All told, Sonic CD was a masterpiece long before it appeared on the App Store. This wonderful mobile version only helps solidify its standing as one of the greatest video games of all time.

Pretty much the only issue with Sonic CD is the controls; the d-pad is kind of small, but thatâs about it. The game holds up really well, and its relative scarcity in terms of re-releases makes it only that much more special now. Plus, the reworked engine makes the game feel just like it did back in the halcyon days of 1993, unlike other emulated titles that are exact replications of their original titles. Anyone whoâs a fan of the 16-bit era, and especially those who havenât played this gem yet. The love and work that went into this game is impressive.

Basically, I love this game. And I love it in a way that both fans and Sonic CD newcomers should be able to love it too. Fans will love the care and attention given to the conversion of one of the all-time great Sonic games. Newbies will share the same journey I just had, discovering a gem of a platformer that's been buried in obscurity for far too long. It's still relevant and only the ultra-hardcore level design is likely to put gamers off. If it does, go back to Sonic 2 instead - it's far simpler.

Ultimately, though, Sonic CD is about as perfect a Sonic port as any fan could have hoped for. If youâre looking for a Sonic experience on your iPhone then this is does the job in style.

Overall, Sonic CD is a great port of a classic game that will surely please Sonic fans as well as entertain those new to the game franchise. Plus, the fact that the game only costs $2 is enough reason to get it. If youâre planning to devote some time during the Holidays to playing games on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, be sure to grab Sonic CD from the App Store.
