Overall, Lego: Pirates was a game experience I'd be willing to play over and over again in order to complete all of the side objectives in the game. Initially getting through the puzzles is engaging and being able to go back later and unlock all the things I couldn't access before is made less tedious by just how nice the game looks to play and the de-emphasis on the combat. And the fact that I'm playing with pirates, which as we all know are far more awesome than ninjas.

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is a great LEGO game, and certainly proves that the LEGO franchise is still capable of innovation. Though I was disappointed by last month's LEGO Star Wars III, LEGO Pirates has restored my faith in the series. And with four different movies to play through, as well as plenty of hidden areas and collection quests to complete, there's quite a bit of content to plunder in LEGO pirates. So if ye be lookin' for family-friendly fare, and ye ain't afraid of some treacherous waters, than you can procure yourself a copy of LEGO Pirates and have a rollicking good time! Savvy?

Even with nearly ten games in the LEGO series, the formula is still as captivating as it was from the first day. The use of the Pirates license is respectful while gently poking fun at its iconic moments. The gameplay could use a bit more polish, but there is indeed a lot to do in this game, making it one of the best Pirates games to date. To sum it all up, LEGO Pirates is a lot like the main character of the franchise, Jack Sparrow. Sometimes its messy, confusing and even annoying, but you still love it anyway. Savvy?

In the end, whether or not you need to pick up Lego PotC depends solely on how big a fan you are of the franchise. If you are not much of a fan of the PotC movies you can skip it without missing much, especially if you have played one of the other Lego games. But if you enjoy the Lego gameplay and are amused by the antics of Jack Sparrow (who is animated so brilliantly I could almost swear they used motion capture) and friends, this is a slam-dunk pick-up.

IGN (7.5 out of 10)

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is an absolute blast for fans of either franchise. Its gameplay is simple to learn and incredibly addicting. You’ll no doubt spend dozens of hours trying to collect everything you can, and the fact that all four movies are present keeps the pacing of the game from dragging too much. You’ll find yourself reliving many classic moments in short order. Musically the game is spectacular as it features many of Hans Zimmer’s best cues from the films, and while the characters are silent, they still manage to be quite expressive. Yet the game can’t seem to learn from its predecessors, featuring no online of any sort, confounding puzzle design and flawed controls. Despite its issues, this is a good game to pick up as a light-hearted alternative to some of the more grim and gritty material out there, particularly for those with younger players in the house.

More of the same, but with pirates instead of Jedi. Fun for fans of the series.

Not that it is an experience to be dismissed. LEGO Pirates is a well crafted adaptation and there are undeniably far more obnoxious child-friendly tie-ins on the market for which that can’t be said. The value you get from it will rely heavily on whether you are familiar enough with the subject matter or are patient enough with a loved one who is. All in all, LEGO maintain supremacy as the masters of the casual co-op experience, and if you have enough interest in a LEGO version of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to have read this far then it’s probably for you.

There are a few niggles, but as a whole LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is another great entry into TT Games’ long-running series. It’s funny, perfect for fans of the films or just those in the market for some light-hearted antics and has more content than you could shake a peg leg at.

Too many basic flaws hinder the block-bashing fun of Lego Pirates of the Caribbean.

Lego Pirates of the Caribbean can be fun, so long as you don't get bored of doing the same things over and over again. The humor of the LEGO series remains, however, so there will be laughs along the way.

Nintendo Life ( )

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is the perfect gaming analogy of Jack Sparrow. At times brilliant and able to thrill, while on other occasions accident prone and unsteady on its feet. This title has strong production values, moments of terrific gameplay and witty humour to make anyone smile. Unfortunately, level design can be frustrating, excessive chaos and confusion sucks the fun out of the game and newbies to the series could potentially get very, very confused. It's decent family fun, as long as the family know what the heck they’re doing.

While LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game is definitely a fun play, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing it at full price (unless, of course, you’re a LEGO aficionado). For those of us living in the United States, I’d steer clear of this one until I can get it for $20 or less at the local Big Lots, along with any other budget gem you may find while you’re there. And no, I was not paid to write that.
