Gamer's Pulse (79 out of 100)

Overall, I have mixed feelings about Illbleed. There were times I wanted to break the game over my knee, but there were other times where I actually enjoyed some of the humor and the interesting gameplay. I really think this could have been a standout title with a few tweaks. Better controls, better voice acting, and a better learning curve could have made this game special. Unfortunately, when all is said and done, these all bring Illbleed down to a mediocre game at best. Problems aside, Illbleed is, at the very least, a unique gaming experience. If you’re a survival horror freak looking for something completely different, I heartily recommend Illbleed. Otherwise, approach this title with caution
its spotty controls and awful voice acting could scare you to death.

Illbleed partait bien mais il n'offre finalement pas le plaisir attendu. Les péripéties sont prévisibles, et le systÚme de jeu est pour le moins limité.

Just Adventure (B)

Everything about this game is intentionally cheesy, from the graphics to the plot to the voice acting. But once you catch on that it is intentional, it becomes fun to spot all of the ludicrous themes.

The game has its frustrating moments, but like the bosses, I kept coming back for more long after I thought I was through. Illbleed is original, disturbing, and occasionally terrifying. It's a remarkable game that's worth checking out.

Defunct Games (70 out of 100)

The game is unique, bloody and I love the campy B-grade movie thing it has going on, but the flaws really bring it down. Need to run from a boss? Even if you have the analog stick all the way up you'll probably still walk. Jumping is a pain in the ass with a three second recovery time! Collision detection is questionable. There is no auto lock just a semi version of auto lock. The camera angles are a pain also. Illbleed has a good concept, but muddies it up with bad control. If you can get past that problem you might find an enjoyable game. The Dreamcast has better survival horror games, but when you're done with those you should definitely check out Illbleed.

Planet Dreamcast (7 out of 10)

I expected Illbleed to be terrible. Just one look at the trailer, which told me that the game would make me "$#!t with fear" and I was sure that it was just going to be some awful Resident Evil knock-off. To my surprise, the game had enough fresh ideas to keep me interested for a little while. I was lured in by not only the gameplay, but also the campy, B-movie atmosphere that had made me wary in the first place. Unfortunately, control and camera issues, and the strange stop-n-go gameplay that Illbleed sports may be too annoying to make people want to endure the game's six levels. If you can get past those problems, then you may find something that is actually pretty enjoyable.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault) ( )

Pushing the boundaries of survival horror, Illbleed introduces elements of puzzle and adventure gaming with mixed results. The unique “warning” system that lets you predict the location of traps and enemy attacks, forces you to take a cerebral approach to exploring haunted locales, but it also slows the gameplay to a paranoid crawl in the process. The combat system blends melee and ranged combat, but it does so in a limited space, making it sometimes difficult to maneuver properly. On the plus side, Illbleed offers gamers four characters (and a fifth if you complete one particular quest) who have distinct strengths and weaknesses, along with a macabre sense of humor that manifests in everything from the mission titles (“The Home Run of DEATH!”) to the enemies — which include psychotic lumberjacks and animated crash test dummies.

IGN (6.7 out of 10)

I can appreciate the effort that went into the unique gameplay mechanics of Illbleed, but the clumsy controls and frustrating camera angles, make this game pretty difficult to play. One warning to players that decide to buy this game, it may take you a few tries before you finally grasp what to do in this gam; it doesn't help that you actually have to find certain items that are essential (i.e. Horror Monitor) before continuing on in the game. And when you're constantly worrying about these problems, it's really hard to have fun getting scared with Illbleed.

GameSpot (6 out of 10)

It seems almost miraculous that Illbleed actually made it to the Dreamcast. Admittedly, the game's mechanics aren't entirely sound. However, the game does have a unique, quirky character that might perhaps warrant a look, albeit a quick one. Because its core play mechanics start to wear on you after even a few hours of playing, anything beyond a quick look makes little sense.

Cheat Code Central (3 out of 5)

Ilbleed is an action adventure game that blends horror, the paranormal, strategy and exploring into one game that is all at once entertaining and ultimately frustrating. The frustration stems from the fact that the concept of the game is unique and I would really enjoy playing it if the game didn't feel so underdeveloped. It's not unlike having tons of juicy gossip related to you by a mime. This game has potential to be great, but as it is, I can only say it's half decent.

Game Critics (5 out of 10)

I commend the developers of Illbleed for trying something different with the videogame horror genre. I'm sure it would've been much easier to create the next Resident Evil rip-off, and it's nice to see someone take a chance to create something fresh. But just trying to create something unique doesn't make for a good gaming experience. Had Illbleed polished its gameplay a little and focused less on the slow, slow exploring, it may have been a limited success.

Bordersdown (3 out of 10)

So to finish off Illbleed is a poor attempt at survival horror by the masters of poor attempts - Crazy Games. If you thought Blue Stinger was bad then this is even worse. For a game which featured so much hype I was expecting something really good but yet again the rush of disappointment has hit me. There are a lot of great ideas in the game but great ideas mean nothing without great execution and I am afraid that's entirely what has happened here. Yes, the levels are numerous and large, same with the monsters. Yes, there are some good weapons to find and yes, the graphics are up to Dreamcast quality in places. But the game itself isn't much fun to play which is the main reason for buying a game.
