Description official descriptions

Based on the movie of the same name, Space Chimps features Ham III, grandson of the first chimp astronaut, sent into space to fight an evil dictator of an alien planet. The problem? Ham III is less of an action-movie hero, and more of a goofball. He was selected for the mission because of his grandfather, and is now in way over his head, to the annoyance of the other chimp astronauts, Luna and Titan.

Gameplay is 3D third-person platforming and combat. You'll control either Ham III or Luna, depending on the level, with Ham III having a stronger melee ability, and Luna having ranged attacks. There are hidden Globhoppers in each level, which let you unlock movie clips and concept art, and one Dole Banana in each level, which let you unlock costumes.

Mediocre at best

The Good
While there wasn't too much I liked, I DID like a few things. It was fairly easy (as far as I played at least) and parts of the movie were in it (but I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know how accurate it is). Also, the controls weren't TERRIBLE.

The Bad
Just like 90% of all licensed games, there was little effort put into this game. This movie game is mainly a platformer, but there are mini games that are shooters... they're bad.

The graphics are decent. Not great, but decent. As for the framerate...it's a bit harder to explain. You see, in areas where very, VERY little is going on (ex. ONLY the background is moving) and you are standing still, the frame rate is actually better than most PS2 games. But in most... well almost ANY other case, it lags as most PS2 games do.

The gameplay is, overall, jump on this, collect that, jump on this, climb that, jump on this, kill that, rinse, repeat. As mediocre as is gets.

Also, the sound is MESSED UP!!! Either the music is so loud, or their was a problem recording the voices. Either way, you have to thank GOD for subtitles!

The Bottom Line
Do not buy unless you either have every single other PS2 game (nerd) or you LOOVED the movie. And I mean LOOOOOOVED the movie!
