Zombie Revenge is an excellent action/fighter which packs variety and is long enough to keep you busy. It combines demonic bosses, tons of weapons, and familiar locales. If you like this genre, then Zombie Revenge will surely meet your expectations and it's better than Dynamite Deka 2 (AKA Dynamite Cop!)...

This game is a good example of how to port an arcade game. Keep the gameplay the same, but add lots of extras, to add some replay value. Unfortunately, the original game was very repetitious and short, and gets boring very quickly -- add in the fact that there are some issues with control, the technical aspects, and this game quickly descends to the ârentalâ rating. I do recommend picking this game up at Blockbuster or Hollywood Video for a weekend of Zombie-bashing fun.

Although Zombie Revenge is a perfect arcade conversion and is fantastic fun to play, this is only the case for a very limited amount of time.

Revisiting a classic game from a different point of view is a great idea. It's not unheard of--think MK Mythologies, or the third-person POV Duke Nukem game for the PlayStation--but it's rarely been done and it's almost never worked. Given the success of Zombie Revenge, it's something we bet (and hope) a lot more game makers are going to be looking into.

The game could definitely be considered a worthy follow up to all the great side-scrollers of gaming's past. If you're in the market for a quick flashback, there really isn't much out there to choose from. Dynamite Cop is a worthy contender, but there's certainly more replay value here.

Of course, challenge in an arcade game is half the point. ZR comes with a number of additional modes into the bargain, like Original Mode, where you can begin to unlock cheats with the help of your VMU. If nothing else, the game is replayable as all hell, and if you like straight arcade beat-'em-up action, it's either this or Dynamite Cop, and at least ZR has some replay value to it.

God of War) nach unten.

Like HOTD2, this won't keep you occupied for months on end, but there are enough secrets to be discovered to make you keep going back for another try. The option to raise a little fighter of your own via the VMU is a neat touch and it's fun when you can collect food for it in the Original mode. If you already loved the arcade game and want something to show of the flashy capabilities of the Dreamcast, buy this. For a more long-term challenge, go for Code Veronica.
May 2000 · Dreamcast · read reviewZombie Revenge plays like a third-person House of the Dead, with one or two players fighting zombies and plant monsters in factories and sewers. The generic name is fitting, because Sega clearly didn't put a lot of thought or effort into this title. Still, I like its arcade-style mayhem, which combines fast-paced action with well-defined visuals and crisp controls.

Wow, that's a whole lot of complaining. I have to emphasize that despite these flaws, the game underneath is damn fun. There's just nothing I like as much as some good zombie action. I wish Sega had taken more time with Zombie Revenge; removed the loading times, made some graphical improvements, hired actual voice actors, and added another mission or two. Then they could have made something to really be proud of. As it stands, there's just not enough meat on this zombie's corpse. It's the perfect rental, but I wouldn't buy it.

Objectively, it's not as if Sega didn't try to add longevity to Zombie Revenge. It most certainly did, but to put it bluntly, the company still has a long way to go before it reaches a Namco level of quality insofar as home conversions are concerned. The extra modes are more novelty than added value, and the fact that the game itself is severely flawed makes the extra modes nothing more than severely flawed extra modes. While this sort of gameplay may suit some folks just fine, someone looking for a good reason to part with 50 bucks should look elsewhere. It's worth a rental for curiosity's sake, but it'd be better to wait and see if Sega gets the sequel right.

Save a few bucks by renting ZR. Enjoy the graphics (which are quite sumptuous) and dabble in the VMU mini-games. However, as you hand the CD back to the clerk, have these words all practiced and ready to speak; repeat after me: "Anybody turn in a copy of Crazy Taxi yet?" You see, Crazy Taxi will drive you to happy distraction; ZR will just drive you nuts. Satisfaction, it seems, goes to the quick, not the dead.

This is definitely a game that you should rent or borrow only. Don't waste your money on Zombie Revenge unless you REALLY liked the arcade version and you want another action type game in your library. More time should've been spent on this game, especially on the controls and voice acting.

Zombies are great, and so is revenge. Zombie Revenge on the other hand isnât great. The controls arenât responsive enough and the game isnât fun for long. If you are in desperate need of a quick little action game I advise you not to pay more than 8 dollars for Zombie Revenge. You may pick it up for a quick play occasionally, only to realize why you stopped playing the game. Even zombies arenât enough to save this game from depths of mediocrity. Hell, this game isnât even quite good enough for the depths of mediocrity.

Decent Arcade Game With Lots of Action
by ZombieDepot (45)
The Good
Zombie Revenge is a fun arcade game, it's quick, full of action, and has a very short learning curve. This makes it easy for you to invite a friend over, and kill a few zombies for a while.
There are a lot of secrets, 3 characters, tons of weapons, a two player battle mode, bosses, and a few different single player modes.
The Bad
The main problem with this game is the plot line is terrible. Either lost through translation, or originally just that bad, it just plain sucks. It ruins the incentive to play on after you've died through all of your continues.
Very little replayability, the developers added a lot of nice stuff for you to be entertained with, but it doesn't keep you entertained for long. The novelties expire quickly.
The Bottom Line
Zombie Revenge is a decent arcade game with a lot of action, but it doesn't stand up to more popular "zombie" games, such as Resident Evil/Biohazard in plot or fun.
This does not make the game bad though, if all you want is a quick arcade game and have a friend or two over it'd be perfect for you. If you want mystery, puzzles, and a half-way interesting plot, I'd stick with Resident Evil.
