If you want to space out with your 3DO Multiplayer, take a shot behind the controls of the Raven. Stellar 7 is stellar.
Fans of the PC version will be pleasantly surprised by this perspective shooter in the vein of Battlezone. Excellent sounds and graphics (no surprise there) take first chair to the control: It isn't as responsive as it should be.
Entertainment Weekly (Jan 14, 1994)
Although its graphics and sound effects are impressive, Stellar 7 is hampered by a crucial control bug: It's nearly impossible to accelerate your ship and steer it at the same time, making you star chow for the relentless alien hordes.
The Video Game Critic (Nov 08, 2007)
Enemy tanks are pretty tame, but the flying "skimmers" are pain in the ass because you really need to lead your shots to nail those bastards. There are some very nice explosion effects, and crystal clear techno music really helps you get into a groove. The instruction manual recommends that you "keep moving", and that's probably the best advice I've ever heard in my entire life. Otherwise you're a sitting duck. Once your tank is destroyed, you can record your high score to a top-10 ranking chart. Stellar 7: Draxon's Revenge is a little predictable and could use some pizzazz, but it serves its purpose as a slick arcade shooter for the 3DO.
Edge (Jan, 1994)
Your Raven also comes equipped with some impressive weapons, but they don’t seem to be integral to the game. For example, the jump facility looks quite impressive when used, but there’s no purpose for it: there are no chasms to jump, no holes to avoid, so why did they bother? So much more could have been made of this. A flying section maybe, more land detail, bigger meaner bosses… It’s a shame that the first 3DO software is such a mixed bunch, but sadly Stellar 7 is an easily forgettable experience.
