Returning fans will recognize the style of many of the game's puzzles. Some force you to carefully analyze images, others are tricky riddles, and still others involve clever application of basic math skills -- but each one is different enough from the last that boredom never sets in. Add in yet another engaging story filled with quirky personalities and several seemingly unsolvable grand mysteries, and you have a recipe for a very memorable Professor Layton adventure. Don't miss it.

So is Professor Layton and The Miracle Mask worth checking out? Absolutely! While it might not be a great jumping on point for new players unfamiliar with the story up to this point, its gameplay is as accessible as ever. And it provides enough of a challenge, and puzzle variety, to continue feeling fresh for those of us that have stuck with the series since its inception. Combine the new 3D effect and art style with an intriguing look at Layton’s history, along with a story that manages to propel the series forward, and you’re left with what I believe to be the best in the series so far.

Level-5 has answered its critics once more and delivered a truly splendid puzzle adventure effort for the fifth time in a row. Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask may not take full advantage of the 3D elements of the Nintendo 3DS, but it proves to be yet another stunning mix of intriguing story and brain teasing conundrums, all wrapped up with the usual gorgeous presentation expected from the series. Puzzle fans should not be without this latest masterpiece.

Professor Layton's move to Nintendo 3DS is a hugely successful one, as Miracle Mask is one of the best Layton games to date.

Nintendo Life (Oct 15, 2012)
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask achieves its goal of making a successful franchise transition to 3DS, retaining the charm of its predecessors and making subtle changes to improve the series standards. While solving wonderfully engineered puzzles is the meat of the gaming experience, moments of variety and a few new ideas ensure that the franchise maintains its freshness. Its greatest strength, that takes it from a top-notch puzzle collection to something more, is its story-telling. The broad range of characters, the emotional tone of the storyline and the teasing promise of more makes for an utterly engrossing experience. The question is whether this is worth your money; if you enjoy puzzles and charming tales of adventure, then you should already know the answer.

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is the first game in the series to break any real new ground, even adding in some light action sequences. While some changes, like the occasionally awkward 3D, are not great, the improved puzzle variety and sheer volume more than make up for them. It remains a perfect game for a mobile platform – something that can be quickly picked up and enjoyed for either a short or long stretch of time. It’s still the best game of its kind, and something that will keep puzzle fans happy for a very long time.

IGN (Oct 26, 2012)
For anyone who’s played a Layton game in the past, this is very much the same deal - and considering the professor’s offerings are among portable gaming’s best, that’s certainly a compliment. Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask offers a gorgeous visual presentation, an intriguing story and incredible puzzle design - all in one of the most charming gaming worlds out there. The game may take somewhat longer than usual to find its stride, and sliding the stylus simply isn’t as fulfilling as tapping it when it comes to world exploration, but the game’s accomplishments far outweigh these trifling complaints. Puzzle lovers young and old should make it a point to unravel the mysteries of the Miracle Mask.

The Layton series' formulaic approach to gameplay is a double-edged sword – it's still engaging and fun, but at the same time, the premise has begun to show some weathering. Still, the mix of point-and-click adventure and logic puzzles is something that few other games can offer, and Miracle Mask still does it well. For anyone who is deeply invested in the Layton series and jumps at any chance to experience a new Layton game, Miracle Mask is not a game to be missed.

Miracle Mask is an example of a game series improving rather than changing, but to great effect. It retains the familiarity of past games while managing to eliminate the fatigue that can often be associated with a long-running franchise. Despite this game being the second part of the Layton prequel trilogy, it's a perfectly fine jumping-on point for new players too, with only a small amount of required reading needed in order to catch up with things--a sensible decision given the shift to new hardware.

Like all of the other Professor Layton games, it simply comes down to whether or not you enjoy solving puzzles. Fans will enjoy the added life, charm, and depth (yes, I said it) that the 3D redesign brings to the series, but this isn't going to win over any non-Layton lovers. The beauty of it is that no one really wants the series to change. In a gaming world where everyone demands that the next game bring something new and different, it's a little refreshing that a gentleman in a top hat can deliver consistent, quality gaming that pleases despite the fact that it's just what we played before... but now in 3D.

Nawiązywała nawet do wcześniejszych odkryć Laytona.

Throw in a year of downloadable puzzles, one per day starting October 28, and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask will definitely satisfy your demand for quality puzzle gameplay. If anything, it'll inspire you to track down older Layton games on DS. Suffice to say, both first and longtime players are in for a treat.

Not everyone enjoys puzzles, but Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is a treat for those of you who do. The game isn’t packed with conventional action, but it offers plenty to amuse people who prefer a more relaxed take on interactive entertainment. If you’d rather put your brain to the test than your reflexes, and especially if you like a good mystery, I have no trouble recommending that you join Professor Layton and his friends on their latest adventure, even if you’ve never played a previous installment. If you’re like me, you’ll come away from the whole experience with a renewed love for puzzles and an appetite for the next game in the series. When a game offers all of this and still leaves me wanting more, I figure that’s more than sufficient.

NintendoWorldReport (Oct 25, 2012)
If you equate a new Layton release to the promise of fresh puzzles, Miracle Mask should fulfill that desire handily, with a year's worth of downloadable daily puzzles coming on top of those already available. However, the game also takes notable advantage of its new handheld home, using a number of narrative and aesthetic devices to weave its refined style of gameplay and emotional, spiraling story into a tight experience that rewards on all accounts.
