Wreckless has dry wit, and offers a sardonic view of action games. The game does have some features not available on other platforms, but lacks the graphical firepower of a game like Spyhunter. This game is enjoyable and challenging, but is also one of those games that likely won’t have you glued to your console system for hours at a time.

Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions can be a relatively fun game for a little while, if solely based on the fact that a good time is always had by breaking tons of stuff. The fun wears off pretty soon though, and you'll soon realize that this game is as deep at a kiddy pool. The missions are all varied types of the same couple of themes, so they just feel like a new coat of paint on the same old car. The game also has a few questionable features, like the jokingly bad multiplayer mode. Wreckless might provide a short bit of mindless crashing fun for a bit, but it gets boring and repetitive pretty quick.

Wreckless, on the surface, is a sane enough port of Bunkasha Games' Xbox original (where did that software house go, anyway?). You've got four main characters, two sets of missions, 30 or so cars, and a giant rendered version of Hong Kong to recklessly drive about in. Most of the missions and cars are locked at the start and must be unlocked by completing missions in both Easy and Hard mode. There are twice as many missions to play now, but they still mainly involve bashing enemy cars to bits or completing a course through city streets under certain conditions (time limit, damage limit, and so on).

Officiel Nintendo Magazine (5.5 out of 10)

GameSpot (5.4 out of 10)

The poorly optimized GameCube version robs the original of most of its visual style and slows the pace considerably, resulting in a mediocre mission-based driving game with poor handling.

Gaming Target (5.1 out of 10)

One of the biggest additions to the Gamecube version of Wreckless is the two player mode that was absent in the Xbox version. In four separate locations of Hong Kong, players compete in a variety of gameplay modes involving a hectic high speed chase through the city. In an unusual attempt at originality, the developers put both cars on the same screen rather then separating them via a split screen mode. Since the focus is mainly on the chase car, it’s difficult at times as the lead car since there will be times when you’ll speed ahead and attempt to change directions leading you into another car on the street or some other obstacle that will slow you down considerably.

This port is an enormous oops -- it's as simple as that. I wish there was at least one redeeming factor; alas, the only thing I can think of is that I got paid to write this review while there's probably thousands of unknowing gamers dropping 50 bucks on a game that should have never been stamped with Nintendo's official "Seal of Quality" in the first place.
