Kirby Mass Attack does a great job of slowly introducing new play techniques, so that each level feels different. In one, you will figure out how to create a bubble around some multiple Kirbys so that you can float them up to hard-to-reach places. You will draw the path for the bubble. In another, you will double tap on a spot to have the Kirbys swarm to attack a baddie. Sometimes, when enough Kirbys jump on a plant, it will fall over, crushing the bad guys in the process. This is a game that encourages exploration and creative thinking as you play.

All of this makes Kirby Mass Attack a sublime adventure no fan should be without. The unique team-up mechanic, vibrant graphics and cheery soundtrack make this one of Nintendo's finest portable efforts. It's everything we love about Kirby, by the power of ten.

Destructoid (9.5 out of 10)

With five worlds that contain a sizable variety of levels apiece, plenty of reason to replay old stages, and the most stunning array of extra minigames I've seen in a long time, Kirby Mass Attack is a surprisingly deep, rich and versatile bundle of fun. Mix in that classic Kirby charm and you also have one of the finest adventures to ever grace a DS. Cleverly designed, overwhelmingly cute, and devoted to fun, Kirby Mass Attack is a game that should become part of your handheld library without question.

For the most part, though, this is a thoroughly solid action/adventure/platforming title that is constantly creative and predominantly fun. If you’ve been a fan of Nintendo’s recent efforts in the field, you’ll not be disappointed by what Mass Attack provides.

The only hang-up is the sometimes-frustrating imprecision inherent in all touch-controlled games. At times, the Kirbys simply don’t follow the path intended for them, and frustrating deaths result. It’s a minor gripe outweighed by many merits, though. This is delicious game design, and a fitting sendoff for a device that forced game-makers to think in unusual ways.

Kirby Mass Attack is an exceptional game despite that one controversial decision, and is still an experience that guarantees hours of fun and enjoyment. Unlockable extras like the Strato Patrol EOS shmup, and timing-based RPG Kirby Quest just sweeten an already enticing package of levels and Kirby cuteness. Canvas Curse opened the door for the flood of charming and innovative titles that found a home on Nintendo's fresh dual screen portable, and now Kirby Mass Attack continues to prove the system is capable even in the wake of the 3DS.

Between the medals, the tasks, the mini-games and the levels themselves, there’s more than ten Kirby’s worth of content here, all wrapped up in the charming and creative wrapper that the Kirby franchise become known for. Kirby may never reach the same level of gaming fame as some of Nintendo’s other properties, but if the pink puffball’s status as a second tier character allows him to show up in such innovative, out there titles, I’m all for him staying out of the spotlight.

Mass Attack is a superb game. The touch screen interface is as good as any game on the DS to date and they help make an already gorgeous looking and brilliantly designed game even more of a treat. Nintendo have come up with the goods again – with a pocket sized adventure that more than deserves to join its Wii predecessor in the upper echelons of Kirby lore.

But even after grinding through the game, I'm excited to go back and explore the rest of the extra content. Kirby Mass Attack rewards you for replaying it many times over, with several impressively polished mini-games (my favorites being the RPG and pinball ones), big fruit bonuses, and very frequent references to past Kirby titles. If you try to explore the entire game, you'll be playing it for at least 30 hours, but the real joy is seeing a mountain of Kirbys shout "Poyo!" as they race through the game's vivid, exciting worlds.

Worth Playing (9 out of 10)

If Kirby Mass Attack is really going to be the last Kirby title on the Nintendo DS, then it's ended its run on a very high note. The mechanic of controlling 10 Kirbys at once works like a charm thanks to great level design and good controls. The main quest runs at a good length, but the extra goals and fleshed-out minigames really make the package feel like a steal. By retaining the same quality of graphics and sound as before, the title feels warm and inviting to gamers of all types. Kirby Mass Attack should absolutely be part of your portable gaming library.

There will inevitably be Kirby purists who will baulk at the rather unorthodox gameplay concept behind Kirby Mass Attack, but if they do they'll be missing out on one of Kirby's most unique adventures to date. While there are a few extremely minor control issues that pop up from time to time, the touchscreen-only controls perform well, making the game an absolute joy to play. In truth, Kirby Mass Attack might very well be the closest thing to a Canvas Curse sequel we'll ever likely see and proves to be yet another extremely charming and engaging Kirby adventure.

Mass Attack doesn't stray from the colorful, kid-friendly presentation and syrupy sweet platforming that the Kirby franchise is known for, but substantial innovation in the way you play it sets the game apart from its predecessors. The stylus-only controls are a welcome addition, and a terrific balance of familiarity and freshness is what makes this buoyant experience so addictive.

Although the Nintendo’s 3DS seems be transitioning as Nintendo’s next handheld of choice, the big ‘N’ is still giving the original DS/DSi some gaming love, and Kirby: Mass Attack is proof of that. With some really addictive gameplay, combined with solid sound and graphics, all that is found makes this a title that deserves a spot in any DS/DSi collection of games.

And the game itself is truly wonderful, as if to distract you from the horror of the Kirbys’ insatiable appetite and their single-minded obsession with reaching whatever point on the screen you’ve tapped with your stylus. Kirby Mass Attack is a metaphor for hunger, or blind devotion, or the overbearing power of social mores, or maybe post 9/11 patriotism, or the economic collapse of Greece, or Rebecca Black’s latest single, or the premiere of this fall’s network television shows. It’s terrible to behold, but at least it makes for a damn fine game that has single-handedly managed to make my Nintendo DS relevant again.

But as satisfying as this concentrated hit of rainbow nostalgia is, Kirby Mass Attack's biggest accomplishment is how it plays to the handheld strengths of its chosen platform, because even though it's a fairly linear adventure - with exploration only unearthing the odd Kirby coin - its stylus control is one of the tightest on the system. And although we wouldn't go so far as to call it a fitting swansong, if it does, in fact, turn out to be the last game you play on the DS, then you can retire your chewed stylus with a smile.

With a lengthy and remarkably inventive main quest that offers plenty of challenge and a selection of mini-games that can provide nearly as much fun as the main adventure, Kirby Mass Attack is the perfect investment for someone who is looking for another first-rate experience with the aging DS hardware. While the control quirks are sometimes frustrating, the interface is put to good use and makes some interesting ideas come to life that otherwise couldn’t. There’s enough first-rate content here that most gamers will happily master the art of controlling everything with the stylus and they will lose themselves in Dream Land all over again. Necrodeus couldn’t possibly have realized it, but it turns out that ten miniature pink puffballs are in some cases better than one big marshmallow!

It's hard to call Kirby a child's game, even though its aesthetic is obviously geared toward that demographic. The gameplay and charm has delighted many generations of gamers, and the series has become one that most gamers will never outgrow. Kirby Mass Attack may cause you some grief if you're aching for a perfect score of gold medals, but the span of the campaign far exceeds most platformers, and the few sparkling minigames are almost worth the purchase by themselves.
