Evony: Age I

Description

Evony: Age 1 is a flash, browser-based Massively Multiplayer Online Real-Time Strategy game (MMORTS) set in a medieval fantasy land. It is essentially a kingdom building game in a persistent world in which you can build cities, become a lord and conquer many lands. Some have described this game as "a cross between Civilization with some elements of Age of Empires."

Evony is advertised as "free-to-play" which is a true statement because it costs nothing to join and play. You have the option to purchase additional game items and bonuses to enhance various things within the game, but that is entirely up to you.

Your fledgling empire begins very small. You start out as a normal citizen with a piece of land on which to begin building your first city. On your property, add various types of buildings, shops, military barracks, raw material producing areas (like mines, sawmills or quarries) and other infrastructures. Your city will prosper if it has enough resources, for example housing, food, raw materials, businesses, military forces. In turn you will gain honor, prestige and wealth.

At first, advancement is based upon resources and gold, but military action will be required later on. No one can compromise or attack you during the first seven days of membership. After that, you and your kingdom are vulnerable. Attacks can come from barbarians or another player's rivalling armies without warning. Be prepared by building up large, well-equipped armies for defensive as well as aggressive action against your foes.

Every day you will be given an amulet good for one spin on a "wheel of fortune" of sorts. By spinning the wheel, you may win more lumber, more soldiers, more gold, tools, medals and other goodies to aid you. Completing quests can help you add to your fortune, form alliances and more. As you progress you will have the opportunity to build 9 more cities (10 total per player). Because it is a persistent universe, your subjects continue building, gathering, researching and laboring even when you leave the game.

The game can be played in most modern browsers equipped with Adobe Flash Player 9 or above.

Trivia

Somewhere it needs to be mentioned that Evony has primarily achieved its notoriety not for any quality related to its gameplay but due to its tragically obvious bait-and-switch promotional scheme of ubiquitous banner advertisements boasting lingerie models (not actually contained in the game) inviting players to save them by playing the game.
