We're impressed and perhaps you might think we're a little shallow for liking the new elements and the big action feel. The game entertains us, it has a 4th unlockable campaign and a massive amount of content across the 3 other campaigns, with tons of unlockable skill perks for your characters to play with. There are other hidden secrets and content to unlock, so the game is pretty much superb value for money compared to a 6 hour shooter. Resident Evil had to change, there's no way it could remain the same and compete with Dead Space in the same market ... but you might not feel that way, you might think it's the worst game ever made - you'll be missing out in that respect because regardless of the focus change in terms of action, the game is a solid and fun experience, it entertains and can get downright creepy. So we are going to stick to our guns in terms of the game and say: we like it a lot.

Resident Evil 6 is once again not the same game that many first fell in love with fifteen years ago, which will be disappointing for those that have long been seeking a game that has more in common with its roots. Nevertheless, there’s a strong offering here that embraces the action genre more than ever before, but its executed to a high enough degree for it to be one of the best of its ilk.

I always say this, but it bears repeating: Anything Leon stars in is pure gold. This is no exception.

Ada Wong says it best when she quips that Resident Evil 6 is like a Raccoon City reunion. And despite frequent attempts at recapturing the magic of the early days, the series continues to walk the path towards becoming just another great action game. With its old identity stripped away you've left with a massive action game that tends to check all the boxes instead of creating new ones, yet measured against its contemporaries it remains near the top of its class. Big, brash, and full of memorable moments, Resident Evil 6 deserves to be played by any fan of the action genre.

Game Informer Magazine (8.75 out of 10)

Over the years, the tone of the Resident Evil series has morphed from a George Romero horror flick to Michael Bay summer blockbuster. That metamorphosis into insane action is front and center in Resident Evil 6, and bringing a buddy along for the chaos is great fun. The game’s minor flaws don’t hold back the decadent experience from being an unhinged, flaming rollercoaster ride.

Still, Resident Evil 6 is an accomplished shooter on the whole, and a fittingly thunderous send-off for current gen Resident Evil. The next instalment needs to tighten the focus, deciding which ideas are worth sticking with, but this could be the definitive videogame blockbuster - huge, colourful and surprising.

Evolution and ambition are only natural for a franchise as old as Resident Evil, as is the need to respect a long-lasting legacy and the fans that have come to appreciate it. But in trying to serve all masters, Resident Evil 6 loses focus and fails to accurately assess which of its elements are truly worthy of being included. When this game is at its height, it sets new standards for the series in every way. Unfortunately, there are no shortage of lows either, taking what could have been an excellent experience and making it something considerably lesser.

Resident Evil 6 is a truly immense RE title that succeeds as a third-person action shooter, but falls flat on its face as a survival horror game. Yes, times have changed, but if Dead Space can still provide a good balance of scares and set-pieces, then why can't Resi? Here's hoping that Capcom sees the next-generation of consoles as a golden opportunity to take Resident Evil back to its roots. Or perhaps a reboot is in order. Until then, Resident Evil 6 is certainly not a bad game by any means, just a bit of a disappointment. Nonetheless, it'll still get its slimy hooks into you if you let it.

This is a very good game. There are a few flaws but if you compare this to Operation Raccoon City, well they don’t compare. This game is head and shoulders beyond that. It has lost that Resident Evil feel from the first few games in the series though. At times it feels like they are trying to go back to that, but some of the story prevents that in its entirety. The visuals are great, the sound is great, and if you are looking for a game to have fun with for a few weeks this is it. Don’t go in with expectations that this game is going to change the survival horror genre or any aspect of gaming because it won’t. This game is simply a fun game to kill zombies, find out about some of the conspiracies taking place and extend the life of seven characters. Pick this game up if you are a fan of the series, enjoy third person shooters, or are looking for a fun co-op game to play other than Borderlands 2.

Everything in Resident Evil 6 is bigger, louder, and prettier than its predecessors, but that does not necessarily make it a better game. While it finally embraces the adrenaline-fueled action the series has slowly moved toward for so long, the rest is a schizophrenic mess. Capcom can’t seem to decide whether Resident Evil is a campy blockbuster film (undoubtedly its greatest strength) or a serious reflection on the human condition. For all of our sakes, let’s hope it chooses the former for future editions.

So much of Resident Evil 6 is wonderful. The story is intense and ambitious, and the separate campaigns--and the way they interact with each other--is an achievement in interactive storytelling. Even the changes to the gameplay are strong, and you’ll likely spend a majority of the game enjoying the weird, unexpected ride that it takes you on. When you do run into issues, though, they’ll be related to the half measures taken in other areas of the gameplay, proving that flat-out abandoning some tropes while clinging on to others doesn’t always make for great sequels. Though rough around the edges, Resident Evil 6 is still a remarkable creature, and like the J’avo, it’s an interesting transformation, even if it’s not necessarily the prettiest one.

There are moments in RE6 that peak as high as the very best games in Resident Evil history, but there are so many more that settle for mediocrity or much, much worse. With a nip and tuck this could have been something very special indeed. Instead, it's a great little Leon campaign with a hell of a lot of content that you should consider a worthwhile but extremely flawed bonus.

Eurogamer.net (UK) (6 out of 10)

The game represents a tremendous amount of effort and investment and, for those impressed by such things, Resident Evil 6 may delight. But all the effort in the world won't make up for a lack of vision. This game is blind to imagination and focus. Capcom's uncertainty about the series' identity post-Mikami (and post-Uncharted) is hardcoded into its structure: four campaigns offering different, flawed expressions of that potential. And the inevitable price for this wavering is a lack of coherence. Resident Evil 6 is an unwieldy tribute to the series' past, an uneven expression of its present and an unwelcome indication of its future.

As value for money, this game is definitely worth it with four campaigns and two extra game modes to be exhausted. However, I don’t think that this was the game for which fans of the horror genre have been waiting.

RE6 delivers great graphics, but visuals can only drive an experience so far, and it doesn't take much to see the gameplay compromises made in the name of accessibility. To their credit, the developers have iterated on a survival horror concept and turned it into an inclusive and competently-made cooperative action game, but the end result feels far removed from the series' roots. RE6 presents blockbuster-caliber entertainment, sure, but it also forces you to revisit rough portions of gameplay and rarely challenges a player outside of arbitrary difficulty levels and cheap deaths via phoned-in quick-time events. The unfortunate truth is that Capcom hasn't figured out a new way to terrify gamers in the eight years since RE4. While building on that game's masterful formula of stop-and-pop gunplay is a smart approach, RE6 serves as proof that too many compromises and too much empowerment can ultimately erode what makes Resident Evil, at its core, work.

Realistically, the greatest praise you can give a game shouldn't be, “It works!” For a game built on a legacy, Resident Evil 6 seems hardly qualified of its namesake. Between counterproductive design choices, a convoluted story, and every-other-game-does-a-shooter-but-better approach, 6 is evidence the series could use a break for awhile and maybe a reboot when it's appropriate. It's playable if you plug away enough to upgrade your skills, but suffering through to a “meh” outcome isn't fun or scary—it's barely passable.

In the search for Resident Evil's identity, Capcom seems to have given up and just thrown all of their ideas into the game and hoped for the best. The result is an ambitious but sloppy, tense but mislead blockbuster of a game that only serves to disappoint. There are moments in Resident Evil 6 that are new benchmarks for the series, but unfortunately, they're few and far between and Resident Evil 6 feels like a major letdown.

But how far can cinematics get you when the gameplay sandwiched between them is so poorly paced, so utterly misconceived, so reliant on stick wriggles and button tapping? There's a place for contextual prompts and cinematic storytelling in video games, but Resident Evil 6 is a mishmash of elements put together without any sense of care or direction. Series faithful might stumble through for the sake of story, and perhaps to appreciate those few moments that recall when Resident Evil was at its peak glory. But this long, poor sequel is the ultimate test of patience for even the most dedicated.

Giant Bomb ( )

At a glance, Resident Evil 6 is built on the basic blueprint of a good action game, swaddled in what must have been one of the most expensive productions in video game history. You could offer a lot of ifs about how to make this game better: if the fat were trimmed out in service of a shorter, tighter campaign; if the designers had drilled down more intently on one style of gameplay rather than trying to cover all of them; if the player's core interactions with the game were simply as refined as they should have been. But in the real world, we're left with what's in the box. It's hard to fathom how Resident Evil, which almost singlehandedly redefined the action genre just two installments ago, has now become such a strange, mediocre pastiche of the better games this series once inspired. What a bitter irony that is.

Anime News Network (D+)

Resident Evil 6 does have its hints of inspiration, like constantly mutating enemies who may become stronger, or more agile, or more resilient when you remove one of their limbs. It has a great idea in pairing you up with other players when storylines intersect, so that a 2 person game becomes a 4 person game, and the Chris you meet when playing as Leon is not an NPC, but an actual person somewhere out there who happened to be at the same boss fight at the same time. Enthusiasm for these things is difficult to muster, stultified by the conga line of scripted events. Interesting segments exist, but they are in tiny bits and pieces, and the rest of the game is the part where you think "thank god that's over, I never want to do that again."

In fact, it’s a sad state of affairs overall. The Resident Evil series has been on a roll, from 3 to 4 to 5 to Mercenaries to Revelations. Even the uneven Operation Raccoon City had a lot to love. But Resident Evil 6 is noisy, sloppy, busy, bloated, tedious, and ultimately too familiar to even appreciate for the usual ridiculousness. Where’s my copy of Resident Evil 5?
