Overall I'm very happy with how this game turned out. I enjoyed getting to pick and choose which Hyper Signature Move I can better pummel my enemies with. It is great to get to play as all these characters on a next-gen console game finally. I wish the Legend Mode had more story following what came after the confrontation with Raoh, but Dream Mode does add some extra meat to it.

I think this will appeal mostly to players who can stomach slow combat. You cannot button mash through Ken's Rage, and once you understand that, oh does the game open up in ways I really didn't expect.

Dass sich Koei bei der Umsetzung dieser hochrangigen Comic-Lizenz im Wesentlichen auf die Dynasty Warriors-Mechaniken verlässt, die vor allem in Fernost sehr beliebt sind, kann man ihnen nicht vorwerfen. Dass man es dabei aber nicht einmal schafft, die Dynamik zu replizieren, die nicht nur die Koei-Krieger, sondern auch die Konkurrenz wie Sengoku Basara kennzeichnet, ist bedenklich. Die Steuerung ist zu träge, die Kollisionsabfrage zu ungenau und die Auseinandersetzungen sind nur leidlich fordernd. Nicht einmal die explizite Gewaltdarstellung hat das Potenzial, die Kohlen aus dem Feuer zu holen, da man sich schnell an den wenigen Finishern sattgesehen hat. Man findet zwar hinter der staubigen Endzeit-Kulisse auch gelegentlich ein paar gute Ideen wie die Figuren-Entwicklung oder die sich an den Mangas orientierende Geschichte. Doch das reicht bei weitem nicht aus, um die mechanischen Unzulänglichkeiten zu kaschieren.

Au delà de l'immense respect de l'oeuvre originale, Fist of the North Star : Ken's Rage n'en reste pas moins un mauvais titre. Blindé de défauts, lent, mou et totalement inintéressant du début à la fin, le titre de Koei stigmatise à lui tout seul ce que peut donner un magnifique ratage basé sur une franchise malheureusement sous-exploitée. Dommage d'autant que l'idée de départ était parfaitement adaptée au manga original. On pourra toujours se satisfaire de la bonne durée de vie, des nombreux personnages à incarner et des débordements gore mais il va sans dire que cela ne sauvera pas notre pauvre Kenshiro du naufrage. Comme dirait l'autre, tu ne le sais pas encore mais tu es déjà has-been.
