Ghost Recon Future Soldier is a must buy if you’re a fan of tactical shooters, and those that have been more wary of the genre should still check it out as it is incredibly accessible. This is easily one of the best games released this year so far.

All in all, Ghost Recon Future Soldier is a strong product with plenty to do. It could easily become your go-to multiplayer fare this summer. The single-player campaign is excellent, and multiplayer is varied and deep. The only thing threatening Future Soldier's greatness is an unproven community of players who may or may not move over from the beta. Of course, only the ghosts know what the future holds.

Gameplay (Benelux) (86 out of 100)

PlayStation Lifestyle (8.5 out of 10)

Ghost Recon Future Soldier offers fun and adrenaline-pumping stealth-infused tactical shooter gameplay, whether players are enjoying its great single player campaign or its even better multiplayer offerings. The game’s accessibility remains a key strength and highlight throughout both sides of the game, enabling both casual fans of squad shooters and more hardcore fans to find something they’ll enjoy. Many players might come (and stay) for the game’s multiplayer offerings, but the single player campaign has more than enough to offer to warrant checking out. Ghost Recon Future Soldier is a robust package from top to bottom that most any fan of shooters could play for countless hours to come.

IGN (8.5 out of 10)

Ghost Recon: Future Solider is a refreshing change from the current trend of thoughtless shooters, and in the moments when everything clicks together, it’s hard to think of a more absorbing shooter. Unfortunately it doesn't always click though, and forgettable dialogue, poor facial animations and inconsistent visuals dent what is otherwise a great game, plus there’s no denying a little extra polish would’ve made a huge difference. But if you’re after a superbly paced, thoughtful shooter that boasts a strong campaign and enjoyable multiplayer, Future Soldier is bang on target.

Only a slight lack of polish lets things down. Although it’s generally a pretty game, poor character models and clipping make the cast of genero-men look like beardy versions of Morph. For all the novels sold, Clancy’s PS3 titles still can’t tell a compelling story, either. Yet with such a brilliantly playful toolset and strong online features (including four-player campaign co-op and a compelling wave-based Guerrilla mode) this is the most impressive soldier since that blue American bloke with the indestructible shield.

It’s unfortunate, then, that we can’t give the multiplayer mode its own score, because developer Red Storm did a bang-up job on that one. Future Soldier’s campaign is still a good time, and it hits a good window as far as length — 12 missions, each lasting an hour or so — but better scripting and storytelling would have carried it to much greater heights. So if you’re planning to do most of your Ghost Recon online, do some mental math and adjust the number upwards. And don’t underestimate the R/C helicopter — no matter what kills you, you’re still just as dead.

Calm Down Tom (8 out of 10)

Overall GRFS is in interesting game that does enough differently to make it worth your while. The story is drivel, and the nods it makes to the Modern Warfare series are almost ruinous. Despite these low moments, however, it seems that whoever wrote the awful story and cut scenes had nothing to do with the brilliant level design and gameplay. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is fun from beginning to end. As a fan of the Rainbow Six Vegas games, its great to see a third person shooter that also emphasizes great design, tactical combat and player emancipation over tightly scripted set pieces and on rails shooting galleries. Its hard to make a modern military shooter that gets your blood pumping, but Ubisoft Red Storm have managed to do just that.

Push Square (8 out of 10)

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has several technical flaws and leans too much on the story devices conceived by several other modern day shooters to its detriment, but where its campaign diversifies with elements of stealth, teamwork and gadgetry it really shines. It's the multiplayer that turns out best, however, focusing on fewer modes of good quality that encourage co-operation rather than all-out killing.

GR:FS is so nearly a landmark game. It's busting with great gadgets, challenging and unusual to play and committed to a true co-op spirit that most rivals have long since abandoned. If only it looked a little better, had a few more maps and U-Play made it easier to find a quick online match-up with your mates. Even so, it's a worthy alternative to any FPS and puts the Ghost Recon franchise right back at the cutting edge.

Gamegravy (7.75 out of 10)

Although I’ve been a little nitpicky, Ghost Recon Future Soldier is by no means a bad game. It trys out some new things, and although they’re gimmicky, they are at least a bit different. It’s a rock-solid third person shooter with good, relatively bug-free co-op and some great action pieces. Although less tactical than the earlier Ghost Recon games, the mix of action and stealth is a good formula that I’m guessing we’ll see again.

Game Informer Magazine (7.5 out of 10)

Tom Clancy shooters have always drawn in military enthusiasts, but after a five-year hiatus Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is facing a much different battlefield. The co-op campaign and competitive multiplayer offer adequate experiences, but the aged graphics, unrefined controls, and clichĂ©-ridden campaign betray the Future Soldier premise and compromise the game’s ability to compete with more technologically refined shooters.

A disappointing entry in the Ghost Recon series, Future Soldier is undoubtedly a solid third-person shooter, but it's nothing more and nothing less. Shame.

TheSixthAxis (6 out of 10)

There’s a lot to like about Ghost Recon Future Soldier but, unfortunately, there’s just as much to dislike. If you don’t care about narrative, don’t need the latest and greatest game engine powering your HD shooters and can live with the confused juxtaposition of stealth and over-the-top action braggadocio then you’ll love it. If you want a tense, tight, stealthy experience then you’ll probably love around half of it and loathe when it robs you of that pleasure. The squad co-op elements are brilliant and the multiplayer is at least trying to be innovative but some terrible decisions throughout the campaign mode – particularly in the final mission – let this game down in a huge way.

Gaming Age (C+)

Overall, Ghost Recon Future Soldier is a mixed bag. I found the multiplayer side of the game to be pretty fun, but the campaign was a chore to try and get through. Not because the difficulty was overly punishing, but more so because it was just downright boring. It certainly has some interesting ideas and mechanics, but it’s not enough to detract from the tepid gameplay. So, if you’re looking for a sound multiplayer shooter it’s not a bad way to go, but I’d avoid the mess of the campaign entirely.

Thunderbolt Games (5 out of 10)

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier does what is expected. It does little else and rarely deviates from the concepts accepted as standard. There’s a sense of regret there with the opportunity to be something bigger, something more, but rather than expounding on the stylistic ambition, Future Soldier camouflages itself with borrowed ideas, blending seamlessly into a crowded genre.
