Es ist immer fies ein Spiel mit den Vorgängern zu vergleichen, gerade wenn man die Entwickler gewechselt hat, wie bei der Silent-Hill-Reihe zum Beispiel auch. Das muss aber nunmal sein, da Fans hohe Erwartungen haben. Mich als Gothic-Fan hat Arcania – The Complete Tale enttäuscht. Es fühlt sich nicht mehr an wie früher und wirkt für mich auch eher wie ein nutzloses Spin-Off, um die Kuh weiter zu melken. Und dennoch kann ich dem Spiel keine sehr schlechte Gesamtwertung geben, da es als selbstständiges Rollenspiel nicht so schlecht ist. Es macht doch irgendwo Spaß, ist aber auch von dieser Perspektive betrachtet garantiert kein Verkaufsschlager. Am meisten stört mich jedoch die einfallslose Story und die oberflächlichen Charaktere, die ich vor Jahren mal geliebt habe. Fans brauchen das Spiel definitiv nicht zu beachten, Rollenspieler könnten vielleicht doch Spaß daran finden, wenn sie sich mal darauf einlassen.

Why a fourth-rate action RPG was remade this many times, and upconverted, and then uploaded to servers for people to buy and play, is baffling. The only conceivable reason I can see this being remade now is for people who want Witcher 3, but were somehow voodoo cursed into buying this tripe. Pass. Pass this game on all counts and go play Witcher 3.

Arcania – The Complete Game isn’t the worst RPG I’ve ever played, but it’s certainly not a good one. If you’re in the market for a Diablo clone or a platinum that will only take two dozen hours (a fraction of the time it usually takes for a RPG), Arcania might be worth your time especially with the low budget price tag. Just be prepared for a nonsensical plot, horrible graphics, a lot of bugs and extremely easy battles where magic is so overpowered your can lightning bolt even the final boss in less time than it takes to play a round of Street Fighter II.
