Fallen Earth
Description official description
Sometime in the 2050s, the crippling "Shiva" virus begins to spread across the globe. With evidence suggesting Shiva has been bio-engineered, the world's nations are quick to blame each other for its creation - blame which escalates into nuclear war. The player takes control of one of the 1% of the Earth's population to survive both the virus and the bombs, and must try to carve out a life in the area around the Hoover Dam Garrison - the last known human outpost in the world.
Fallen Earth is a post-apocalyptic MMO, set in the area around North America's Grand Canyon (and based on topographical maps of that region). Players may align themselves with one of six factions, and carry out quests for their faction of choice while uncovering the overarching story behind the past and future of the new world.
There are no official classes in Fallen Earth. Instead, players use earned skill points to purchase new abilities from delineated skill trees. A player can create a character similar to traditional RPG classes (Medic, Tank, DPS) by training in the appropriate skills, but they are not locked to that template and can create a hybrid with divergent abilities. "Mutations" also grant the equivalent of MMO toolbar spells, and can be selected to further refine the player's character.
Combat can be controlled from either first or third-person, and resembles a standard shooter more than the traditional "lock on" combat of MMOs. Players must manually keep their sights on an enemy to score hits, with their character's skills or attributes determining damage. Players can train with rifle, pistol, or melee weapons, with each specializing in doing the maximum damage inside a particular distance range. Players can fight various NPC enemies or creatures during their quests, or engage in PvP against their faction's enemies.
Crafting plays an important role, and each character can learn a separate set of "Tradeskills" with no limitations (beyond the hefty time requirement to master each). Tradeskills cover harvesting and mining, cooking, weapons, armor, and vehicles. Recipes are learned in groups called "knowledges" (granted as books, quest rewards, or learned from other players), and components for all items are looted from creatures, scavenged from the world, or gained by breaking down unwanted items. Players can craft items while online or off, with reduced XP granted while offline. Simple items like medkits or ammo can be crafted in minutes, while highly complex items (like cars) must be built in stages over days, with the character confined to an item-appropriate workshop for the duration of the crafting.
