Tomb Raider Underworld appears in the book 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die by General Editor Tony Mott.

Eidos felt the game underperformed in sales and laid off 30 employees in January 2009. Later that month, Eidos CFO Robert Brent said a complete remake of the Lara Croft character would be necessary to make it a profitable franchise once again.

The game was sold in approximately 2.5 million copies by April 2009, nearly matching Legend sales and doubling Anniversary sales.

Wii bug

The initial Wii release has an occasional bug that makes it impossible to finish the game. In the Coastal Thailand section of the game, a pole that acts as a lever sometimes refuses to function, making it impossible to progress. To bypass the issue, the developers released some public saves that can be loaded on an SD card to continue playing from past that section.
