Description

Aussie Rules Coach is a strategy management game in which the player takes control of an Australian Rules Football team.

Australian Rules Football is a game played by two sides of twenty two players, eighteen on the pitch and four 'interchanges', using an oval ball. The object of the game is to score points by getting the ball between the opponents goal posts of which there are four. Six points are scored for getting the ball between the two inner posts and one point is scored for getting the ball between the two outer posts.

The ball may be kicked or, alternatively, the player may run with the ball in which case it must be bounced at least once every fifteen meters.

Games are played over four quarters each of which lasts twenty minutes.

This game combines both the managerial side of the game with control of players during the match. The object of the game is to win matches. If enough matches are won during the season the team will finish with a high ARC league ranking and will qualify for the the ARC Finals where there's a chance to win the ARC Cup.

There are sixteen teams in the ARC league. During the season each team will play all the other teams in a sequence of fifteen matches. The gamer's team must finish in the top six in order to enter the ARC Finals. The Finals consist of two quarter final matches, two semi final matches and the ARC Cup Final itself.

The game starts with the gamer selecting one of the sixteen teams for the season. The teams are pre-populated with players so the management side of the game is really about picking the best squad, allocating positions and deciding on the tactics for the next game.

Matchplay has been simplified in the interests of making the game more fun to play, so some rules such as infringements and penalties have not been implemented. During the match there are three main camera views that can be used - the Player-cam will focus on an individual player, the TV-cam will show the match from a variety of angles, and the Wide-cam which the gamer can use to monitor the game from a distance.

During a match the gamer has access to the Coach command screen. Each player has their own characteristics which are controlled via slider bars. Adjusting these changes the way they, and therefore the team play. These changes can be made to individuals or to groups of players during the game or during a tactical timeout.

Other game features include:* Four Hundred and eighty players

  • Sixteen computer managers to play against
  • Eight stadiums
  • Multiple camera angles
  • Player tracking statistics
  • Commentary from Drew Morphett
  • A comprehensive browser based manual that explains the rules and the game's tactics
