The Good
Let tell everyone up front, I received this game as a gift from my father, so I may be a bit partial towards it.
There a lot of things to like about this game. First of all, the interface. It is easy to use and can be learned quickly. This is a definite improvement over other RPG's, which oftentimes have complex interfaces which are difficult to learn and use.
Another plus for this game is the enemies. They are quite a few, and some of them reveal the imagination of the designers of this game. Their are a wide variety of weapons, but the main difference between the weapons is the amount of damage inflicted. Also, you have ability in this game to use "formulas" if you find the correct chemistry volumes. These "formulas" are the equivalent of magic spells and are prepared by using a chemistry set. This unusual feature makes the game rather unique, and the affect's of the "formulas" differ considerably.
The Bad
Don't Go Alone suffers from a few flaws. First of all, it can be repetitive over time, as you do the same thing over and over again. You must find your way through ten mazes, all filled with various monsters. You also must discover ways to solve certain puzzles and overcome obstacles(such as random teleportation). You basically have to find the stairwell on each floor to proceed. Doing the same thing ten times in a row can get a little boring after a while.
Second of all, there is little plot. The one that is given reads something like this; "You're goal is to kill the Ancient One, who drove you're grandfather insane just by looking at him." Not much of a plot there. Also, the Ancient One is a pathetic boss, being quite easy to defeat. Actually, the entire game is too easy, as I was able to complete it in less than a week.
The Bottom Line
If you are looking for fun game to pass a little time, this would be one to play.
