You may not be the kind of person who should play Asura's Wrath at all, but if you are, you're in for one hell of a weird ride.

This is a game in only the loosest sense of the word, but is an intriguing proposition nonetheless, especially for those with a penchant for action based manga series. Asuraâs Wrath is an original, engaging and occasionally ridiculous game and as a result is certainly a novel experience, though whether itâs an experience that most gamers will be happy paying top dollar for is another matter.

It's such a tough sell, as it's so short and so little of its running time can actually be defined as 'gameplay'. It's such a maverick, though, and such a bananas way to spend eight hours that's almost certainly something everyone should experience. Just don't go expecting the Earth. Asura's already smashed it to pieces.

While it may be different from most games, Asuraâs Wrath shows that games can be more about storytelling than the game, or at least more of a balance than mainly gameplay with a few cut scenes here and there. Given the shortness of the game, itâs at least worth a check out on the weekend, if nothing else.

While its presentation is nice, you might find the over-abundance of quick-time events and aggravating one-on-one duels wearing on you over time.

You have crazy, over the top fights, endless power-ups, plenty of constipated grunting, screaming and groaning, and lots of crazy hair. Unfortunately, it misses any of Toriyamaâs writing ability, characterization, humor, or plotting, and leaves you with a huge lump of crap in your Xbox 360 tray for you to fumigate. Thereâs a distinct impression that the developers werenât sure what to do with the game: the animation isnât quite cel-shaded, but itâs not your standard ârealisticâ 3D animation either. If youâve got some developmental issues and find deep meaning to those DBZ episodes where people face off and grunt in consternation for 25 minutes straight, then Asuraâs Wrath may be up your alley. Maybe. If youâre like the rest of us and are looking for a game with an engaging plot where you actually get to control your character and play the damn thing, then youâd best look elsewhere, because this sure ainât it.

Above all else, Asuraâs Wrath commits the cardinal sin of video games: Itâs not fun. I genuinely commend Capcom for backing such an ambitious, experimental project; I just wish they had read the script first. This was not a story worth telling, and it sure as hell isnât a story worth paying extra for to see how it âreallyâ ends.
