Killzone 2

Killzone 2 is a solid FPS game and while it doesn't exactly break a lot of new ground it's one of the best shooters on the market. I had a lot of fun with the game and never once did I wonder when the game was going to end or feel like the game was dragging. As someone who loves FPS games I can't recommend the game highly enough and I think people are really going to dig the game when it hits shelves later this month. Co-op would have been nice to have but it's hard to hold it against the game that was this much fun.

Because it successfully brings together a compelling single player campaign and fully realized multiplayer experience, Killzone 2 emerges as a new benchmark for the shooter genre. This is a game that leverages an atmospheric presentation and superb game design for something memorable and lasting. To quibble about a lack of cooperative play through the campaign or the omission of some other feature is to miss the point: Killzone 2 is meant to be a carefully laid out epic. It is a must-have game, a brilliant start for the year, and among the best games of this generation.

Killzone 2 successfully iterates upon the formulas and standards of console first-person shooters in ways that make it feel fresh, and it does all that while looking absolutely outstanding. If you're the least bit interested in first-person shooting and you own a PlayStation 3, Killzone 2 should be near the top of your list.

Killzone 2 is an exceptional first-person shooter. It’s not especially innovative but the presentation is unmatched and the gameplay is superbly polished. The online mode alone guarantees that is a game that PS3 owners are going to keep in for months to come. All we need now is a coop mode for Killzone 3 and maybe some sort of plot.

Killzone 2 borrows a lot of its ideas from other game but the key difference is that Killzone 2 cranks the decibels to levels not yet seen in video games. This is the definitive gaming experience of the year so far. This is the total package from top to bottom and worth every single penny you spend on it. In a time when you need to make sure that each dollar counts, a recommendation can't get any higher for this game. Killzone 2 is the new standard for all FPS games.

Expectations on Killzone 2 had reached ridiculous proportions; here's one of those cases where the game actually lived up to them.

This is the sort of game you'll end up playing just like you did when Goldeneye came out and the best thing in the world was a three-day weekend spent sleeping over with your friends, eating Bugles and drinking soda around the Nintendo 64 until the sun came up. Just don't feel too bad when you realize your nostalgia had to replace those friends with a fiancé or simply a couple of cats asleep on your lap. The times may have changed a little, but nobody said we weren't allowed to be satisfied anymore.

For the most part Killzone 2 is utterly, mesmerisingly brilliant and polished to perfection: the gunplay is solid, the controls, once tuned to your liking are superbly weighted and intuitive and the action, when good, is relentless. Time will tell whether or not the single player campaign will be held in as high regard as we’d all want it to be, but right here, right now, this is as good as it gets.

Killzone 2 lives up to every one of its promises, and considering the bar it set for itself in 2005, that's a lot of promises to live up to. Ultimately, we have a game that strikes the perfect balance between a single-player and multiplayer experience. Where almost all current FPS games boast a multiplayer component that is far and away better and more satisfying than the single-player experience, Killzone 2 boasts a single-player campaign that is every bit as much fun as the multiplayer - and that is truly a rarity.

The subject header pretty much sums it up; you need to buy this game immediately once it comes out. Even if you don't own a PS3, buy a copy anyway and wish real hard for the gaming fairies to bring you a new console. When that fails, feel free to steal your friend's unit and then pretend to feel bad when he tells you about how somebody broke into his house, stole his PS3 and kicked his dog. All the while you'll be silently laughing at his misfortune and reminding yourself you only kicked the pooch because he peed on you while you were unhooking the system from the TV. At this point feel free to excuse yourself to go see if the stain ever came out and enjoy some ill-gotten Killzone 2 goodness. He'll understand. After all, this is probably the best game on the PS3 yet.

Combat has always been a strength of killzone though, and here it is too. You’ll encounter areas that will need some well placed nades and tactics to get through, if you can take out 1 enemy with 1 nade, you do it. Enemies know if they have time to escape a grenade, and generally they’re pretty cluey on what you’re up to as well. But don’t be afraid to go on a knife rampage, often it’s the best solution to a tough area.

Killzone 2 is feast right from the start to the end. You will be having large turrets, fighting of gunships and more in the single player campaign. And if the fun ends in the single player , more fun can be found in the online modes. Killzone 2 is a technical feat, right from its well implemented cover system to its level design, everything seems to be well locked down. Its amazing how a sequel can be so good after a disapponting original. Hype was at all time high for this game and at every showing before launch it grew bigger. It’s one of the rare cases where a game actually lives up to the hype. Killzone 2 is a must buy and it only remains to see how Guerilla can better it with Killzone 3.

Worth Playing (9.5 out of 10)

It's been amusing to compare the run-up for Killzone 2 as opposed to the original. While the first game was lauded as a "Halo killer" in some circles, only to crash and burn on arrival, the sequel has been met with measured skepticism, all afraid of heaping praise upon it lest we be burned again. It's clear that Sony and Guerrilla Games wanted to strike back at the naysayers, and they've done it in the best possible way by delivering a game that exceeds all expectations. Granted, there's almost nothing completely original about the title, but who needs new ideas when you can do such a great job improving on the old ones? The bottom line is that Killzone 2 can compete with any other shooter out there on the market, and PS3 owners should definitely be adding this game to their libraries when it hits shelves later this month.

I’ve not had this much fun with a console FPS in a long time, and feel confident in saying that Killzone 2 is probably the best of its kind to come out this generation. While some flaws are evident in the story and a number of design choices, they pale in comparison to the purity of the gunplay and the meaty action that prevails. If you own a PlayStation 3 and want to take advantage of an online game service that you don’t have to pay for, this game is a required purchase. I won’t tell you to believe the hype, because it deserves to be free of such damaging nonsense. With all that being said, Killzone 2 has a lot to going for it. Replay value is enormous with the in-game collections, trophy support, and online stat tracking. I’m not going to say if Killzone 2 is a “Halo Killer,” it’s more of a unique game that doesn’t need to compare itself to that. It has it’s elements that it shares from Call of Duty, Star Wars Battlefront, Resistance, Halo, and so on. I wouldn’t be surprised to see those titles adopt some of Killzone 2’s mechanics for their next installments. I’m just happy Killzone 2 delivered something astounding. In terms of production and scale, this is the new benchmark in first-person shooters to live up to. I look at Killzone 2 as two games hiding under the guise of one. The first offers a decent if intense single player campaign mode utilizing some amazing tech and engine power we can only hope Sony finds a way to propagate to other titles. I say this having put in all my Killzone 2 hours on a 112" 1080p front projection system. While that alone may not be worth your $60, the multiplayer game is where Guerilla Games put forth their strongest creative muscle which alone is worth the price plus a couple twenties on top. Killzone 2 is only a short month away from hitting shelves, but the game will definitely be worth the wait. The single-player experience is a truly enjoyable campaign across the Helghast home world that will test your skills, particularly on the higher difficulty levels, and the game simply looks phenomenal for a console shooter. But perhaps the strongest segment of the game is the extremely deep multiplayer, which gives seven basic classes with which you can create your own customized super-soldier after performing your class-specific duties. Not only did Guerrilla achieve a milestone of delivering a great exclusive title for Sony's PS3, it delivered one of the better shooters to come along in a long time. Get your hands on this game.

There’s much to celebrate in Killzone 2. A solid campaign, an ever-mutating multiplayer and a graphical leap for mankind. It is important however, to understand that underneath the veneer what we have is also very recognizable: this is still a game that includes token ‘red barrels’. For all its guts and glory, for all its taxing, gritty fortitude, Killzone 2 adheres too strictly to the rules of its genre to send itself into the stratosphere. What will stand the test of time is its pitch perfect grasp of said genre, its wonderfully taxing, take-no-prisoners assault on your senses and your trigger finger. It is the ultimate conservative First-Person-Shooter, whether it wants to be or not. And this is why it’s worth your bucks.

For a developer whose previous games have been little more than average, Killzone 2 is a landmark achievement. Guerrilla has pushed the boundaries of what we’ve seen on PlayStation 3 by creating an all-action shooter that’s far closer to the original E3 teaser trailer than we could ever have imagined. It’s not perfect, sure, but it’s arguably the best FPS on PlayStation 3 and one that is, in this reviewer’s opinion at least, superior to Resistance 2. It also hints at what the developer is capable of achieving next time round and, bearing in mind what Epic achieved with Gears 2 over the original, we cannot wait to see what Guerrilla does with the next game in the series. For now, if you own a PS3, Killzone 2 is a must-have. And if you don’t own Sony’s machine, maybe it’s time to bite the bullet to make sure you don’t miss out on what is truly an outstanding game.

If you're a PS3 fanboy and were a little bit jealous because your "Xbot" friends were loving it up with Gears of War 2, don't worry too much. Killzone 2 is every bit as engaging as that title is. In fact, the story and characters are much more interesting and, dare I say, the graphics are even better. However, the lack of co-op features is a substantial misstep; anyone who has gone through Gears 2's Horde mode, blasting away with their buddies can tell you that. All in all, Killzone 2 is an FPS that lives up to the hype and its AAA billing. Look for this game to be the first mega-seller on the PS3, and one that may help shift a few more console units for Sony. This is the kind of exclusive content we've been waiting for!

After almost five years of infamy, the franchise has taken revenge on its critics.

We'll always remember Killzone 2 for its superb visuals and adrenaline-fueled battles. It's far from innovative as other games feature superior narratives and better multiplayer modes, but it's still an edge of your seat and bullet riddled extravaganza that begs to be experienced by anyone with a PS3. Of course, if you don't own Sony's console, now's the time.

Killzone 2 was certainly worth the long wait, the cover-based single player campaign may be a tad short, although it’s certainly memorable and has a smart opposition army to contend with, whilst the multiplayer is up there with the grandness of the likes of Call of Duty and Halo. Overall then, if you’re a shooter fan and have the means to play it, you should do so as quite simply this is one of the best yet.

Killzone 2's been hyped waaaay too much, of course. And, no, it doesn't live up to the hype, because if it did it would be the greatest FPS of all time, which it isn't. But it is the best PS3-exclusive to date. Better even than LittleBigPlanet and Metal Gear Solid 4. Two years into the console's life cycle, the undoubted graphical potential of the machine has been realised - Killzone 2 unleashes the power of the PS3 - nothing on any console comes close. The sheer OMG!-ness of the experience makes Killzone 2 worth buying a PS3 for. And, given how much they cost, that's one hell of a compliment.

The irony here is that whereas Sony introduced the first, deeply disappointing, Killzone whilst in a position of unparalleled dominance (even five years on the PS2 is still a going sales concern), Killzone 2, this strangely beautiful testament to the industry as it stands today arrives at a moment when the Japanese electronics giant has everything to prove within gaming. Countless lauded exclusives have spectacularly flopped since the PS3’s launch and the console’s market share is still less than glowing; there’s a sense that for history to repeat itself twice with another Killzone debacle, given the expectations, the jaw-dropping preview footage and the hordes of illiterate fanboys chomping at the bit, would have been catastrophic. Instead, the end result is nothing short of triumphant.

Guerrilla have defied the claims that they could never reach the visual clarity of that infamous 2005 trailer and they defied claims that gameplay would be lacking. They haven't done anything really 'new', nor have they made a game that redefines the way we play FPS games. They've made a game that sets the benchmark for what level of quality FPS games should aim for, and stands strong against this generations biggest FPS games, proudly presenting itself as a vicious shooter that will grip you by the throat, and won't let go. With superb aesthetics, a hugely polished single player component, and a deep, class based 32 player Multiplayer component, there is no reason why you shouldn't go and pick up Killzone 2.

Palkinnon tästä saamme me kaikki, sillä Killzone 2 on ehdottomasti pelaamisen arvoinen peli. Se on myös muuta. Gra w Killzone 2 to czysta przyjemność.

On the whole we think Killzone 2 has an excellent multiplayer component, but it's sadly let down by its difficult barrier-of-entry. It's not so much the games difficulty online that causes the problems, more its focus on levelling up before letting you do anything. When you first play multiplayer you'll have two guns and well, nothing else. Your opponents will be able to place turrets, revive downed team members and create spawn points. It'll take you 20 hours or more playing the multiplayer before you're even close to unlocking everything. We're all for the game rewarding the hours you spend with it but it feels like too much of an uphill struggle at first.

As far as multiplayer goes it is always hard to tell if it will have the kind of lasting appeal that games like Call of Duty and Halo 3 has had. Although I'm not the kind of player that gets stuck into a multiplayer component and play it for months on out, I can certainly see qualities in the multiplayer of Killzone 2. In short, Killzone 2 has been well worth the wait. Now bring on the inevitable Killzone 3... preferably before Playstation 4 launches.

You'll have to look to the inevitable Killzone 3 to find out if developer Guerilla can dig any diamonds out of this series' rough narrative. Otherwise, Killzone 2 is an exceptional first-person shooter, not because it does anything particularly new, but because it does everything extraordinarily well. There's certainly no doubting its graphical superiority, but though its moody visuals invite incessant superlatives, it's the tight, electric action that will make this an off- and online haven.

Killzone 2 is far from perfect, and can be downright annoying at times, but it also delivers a great experience. After beating the game – right at 8 hours on the default difficulty – I went back and played some levels on a harder difficulty and found myself still having a blast, especially after having gotten more acclimated to the fussy controls. With each objective being replayable from the menu screen, I was able to enjoy memorable moments. While the third act really brings the single-player campaign to a head, the multiplayer delivers throughout. If you have broadband and even the slightest interest in first-person shooters, then Killzone 2 is a must. The controls are stiff and can break your heart, but stick with it, because the warzone mode is pure magic and will provide the kind of longevity that makes this a PlayStation 3 essential.

Killzone 2 is going to sate PS3 owners, but it's not a massive leap forward in gameplay or advancing the FPS genre. It does, however, stand as a stunning testament to the raw power of the PS3 and will offer anyone looking for some exclusive Sony love hours and hours of enjoyment. Unfortunately for me, the lack of comfort in the control department and realisation of elements such as full usage of your AI teammates, et al left me wanting more from the game beyond its incredible gloss. There's a stellar action game here, and it'll keep you on your toes for awhile, I'd just like to see more done with franchise in the future.

The end result here is a bit of mixed bag. What Killzone 2 does well, it does very well. It is pure eye candy with a silky smooth frame rate and graphics that truly push the PS3 boundaries, and combat that is overall enjoyable and varied enough to keep you interested. However, those of you concerned with innovative game play and original storylines need not apply. Multiplayer is the deal breaker here. If you’ve ventured onto Playstation Network and are in search of the next big online shooter then Killzone 2 is made for you. It will bring a smile to your face and may take over you life. Go and buy it now. If the single player is all you are interested in, then your mileage may vary. Give it a rent before you buy.

So is Killzone 2 the vaunted killer app that PlayStation fans have been desperately craving? Mostly. It’s certainly a step in the right direction that was started with Resistance: Fall of Man. It’s not the best shooter ever made, but it comes very close to living up to the unfair levels of hype heaped upon it over the years. With a solid campaign, addictive multiplayer, and some of the greatest presentation ever seen in a video game, Killzone 2 is well worth your time and money. Just don’t expect any sort of meaningful revolution of well established shooter conventions.

Killzone 2 is a tale of two cities. There's the campaign, which is a fine but forgettable jaunt through a series of FPS clichés. And then there's the multiplayer, which is a slick, addictive experience that's not to be missed. In the end it just depends on what you're looking for.

Killzone 2 is a tremendously solid game. It doesn’t re-invent the wheel, but Hell; round ones work just fine anyway. Guerrilla Games have actually lived up to the massive potential and delivered one of the best FPSs of the last couple of years, which can happily sit next to and perfectly compliment Resistance 2 in any PS3 owner’s collection. It’s not perfect and there are a few things which could do with a bit more care for the next game - largely the lack of co-op and fairly dull story and characters - but nonetheless, this is one of the most beautiful, explosive and entertaining shooters of the console generation so far. Bring on Killzone 3.

Sadly, Killzone 2 isn't the killer exclusive that PS3 owners were hoping for but it tries so hard to be. At times you catch glimpses of the potential and it really has some excellent moments and set pieces. Unfortunately the single player is let down too often with frustrations and it isn't as accessible as it thinks it is. However, long term replay value from multiplayer is certainly an incentive and those visuals are something to at least see on a widescreen television if only to justify your purchase of a PS3. Killzone 2 is certainly the start of a next-generation franchise. Here's hoping whatever sequel follows adds more substance than style.
