The big question I have about Wargame: European Escalation is how did this awesome game not get anymore press? This game basically takes everything people enjoy of various RTS games and press it into one big package. Huge maps with both a deep single and multi-player, the ability to zoom in and out on demand, great graphics, player progression, achievements, and the list goes on. If it wasn’t for the annoying unit radio chatter, small multiplayer lag/leaver issue, and a slightly bigger learning curve, this would be the perfect game in my opinion. For $39.99, you get a complete RTS experience for $20 less than the big name productions. I can safely recommend this game to anyone that is willing to take a little time to learn how to play this game. They will be handsomely rewarded with hours of enjoyment working on mastering your inner general!

For now, Wargame: EE has enough to boast about. It's got an incredible level of detail in the micro, with firing computer failures and tracks stuck in the mud, rises elegantly into its massive scale where you only see in terms of flanks surging forward, or lines faltering or holding under pressure. And that's not a figurative rise, as the game allows you to zoom right down to the level of the feet on the ground. You can watch tanks flatten the wheat in the fields as artillery shells rain down before you pull back out to the heavens, where you can hear the bustle of the war room in the background while you peek through the clouds. It's a scope and scale that can be daunting, but it allows for an unparalleled level of player agency within an RTS.

Bon, vous l'aurez compris, pour moi il n'y a pas grand-chose à reprocher à Wargame European Escalation. Il faut juste que les futurs acheteurs soient conscients que c'est un jeu qui demande un petit effort pour connaître les points forts et les faiblesses des unités présentes sur ce champ de bataille des années soixante-dix/quatre vingt. J'aurais tout de même aimé retrouver la possibilité de jouer des batailles en solo en choisissant ses cartes et armées comme dans RUSE. Dis m'sieur Eugen, tu ne voudrais pas nous en décliner une version 36-45 avec des avions a la place des hélicos et pourquoi pas quelques bateaux ?

In such a sterile environment, it can be hard to imagine there is any room left for personality, yet you still create your own personal stories through enacting your tactical prowess in the field. You will fondly remember that one time you ambushed a group of M1A1 Abrams tanks with your hidden Spetznaz troops, or that time you drew out a large enemy force with a feint and wiped them out with a pincer move. Even then, such user-generated tactical narratives only serve the greater purpose of victory at a strategic level. Such is the way of war from the command perspective; a way of thinking in movement vectors, weapon platforms, terrain, and statistics. After two decades, Wargame: European Escalation finally does modern warfare right.

Maar het mag niet deren. Wargame is een real-time strategy die gelukkig weer eens een ander pad bewandelt dan de gemiddelde concurrent in het genre. Het overzicht van grootse slagvelden op verschillende niveaus, brengt nieuwe vormen van strategisch plannen met zich mee. Het onbeschrijfelijk grote aantal eenheden dat je kunt vrijspelen, zorgt voor zo ontzettend veel vrijheid in het maken van jouw ultieme leger. Gelukkig kun je punten verdienen in zowel de singleplayer als multiplayer; op deze manier worden beide werelden met elkaar verbonden. Het gebrek aan de nodige uitleg en de weinige variatie in speelvelden, zal niet iedereen kunnen waarderen. Kun je hier echter voorbij kijken dan zul in Wargaming: European Escalation een generaal spelen, die zelfs de meest geduchte opponent zal vrezen. Zoveel opties, zoveel mogelijkheden om te domineren. Oorlog voeren is zelden zo leuk en spannend geweest.

Some people liked R.U.S.E., some people didn’t. I don’t mind admitting I was probably a little harsh on it when its turn came. Wargame: European Escalation however is definitely a better game – Eugen has taken everything they’ve learned and made a better, more engaging product that’s more focused on the strategy. Looking forward we wouldn’t mind seeing some kind of abilities worked back into the game, whether off-map or unit based (Engineers, for example, don’t really do anything engineering). Regardless of the future though, this game is worth getting now, pure and simple.

Wargame: European Escalation, despite its few flaws, is something special. It's an accessible wargame/RTS hybrid with the capability to engross both fans of the good old-fashioned tank rush and hardcore grognards (who have been debating which side would win in a non-nuclear Third World War for decades). The genres merge well, the graphics and interface are great, and the single-player campaigns alone offer an immense value. Most importantly, it answers some of life's most important questions, like how many T-34/85s a platoon of Challenger 1s can take down before they are finally overwhelmed.

The game is fun and challenging if you’re patient and, most importantly, understand that “build base, recruit units, kill the enemy in the opposite corner” isn’t the only mantra in town.

Gdy oglądamy wprowadzenia do misji, widać mapę całej Ziemi, podzielona na kraje. To daje nadzieję, że jeśli Wargame: Zimna Wojna odniesie sukces, doczekamy się też innych odsłon innych częściach świata. Byłoby to miłe, bo sprzed bojowy NATO i Układu Warszawskiego nie wyczerpuje arsenału ludzkości... Ogólnie jest to kawał świetnej gry, więc im więcej dostaniemy podobnego towaru, tym lepiej. Zwłaszcza, jeśli po drodze zostaną naprawione wszystkie niedoróbki.

There is a lot for Wargamers to like about this game. It's not just challenging from a tactical sense, but it's ease of control and its scale also make it a fun game to play. If RTS games are where you get your kicks, you won't be disappointed with this one.

Wer nach einer Einzelspieler-Kampagne sucht, die in die Fußstapfen von World in Conflict tritt, der wird mit Wargame nicht glücklich. Solisten können von unserer Wertung locker zehn Punkte abziehen. Freunde von knackig-taktischen Mehrspieler-Scharmützeln liegen hier allerdings genau richtig. Denn in Wargame gewinnt die beste Taktik, nicht der beste Rohstoffsammler oder Schnellklicker. Zum Erfolg führen vielmehr taktische Rückzüge, Gefechtspausen und kluges Defensiv-Verhalten. Das tut Hirn und Maustaste gut im sonst so hektischen Echtzeit-Betrieb. Auch wenn der Realismusgrad zugunsten der Spielbarkeit etwas heruntergedreht wurde (Warum gibt es im Dritten Weltkrieg keine Flugzeuge?!) und die Bedienung alles andere als optimal gelöst ist, kann ich Wargame: European Escalation fortgeschrittenen Echtzeit-Taktikern nur empfehlen.

Una vez más, Eugen Systems nos sorprende con un notable juego de estrategia más profundo que sus anteriores trabajos, aunque también algo menos novedoso. Su campaña principal resulta poco atractiva y esta algo desaprovechada, pero gracias a la cantidad de tropas disponibles y la inmensidad de sus escenarios, este es un título que en su vertiente multijugador ofrece tantas posibilidades de juego que cualquier seguidor a la estrategia táctica caerá rendido a sus pies.

If you can stomach some clunkiness in a mostly great feature, Wargame is a good RTS from a company with a lot of experience making good RTSs. Before Ruse, Eugen did a slick Command & Conquer clone called Act of War. And now they’ve come full circle, bringing that same level of spirited presentation, spectacular graphics, and sleek gameplay to a distinct historical period, presented with an addictive collectible gimmick. And they’ve even folded in the sort of features you don’t get in the usually glib action RTS genre. So it turns out that Wargame: European Escalation isn’t just good. It’s also unique.

Wargame: European Escalation won’t set any new benchmarks, but it’s a good RTS game with a strong community. A couple thousand players are usually online during peak hours, and thousands of sessions are run every day, so there’s no doubt you’ll find people to play with. It’s fun, competitive, and features short sessions that normally last under a half-hour. If you’re an RTS gamer looking for a new battlefield, you’ll definitely want to give Wargame a try.

If you are expecting a Shogun 2: Total War visual experience, you will be left wanting, but the DirectX 11 effects in Wargame allow a nice visual sheen that is aesthetically pleasing without being too overwhelming. Strategy games are never about the visuals, however; they’re about the tactics and gameplay. If you put enough time and effort into them, you will find Wargame a rewarding and enjoyable experience, with plenty for the casual gamer and the purist to enjoy. Breaking the trend of modern RTS games that are flawed or simply unsavoury to play, Wargame is an excellent game, and one you would do well to pick up if you feel like starting a war.

Náročná strategie pro náročné stratégy, která však uchvátí i relativního nováčka žánru. I přes drobné problémy s cenou určitých sil a možná až příliš rozsáhlým výběrem jednotlivých modelů jednotek, se jedná o netradiční a hlavně zábavný titul, jenž na dlouhou dobu chytne a nepustí.

Wargame European Escalation è un buon titolo strategico-tattico, consigliato a tutti gli amanti della guerra contemporanea che si trovano a loro agio più con i mezzi corazzati che con i duelli all'arma bianca. Garantite dall'assenza della parte strategica di costruzione della base e della raccolta di risorse, l'immediatezza e la velocità d'esecuzione del pur complesso gameplay sono accompagnate da una grande profondità sia dal punto di vista della cura dei singoli dettagli (riproduzione di mezzi di ogni tipo), sia dal punto di vista tattico, con varie opzioni a disposizione di ognuno per portare avanti il proprio gioco. A ciò si unisce un ottimo motore grafico, potente e scalabile, capace di dare vita a battaglie su mappe enormi. Punto focale del gioco è poi l'ottima ed interessante modalità multiplayer, molto incentrata sulla competitività, grazie al suo sistema di leghe e livelli e che attirerà sicuramente la maggior parte dei giocatori.

Se avete apprezzato R.U.S.E. e World in Conflict allora Wargame: European Escalation è lo strategico giusto per voi. Assieme a un comparto tecnico superlativo vi è un gameplay diverso dal solito ed estremamente piacevole che predilige il realismo ed esalta i guerrafondai con la grande varietà di mezzi a disposizione. Il titolo è minato però da una campagna in singolo giocatore non eccessivamente coinvolgente e un multiplayer, vero e proprio zoccolo duro su cui poggia l'intero titolo, valido sì, e pure molto ampio, ma non eccellente: non sarà certo questo titolo a farvi staccare da Starcraft II o Company of Heroes. Complessivamente molto buono ma non quel capolavoro che sarebbe potuto essere con una maggior cura e rifinitura o qualche idea brillante in più.

Especially with the impressive multiplayer mode, I can strongly recommend Wargame: European Escalation as an expert and innovative blend of the best of the wargame genre with the best of the RTS.

Wargame: European Escalation is een frisse RTS geworden met interessante gameplay elementen die het strategisch genie van de speler naar boven halen. Het grootste struikelblok voor de game is meteen ook de grootste troef: de meer dan 300 verschillende eenheden zijn een waar kluwen voor wie zich er niet in wil verdiepen, maar voor de hardcore strategy gamer levert dit stof voor eindeloos gevarieerde gevechten. Voor spannende plottwists hoeven we de game niet te kopen, maar de game komt dan ook pas echt tot zijn recht in de multiplayermodus. Met Wargame: European Escalation levert Eugene Systems een zeer leuke strategy game af, die vooral de meer ervaren spelers van het genre zal aanspreken.

Wydawało mi się, że widowiskowe bitwy najlepiej wypadną w sieci, tutaj jednak, oprócz dłużących się walk na wyniszczenie, emocji brakuje a podczas meczów często zdarzało mi się, że inni gracze po prostu rezygnowali z zabawy. Wargame zimna wojna spodoba się raczej nielicznym. którzy lepiej niż World in Conflickt wspominają wymagające cierpliwości pierwsze odsłony Combat Mission.

Wargame er elegant design, ambition, cinematiske eksplosioner og et kompromisløst multiplayerspil, der belønner strategi, rigtig strategi, og ikke flest museklik i minuttet. Den gradvise opbygning af ens hær mistænker jeg for at være en feature, som man enten vil elske eller hade, men uanset hvilken lejr man ender i, er det ikke bare et godt spil, men et unikt et af slagsen. Og det er som bekendt efterhånden en sjældenhed.

Pěkně poctivá hardcore strategie pro zkušenější znalce žánru se v dobré kondici, byť v průměrném technickém zpracování, vrací k možnému konfliktu dvou politických přesvědčení. I když tu prim hraje hlavně motivující multiplayer, ani střídmější sólo kampaň se neztratí, když její kvality tvoří hlavně nebývale obří nabídka bojujících jednotek a solidní AI protivníků.

I enjoyed playing Wargame: European Escalation and it whets my appetite for a more detailed tactical simulation of the period. The controls are pretty basic and the simulation simply enough to allow you to jump into the action. The lack of a scenario editor severely limits the long term enjoyment of the single-player mode, so if you have no interest in online, multiplayer gaming, consider skipping this title.

Was habe ich in den ersten Minuten geflucht: Die klobige Menüführung ist ein Graus, die ausnehmend flachen Karten sind weit von einem optischen Leckerbissen entfernt und selbst die Erteilung einfachster Befehle gerät unnötig kompliziert. Kaum hatte ich mich aber an diese Macken gewöhnt, war ich plötzlich hin und weg von den taktischen Optionen, welche die unglaublich große Zahl von Einheiten und simulierten Details ermöglicht. Im Mehrspielermodus werde ich deshalb noch eine ganze Weile Krieg spielen und versuchen, in der Rangliste aufzusteigen — sofern die Entwickler in naher Zukunft wie versprochen schönere Maps und weitere Spielmodi nachliefern!

Was für eine Ernüchterung! Da habe ich mich im Vorfeld auf ein anspruchsvolles Kriegsspiel in unverbrauchtem Szenario gefreut, aber das war verfrüht: Die Kampagne ist schrecklich steril, die Präsentation nur Mittelmaß, die Steuerung fummelig und die Gefechte im Gelände können nur kurzfristig motivieren, lassen aber langfristig zu viele Wünsche offen, die in diesem Genre längst Standard sind. Obwohl man an der Oberfläche vieles richtig macht, obwohl Sichtlinien und Deckung, Munition und Treibstoff eine Rolle spielen, will kein authentisches militärisches Flair entstehen. Da fühlt sich vieles zu oberflächlich an, sowohl hinsichtlich der Inszenierung, des teilweise dummen Computerverhaltens als auch der eingeschränkten Truppenführung. Gegen das kreative und hinsichtlich des Artdesigns markanteren R.U.S.E. wirkt Wargame wie ein Prototyp, dem noch ein Jahr Entwicklungszeit fehlt.

Wargame: European Escalation ist kein Strategiespiel, das man mal eben so zwischendurch spielt. Es erfordert Zeit zur Einarbeitung wie auch Zeit zur Umsetzung, Taktik und eine gute Planung, um nicht nur erfolgreich zu sein, sondern auch möglichst wenig Verluste zu erleiden. Das Stein-Schere-Papier-Prinzip funktioniert hier sehr gut und auch das Mikromanagement wurde ansprechend umgesetzt, allerdings mangelt es hier und da an Komfortfunktionen wie Formationen, die man mit mehr Zeit hätte integrieren können. Ebenso hätte mehr grafischer Feinschliff nicht geschadet und die Kampagne könnte etwas mehr Emotionen vertragen, anstatt das Ganze steril und trocken zu präsentieren. Im Gegensatz dazu präsentiert sich der Multiplayer-Part mit seinen taktischen und spannenden Gefechten als wahrer Star des Spiels.
