Description official descriptions

The Psychotron is an adventure from the early development time of live video, set in a wild Texan environment. A sort of Mission Impossible type of game with much usage of live video.

You have been assigned by the US President and the FBI to find out a missing official science project. The video interaction is very sharp and the game also offers the player many puzzles, card and board game sequences.

"You're the best of the best!"

The Good
A low-budget FMV game from a studio with only this credit to its name doesn't sound promising, but The Psychotron delivers in all the best ways. This is a ridiculous game with cheesy acting, an over-the-top plot, poor visuals, and amazing music that comes together for a genuinely entertaining experience.

As a CIA agent, you're tasked by the agency's director to track down a mind-control device that was purchased in secret by the CIA from Russia but has now gone missing after the plane transporting the device crashes on a rural farm. The few puzzles and gameplay aren't terribly notable, though there is a points-based multiplayer mode that scores players based on their effectiveness interviewing witnesses. These interviews are really where the game shines, with hammy acting that really chews the scenery and more often than not is hilarious. You will find yourself going out of your way to reload often to get as many deaths and see as many video clips as you can. The devs knew exactly what they were doing here, and they succeeded.

The Psychotron later received a port to the Saturn in Japan, where it seemed to my ear that the Japanese dubbed voice acting successfully retained the exaggerated tone.

The Bad
The game is at least a couple segments too short, the scoring system feels a bit pointless, and the game can hardly be described as 'good' in conventional terms.

The Bottom Line
Despite its objective shortcomings, if games are ultimately meant to provide entertainment and recreational value, it's clear this delivers!

This was the single worst game I have ever played

The Good
It was free and was the first time I got to see a CD-Rom drive work in the early 90's.

The Bad
Everything else.

The Bottom Line
This game was one of the first full motion video games to come on CD. It centered around some loose story of CIA involvment in a mind control device. The game itself was amazingly weak and glitchy. All in all - after nearly twenty years of computer gaming I pick this game as the single worst one I have ever played.
