Wer nicht unbedingt den großen Fernseher zum Spielen braucht und mit seinen Freunden gerne einmal mehrere Nintendo DS zusammen bringt, der fährt mit der DS-Version von Mario & Sonic bei den Olympischen Winterspielen wesentlich besser. Die Disziplinen sind abwechslungsreicher, das Erlebnis für Einzelspieler ist länger und besonders die Abenteuerrouten haben es mir angetan. Es steuert sich zwar nicht ganz so intuitiv wie die Wii-Version und ein klein wenig Button-Mashing ist nicht zu leugnen, beides schmälert den Gesamteindruck aber nur unwesentlich. Wer die Wahl hat und den DS nicht scheut, darf ohne Reue zugreifen. Mario & Sonic bei den Olympischen Winterspielen ist die perfekte Werbung für Vancouver 2010.

Auf dem NDS schlagen gleich zwei bekannte Duos zu: Zwei sind kaum zu bremsen bei dem hinterhältigen Versuch, die Olympischen Winterspiele zu verhindern. Und zwei sind kaum zu bremsen bei dem tapferen Versuch, diesen fiesen Plan zu vereiteln. Da braucht es eigentlich weder Bud noch Terrence, um auf den Trichter zu kommen, welches Duo gewinnt. Richtig klasse fand ich den Abenteuermodus - der macht aus diversen Mini-Spielen sozusagen ein Sport-Adventure. Super! Will ich allerdings mit Freunden auf Medaillenjagd gehen, dann reise ich lieber mit der Wii nach Vancouver: So gut der Einzelspieler-Modus auf dem NDS ist, so viel besser ist der Mehrspieler-Modus auf der Wii.

Overall, I love this game. It’s quick, fun and easy to pick up. It’s got a pretty wide range of options and types of play which means more variety and more replayability which results in higher value to cost ratio. Well done once again. You would think we might get tired of these titles, and perhaps you’re right. But they’ve done both summer and winter Olympics now so hopefully they’ll move onto new places and events and leave the Olympics to the athletes.

At the end of the day, SEGA have created a very fun and entertaining Nintendo DS game that contains a wide range of fun games from snowboarding (tricks included) to the fast experience of the downhill Luge. As all your favourite gaming characters come together, it's easy to get addictive to this game, especially with friends as you attempt to go for gold. Strong gameplay, great graphics and best of all, you can have Mario vs Sonic!

„Mario & Sonic bei den Olympischen Winterspielen“ zeigt sich durchweg solide und kann es durchaus mit anderen Sportartensammlungen aufnehmen. Die Steuerung ist intuitiv, es werden die wichtigsten Disziplinen angeboten und bei 20 unterschiedlichen Charakteren aus der Sega- und Nintendo-Welt hat man die Qual der Wahl. Besonders unterhaltsam sind die Traumdisziplinen, die teilweise ziemlich stark an „Mario Kart“ erinnern, aber ganz ordentlich umgesetzt wurden und jede Menge Spaß machen. Der Abenteuermodus wirkt zwar leicht aufgesetzt, aber insgesamt kann er dennoch überzeugen, da er die Sportarten in eine kleine Rahmenhandlung hüllt und diese ganz nett inszeniert wird. Für Einzelspieler ist der Wintersport auf Nintendos Handheld daher sicherlich geeigneter, als die Wii-Version, in der ein solcher Modus gänzlich fehlt.

Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games is a fun, enjoyable, and approachable experience that improves upon last year's Summer Games outing. The variety of both game types and style make for a highly enjoyable experience. Just don't be fooled; this isn't a hardcore game of any sort - it's essentially a collection of Mario-fied mini-games themed around the Winter Olympics. But with its brimming supporting cast pulled from both Mario and Sonic's past, gamers have an instantly recognizable world full of character to explore. Its non-violent and engaging gameplay is sure to appeal to many, while the multiplayer design of the events make it a prime travel or "pass the time" option. It's obvious that developer SEGA Japan put a lot of time in the Nintendo DS version, crafting an experience that stands proudly on its own two feet.

Wie zu erwarten sorgt auch das zweite gemeinsame Sportspiel der einstigen Rivalen in geselliger Runde für den größten Spaß. Sympathische Charaktere, abwechslungsreiche, gut zu steuernde (wenn auch meist ziemlich simple) Disziplinen und ein paar nette Extras werden Multiplayerfans mit einem Faible für Minigames eine ganze Weile blendend unterhalten. Nur eine Online-Unterstützung vermisst man erneut. Doch auch Einzelkämpfer gehen hier nicht leer aus: Der eingebaute Abenteuermodus ist zwar nicht perfekt, aber weitaus motivierender als das Singleplayer-Angebot vieler vergleichbarer Minigame-Sammlungen

Small control and connection issues aside, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games for the DS is the superior version. Its multiplayer options are huge, its events are plentiful and its Adventure Mode is definitely worth exploring. This duo scores the gold medal.

It's rare that a handheld game surpasses it's console cousin, but this is definitely the case here. The inclusion of the adventure mode is really quite different to anything you'll find in any sports game anywhere. And it's a definite plus, and just in case it doesn't appeal it's not compulsory. Sega should be commended for what they've done here, it's a real fresh of breath air, and I look forward to seeing other pairings of genre from them if it works this well.

Ich hatte den Klempner und seinen blauen Kumpel gar nicht auf der Rechnung: Noch eine Minispiel-Sammlung, noch eine Aneinanderreihung relativ oberflächlicher Sportarten, die nur in Gemeinschaft so richtig Laune machen? Wie öde! Doch ich hatte mich glatt verrechnet! Marios und Sonics Verwandlung zu Wintersportlern katapultiert sich dank kooperativem Wii-Spiel und des umfangreichen Mehrspieler-Inhalts auf DS nämlich in die Oberliga der Sportsammlungen. Es gibt zahlreiche reale und fiktive Disziplinen, die man trotz einer nicht immer unmittelbaren Steuerung ratzfatz intus hat - für Multiplayer-Abende ist das nahezu perfekt. Vor allem die knackigen Solo-Herausforderungen des DS- Abenteuers konnten mich unerwartet lange unterhalten!

Après une version Wii réussie mais trop proche du précédent Mario & Sonic, autant dire que la mouture DS de cet épisode a de quoi étonner. Plus intéressant, plus jouable et proposant un mode Aventure bien pensé à même de gonfler la durée de vie du produit, le titre de Sega se montre extrêmement prenant que ce soit en solo ou en multi. Bien qu'étant parfois déséquilibré en terme d'épreuves, le côté jouissif de l'ensemble l'emporte haut la main et démontre à qui de droit qu'on peut encore innover dans le domaine du multi-épreuves.

It may be hard to take Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games seriously, but the good news is, you won’t have to in order to enjoy this package. A lot of love and attention to detail has been given over to the gameplay, though the actual story falls flat. The character personalities manage to shine through, however, and with so much variety, there’s something here for pretty much everyone to enjoy. The fully realized Adventure Tours makes a great introduction for players picking the title up for the very first time, and the breadth of modes and extras should extend the life of the game for a good, long while.

On the whole, you’re well advised to get Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games if you’re after a fun and accessible single-player adventure. The sports are hit and miss, but the Sonic Rush-like Supersonic Downhill and Fever Hockey are addictive events you’ll go back to time and time again. It may not have the subtle controls of the Wii version, or the same amount of unlockable content, but it’s still an enjoyable pick-up-and-play title that’s well worth a look.

Per sfruttamento del pennino, godibilità dei minigiochi, varietà degli eventi e spensieratezza dei personaggi e delle situazioni proposte, Mario & Sonic ai Giochi Olimpici Invernali è un titolo caldamente consigliato a tutti i possessori di un Nintendo DS. La schiera di coloro che dovrebbero acquistarlo, tuttavia, si rimpicciolisce sensibilmente se si considerano coloro che non amano le discipline olimpiche invernali e quelli che da un gioco pretendono, prima di ogni altra cosa, un alto livello di sfida. Intendiamoci: padroneggiare a fondo tutti gli eventi e salire sul gradino più alto del podio non sarà semplicissimo ma, in generale, il gioco metterà raramente alla prova le vostre abilità di videogiocatori, essendo pensato anche per i ragazzi e le famiglie. Rimane una buona prova dei ragazzi di Sega e un prodotto ben confezionato, che in una gara olimpica, avrebbe probabilmente meritato un piazzamento d’onore, ma non l’agognata medaglia d’oro.

Au final, ce Mario & Sonic aux Jeux Olympiques d'Hiver se révèle être un excellent jeu de sport. En plus de son univers toujours aussi agréable, le soft se paye le luxe de proposer des épreuves intéressantes et aux gameplay variés, tant et si bien que la monotonie n'est jamais au rendez-vous. Techniquement plaisant, le titre de SEGA propose par ailleurs un bon compromis entre jeu multijoueurs (à quatre avec une seule cartouche) et solo (avec son mode Aventure très bien conçu). Un excellent moyen de patienter jusqu'au véritable Jeux Olympiques de Vancouver qui débuteront en février 2010.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games does a great job of making Track & Field-style gameplay fun on Nintendo's portable console. The graphics and sound may be the same as before, but the controls are much better and make the game more enjoyable. Both the traditional and fantasy events are well thought out, and there's plenty for both the single-player and multiplayer modes to deal with. In short, fans of casual sports games will find plenty to love about this title, which manages to be just as good as the home console version.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games still has a bit of a “farmed out” feel to it. The game lacks the soul of a first party Nintendo offering, and the re-used assets and key art found in dozens of other games, posters, or box art gives the appearance that this game was somehow built off old standby content and not hand-crafted by the companies that brought you these fine mascots in the first place. It’s fun to see Mario team up with Sonic, even if the story in Adventure Tours mode doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, and the evens – while still hit or miss – offer far more compelling gameplay mechanics and a whole lot more depth. Both the DS and Wii versions of this franchise are going to sell like hot cakes every time a new Olympic season rolls around, but at least players will have a reason to keep coming back to the DS game long after the waggle-fest on Wii wears thin.

Unterm Strich sorgen die einfach zu erlernende Steuerung, die phantasievollen Traumdisziplinen und die vielen kleinen Party-Spiele für schnell einsetzendes Grölen und Quieken, das zwei, drei Turniere lang durchs Treppenhaus schallt. Danach ergeht es Sonics und Marios Winterexkurs wie dem Vorgänger: Weil's so witzig war, hängt man noch ein paar Runden dran, nimmt den Abenteuermodus auf dem DS mit und verfrachtet das Spiel genauso schnell in den Schrank, wie der Winter jedes Jahr kommt und geht.

Perhaps the reason why the game struggled to hold our interest is down to its plodding pace, and the sometimes befuddling controls. Most of the events require a combination of three different actions, and some even employ a cumbersome mixture of D-pad controls and stylus inputs and motions, which means it's recommended you play the game with your stylus wand stashed behind your ear for ease of reach and an empty brain ready to cache all the button inputs and stylus swipes required to walk away with a coloured medal. That said, if you're a fan of the original game, you're sure to find much to like in this sequel. And it's certainly the perfect game to put a smile on your face over those bleak winter months.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games provides a nice shell for minigame-based missions with a bit of charm to it. It has some solid games mixed in with a few ones that could however also be instantly forgotten. It's no classic, but definitely a step in the right direction. Multiplayer undoubtedly provides some great fun if you can get some friends/siblings with their own DS's.

In the end we can see Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games as a collection of minigames. The clumsy controls are the biggest problem although this isn't too much of an issue as they do work. If you like this genre of games then this title can be interesting at a budget price. With a couple of friends the fun can only become bigger. The rest of the world won't miss a thing if they keep away from this.

Ich geb’s zu, der Test-Bericht klingt mal wieder ziemlich hart. Letztlich ist Mario & Sonic bei den Olympischen Winterspielen aber eine grundsolide Sportspielsammlung, die in beiden Versionen, zumindest bei einigen Disziplinen, im Mehrspielermodus durchaus für ein paar launige Herbst- und Winterabende sorgen kann. Hier liegt aber genau das Problem: Das Spiel ist nichts Besonderes, obwohl es das sein sollte. Grafik und Sound gelangen nur selten knapp über Durchschnittsniveau und die Umsetzung der verschiedenen Wintersportdisziplinen feiert eingefahrene Minispielkonzepte ab. Um so tragischer ist es in den Traumdisziplinen zu sehen, was für eine Spielspaßbombe aus dem Titel hätte werden können, hätte man sich ganz auf die irrwitzige, Extrawaffen-strotzende Spin-Off-Tradition á la Mario Kart konzentriert, anstatt die Helden die meiste Zeit unpassenderweise in leidlich realistisch und wenig spannend inszenierten Sportarten antreten zu lassen.

It boasts impressive 3D visuals, a decent (albeit simplistic) single-player adventure mode, and plenty of (offline) multiplayer options. Unfortunately, the mini-games on offer simply aren't all that exciting. There are some gems scattered throughout, but they're mostly few and far between.
