even though the game engine is a bit basic, Revenge still offers high replay value. There are numerous belts to pursue with over 60 of your favorite wrestlers. Multiplayer games are an absolute blast. The game supports four players and is Rumble Pak compatible. So much of the fun is based on which wrestlers and divisions you enjoy watching. Because of this, some WWF fans might prefer War Zone. If you are a WCW/NWO fan in the least, you'll definitely enjoy this game.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault) ( )

WCW/NWO Revenge is definitely not for everyone. For your average Joe Gamer, I don’t think I’d recommend it. For pro wrestling fans, however, this game is a dream come true. And for pro wrestling fans who know lots of other gaming pro wrestling fans, I don’t know of any game that I could recommend more highly. So, basically, if you dig this kind of game, WCW/NWO Revenge is as good as it gets. If you think that professional wrestling is nothing more than a bunch of testosterone drenched mongoloids with hyperactive thyroids doing circus tricks for the drooling masses, this game is wonderful evidence to back up your point. If, however, you happen to enjoy seeing a bunch of testosterone drenched mongoloids with hyperactive thyroids doing circus tricks for the drooling masses, (and, come on, who doesn’t?) this game is the perfect fix.

Computer and Video Games (CVG) ( )

The different events, especially the Battle Royale mode, add to the game's longevity and make ...Revenge a worthy multiplayer title. There's only one downfall - the computer opponents are easy to beat with only a few simple moves. Still, if you've got the patience to learn moonsaults and the like, plus a few friends to play against... Revenge is a good game.

Player Reviews

One of the most incredible wrestling games to date.
by Ryan Connely (8)

The Good
WCW/NWO Revenge for the Nintendo 64 possesses what few other wrestling games do. Its easily playable. Each wrestler has a large selection of moves which are easy to figure out with a short amount of play. The playability of the game makes the matches flow smoothly. Wrestlers hit who you tell them to hit and its the player's mistake if it doesn't happen right and not the game's which is not the case in many wrestling games. Each wrestling superstar has enough variation in moves to make matches fun and interesting. With 50+ wrestlers to choose from, this gives this game a long play life. In the hardest difficulty setting, the player will often find himself/herself in 5 star matches which makes it really fun for hardcore wrestling fans.

The Bad
The music is lacking. No wrestlers have unique wrestling themes. They all come out to generic music which has no resemblance to any real WCW theme music. Although having music for 50+ stars would've been a major undertaking and a lot of WCW stars did not have their own theme music, the major stars such as Hollywood Hogan, Kevin Nash, Sting, Goldberg, DDP, and others did. Also there's no real create a superstar mode. There is only the ability to edit existing wrestlers.

The Bottom Line
WCW/NWO Revenge stands as one of my favorite and most played video games of all time. It features a time when professional wrestling was booming which makes the game even more fun. It also preceded the Nintendo 64's other great THQ wrestling game WWF No Mercy.
