Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters
Description official description
Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters has the player sent on a rescue mission to Planet X. This planet has been taken over by robots and it's up to the player to find and evacuate the remaining humans.
It's a shooter similar to Gauntlet, only with an isometric viewpoint. The protagonist runs around the levels shooting robots, rescuing humans and picking up items. The player has 3 lives and 9 continue play credits.

The Good
Nice EGA graphics. Not too difficult. Has a Zombies Ate My Neighbors vibe.
The Bad
Yes, the keyboard controls are horrible but you can edit the KBD.KBD file using a hex editor to change the controls to your preferred keyboard scancodes. Here's my file which changes fire to CTRL (which also starts the game), bomb to ALT, pause to SHIFT, and quit to ESC. The arrow keys already control movement. Second player is changed to W,A,S,D,<,>:

The Bottom Line
With a little keyboard tweaking this is an instant favorite.

Trivia
Accidental covermount release
One UK ST magazine offered a playable demo of this on a coverdisk. Or, at least, that's how it seemed, until tens of thousands of readers loaded it up and found themselves presented with the full game, then retailing at £25!
Version differences
In the Amiga and Atari version (probably in the other computer conversions too) the gore animations from the arcade version when dying in the spike machine trap were removed.
