Ultimately, a game, not matter how good, is still just a game. It simply can't replicate the sensations of driving a real car, and is thus no direct replacement for the thrill of real-life racing. However, for the time being it’s about as close as you can get and for a fraction of the cost of doing just one track day. We love it.

But, seeing as there are other factors at play, like actually progressing the franchise, and impressing graphically, and not reusing sound effects, it’s perhaps best to call Gran Turismo 6 a successful, if modest, addition to a wonderful franchise. And there is something to be said for the thrill of thinking you could feasibly put hundreds of hours into this game and still have new cars to unlock. Replay value here is through the roof, but if you didn’t get that into playing it the first time, it might not be for you.

Polyphony Digital's love for cars has always been clear, but it's always felt a little cold and mechanical. The result is a massive, passionate game and a fitting final lap for the PlayStation 3.

The series has a storied history with a vast fan base that has been rewarded time and again with great games that bring hours upon hours of true-to-life racing. Gran Turismo 6 adds to that history and brings with it many more hours of joyful racing and hearty competition, and is truly out of this world. While Gran Turismo 6 isn’t as groundbreaking as it’s predecessor on the PS3, it’s still a worthy addition to any GT fans’ library.

And I will even go along with particular arguments, especially in regards to the lack of penalizing aggressive bumping. The sound isn’t quite right, either. GT6 is not the full-on mind-boggling masterpiece it could’ve been. But it remains a mammoth achievement because fans can tell, within seconds, just how much TLC has been put into this production. Into every GT production, in truth. That’s what separates this franchise from any other and if you know cars and racing, you’ve been saying this for years. And I’ve got your back.

Gran Turismo 6 è un gioco a dir poco enorme, destinato tra l'altro a crescere ed evolversi grazie ai tanti DLC (gratuiti o meno) e alle varie patch che Polyphony Digital ha intenzione di rilasciare, proprio come quella del day one. Il titolo traspira passione da ogni angolo e può essere considerato come la più completa enciclopedia di automobilismo virtuale mai realizzata, un vero e proprio tributo al mondo delle quattro ruote. Le macchine ed i tracciati vi terranno impegnati per ore ed ore, la carriera è estremamente godibile, garantendo al contempo progressione e varietà senza essere "stringente" e l'interfaccia finalmente ripensata con cognizione di causa. Tra l'altro le correzioni apportate al gameplay si fanno sentire, ed elementi come le condizioni meteo variabili, la fisica rimodellata sulle sospensioni e i pneumatici, nonché il modello di guida migliorato rendono di fatto Gran Turismo 6 un gioco piacevole e realistico, ancorché non simulativo, da questo punto di vista.

The simplification of the GUI, the easier, faster and better career mode and the inclusion of a bigger deeper online component make GT6 one of the best in the series. It’s definitely a fantastic way to say goodbye to the PS3 and gives hope of greatness for the future of the series. Once again, Gran Turismo's biggest weakness is its inconsistency. Its best parts are so great that it's shocking to come across elements that are so far below standard. Still, many of its faults are purely cosmetic. Where the rubber meets the road, it's still fantastic. The interface is far more intuitive, and the career is flexible and well-paced. It's the diversity that wins out overall, and with creative initiatives like Vision GT and the lunar missions, Gran Turismo 6 brings more variety than anyone else can match.

There are a few things here and there that can become nagging at times, but for all intents and purposes, Gran Turismo 6 is a fantastic racing game that fans of both racing and the series should check out.

Voor de gemiddelde gamer zijn dit soort onvolkomenheden misschien moeilijk te verkroppen, maar draag je auto's en de omliggende cultuur ook maar een lauwwarm hart toe dan is het moeilijk om niet betoverd te raken door de eindeloze mogelijkheden die GT6 biedt om auto's, circuits en omstandigheden met elkaar te combineren. Bovendien zit er nog veel meer in de pijplijn, zoals de eerder genoemde auto's en opties, maar ook activiteiten vanuit een samenwerking met Red Bull en een eerbetoon aan de legendarische coureur Ayrton Senna, die in mei 2014 precies twintig jaar geleden verongelukte. Totdat al deze en meer zaken GT6 bereiken, is er gelukkig meer dan genoeg om je mee te vermaken.

Gran Turismo 6 is the best in the series to date. It improves on many areas that have held the series back, but it still has lingering problems that should have been a thing of the past, which isn’t a discredit to what Polyphony Digital has achieved here. For the PS3, this is the end of the line in terms of big first party games, and it’s a solid ending. GT6 is one of the PS3's final swansong.

If you're keeping your PS3 and are looking for a good, casual racing game, you could do a lot worse that GT 6. If, on the other hand, you are moving to a PS4 and/or are looking for a good hardcore racing simulation, give this one a pass.

Simulationsfans bekommen dafür noch einen Tick mehr Realismus geboten: So ist das Schalten nun anspruchsvoller, und die Abstimmung zwischen Reifen und Fahrwerk wirkt sich deutlicher aus. Obendrein gibt es noch mehr Autos und Strecken freizuspielen; für monatelangen Spielspaß ist also gesorgt. Ansonsten ist das hier „Gran Turismo“, wie man es kennt und liebt – oder eben hasst.

In the end though, Gran Turismo 6 s all about tradition. The default controls still map the accelerate and brake prompts to the face buttons like it's 1998, you're not rewarded (at all) for winning races without driving assists enabled, and the AI is all artifice and zero smarts... but this is a robust and ludicrously generous Christmas gift for the genre faithful. It is fundamentally not an innovative package, and hopefully Polyphony Digital will decide to make a few significant steps towards the future next time. But this is an enthusiast's dream and very much the game that series veterans have always wanted it to be. A slightly rusty old banger perhaps, but also the most reliable motor in town.

With a massive number of cars, the gorgeously-realized tracks and the love for motor vehicles apparent in each facet of Gran Turismo 6, it's hard to imagine a more comprehensive racing game. The problem, however, lies not in what Gran Turismo 6 does right, but how little it's improved since the last entry in the series. There are more cars, granted, and the feeling of speed and tinkering with vehicles is as good as ever, but that's to be expected given how little has changed. Don't get me wrong, Gran Turismo was already the top of the heap when it comes to hardcore console racing simulations – the additions presented in Gran Turismo 6 just push the top of that heap a few feet higher.

For fans of racing simulators, Gran Turismo 6 is as good as ever and arguably remains the gold standard of the genre. There’s over a thousand cars, thirty-seven tracks and tons of events. All of that combined with deep tuning results in an experience with huge lasting appeal. Unfortunately, it’s too long in the tooth for its own good. Playing it after experiencing Forza Motorsport 5 makes it feel like, well, going back a console generation. The mechanics and features are as impressive as ever, but now that we’ve seen what cars can look like on the current generation of consoles, it’s hard going back. Still, it’s hard to fault the game for being released too late and it remains another thoughtful, expertly crafted racing experience. It will be an exciting day when we get to experience the series on PS4, but for now, Gran Turismo 6 is a a fine stopgap for fans of realistic racing.

More of a driving sim and less of a racing game, Gran Turismo 6 is the cream of the crop. It's an easy game to hop into for a single race or plant yourself in front of for hours on end. They've added some interesting features but at its heart it hasn't changed much from the last release.

Gran Turismo 6 feels like a last-generation model car with premium parts. It's certainly no slouch, but there's only so much room left for improvement, where an upgrade would finally mean moving to the most current edition. The Forza Motorsport series has been moving in the right direction for the last decade, whereas the Gran Turismo series seems like it's stagnating despite several minor improvements. Polyphony needs to reexamine the programming behind AI, damage modeling, and online integration by the next installment on the PlayStation 4. Anything short of that will be a disappointment, but for now, the effort is more than acceptable.

Gran Turismo 6 is a very good racing game that simultaneously improves upon its predecessor and fails to live up the high standards set by the series. The car handling is still the best in class, the races have a good variety, the car tuning options are unsurpassed, and the game is an overall joy to race. The large number of cars and tracks are marred by their subpar appearance. The car effects still can't compete with its contemporaries, and the AI is too robotic. This is still a great game for car simulation lovers, but if the series continues to throw in new elements without improving on older ones before its PS4 debut, the audience might not be as forgiving.

Gran Turismo 6 is een titel waar de meningen enorm van kunnen verschillen. Polyphony heeft op diverse fronten verbeteringen doorgevoerd, maar toch lijkt het erop dat er soms is gekozen voor kwantiteit boven kwaliteit. Dit zie je terug in de auto’s en het geluid; het is vrijwel een op een overgenomen. Op andere fronten is de game er wel flink op vooruit gegaan. Gran Turismo 6 is a great driving game, and none of its inconsistencies with its presentation stops it from being that. It supplies a huge amount of content and variety, thanks to its vast range of vehicles and tracks, along with a fantastic driving physics model that isn’t touched by any other game on the PlayStation 3. The problem is that Polyphony Digital doesn’t seem to be addressing all the problems that people have issues with, such as the sound design, which pops a hole in the game’s overall quality. Even so, you’re still left with a game that showers you with love for automobiles; becoming a game that one can easily get immersed in with like-minded developers, who obviously love to take a car out for a spin. Gran Turismo 6 is a nice farewell for Sony’s ageing hardware, as the company begins to move to the new generation of console gaming.

Gran Turismo 6 (GT6) is a perfect game for PS3 owners with a yen for speed, variety, and creativity. It includes a course maker, allowing you to design and share your own race circuit. Der sechste Teil beginnt, wo der fünfte Teil aufgehört hat. Was beim Vorgänger noch lange Zeit gedauert hat und viele große Patches bedeutete, ist hier von Anfang an mit dabei. Eine realere Rennsimulation wird man auf der PlayStation 3 wohl nicht finden. Einen allzu großen Sprung zum Vorgänger sollte man in „Gran Turismo 6“ aber nicht erwarten. Für eingefleischte Rennfreunde sollte allein die überarbeitete Fahrphysik einen Kaufgrund darstellen, auch wenn das fehlende Schadenssystem die eigene Fahrweise im Karriere-Modus stark beeinflusst. Spätestens im Online-Modus erlebt man aber die gewünschte Realitätsnähe.

La versione finale dell’ultima fatica di Kazunori Yamauchi ha confermato le luci e le molte ombre che purtroppo ci aspettavamo. La carriera è profonda, variegata, ben strutturata e coinvolgente. Il sistema meteo dinamico e il ciclo giorno/notte aggiungono ulteriore immersione e realismo, mentre le migliorie in termini di fisica della vettura e gestione delle sospensioni fanno segnare un passo in avanti al modello di guida. Purtroppo però il sistema di danni appena abbozzato, le collisioni ridicole, un’intelligenza artificiale troppo mansueta e il solito fastidiosissimo effetto trenino minano pesantemente l’esperienza di gioco offerta da Gran Turismo 6, etichettandola come l’ennesima occasione persa.

Was nützen die hervorragende Fahrphysik, der gigantische Umfang, die zahlreichen Tuning-Optionen, Tag-/Nachtwechsel, dynamisches Wetter und meine geliebte Nordschleife, wenn ich die Rennen als solche bei dieser katastrophalen KI nicht mehr ernstnehmen kann? Am meisten Spaß habe ich mit GT6, wenn ich alleine über die Strecken brettere und das fantastische Fahrgefühl genieße. Oder in den sauberen Online-Duellen mit aktiviertem Strafsystem. Trotzdem geht es mir ein bisschen so wie mit Forza Motorsport 5: Müsste ich mich entscheiden, würde ich auch hier lieber zum Vorgänger greifen, dessen Entwicklung im Gegensatz zu GT 6 mittlerweile auch abgeschlossen ist. Und der ganz nebenbei noch frei von Mikrotransaktionen ist, obwohl man sich hier trotz einiger unverschämter Preise und Designanpassungen zum Glück noch zurückhält. Hoffentlich wird das in Zukunft wieder komplett abgeschafft.

If Sony wants to get serious with racing simulators on their new system, they're going to be left with an uncomfortable choice: either let Polyphony Digital take a few years to recreate cars and tracks worthy of the new console, or just keep the old ones like, as limited in look and feel as they are on the PS3, and port them to the new one for a quick Gran Turismo 7 release like they've partially done with the last two games. That's not an easy choice to make. If you're stuck on the current gen for a while and can't do without the latest racing sim release, go for GT6; if you're not that into it, you can safely skip GT6 and go next-gen soon instead.

Wrestling a car around a track feels better in Gran Turismo 6 than it does in any other PlayStation game, but in reaching such new heights for its handling model, the series neglects significant and long-standing problems that remain on its to-do list. Polyphony needs to play the post-release period even better than it did with GT5 in order to preserve the prestige of its brand, because right now there’s a new generation of gamer popping in the disc and wondering what all the fuss was about. Pořád zdaleka nejrozsáhlejší a nejslavnější automobilová simulace vůbec. Další superlativy si však nezaslouží. Umí pobavit, umí ohromit, ale neumí zakrýt, že je na ní práce jak na kostele. Pro hardcore fanoušky je to opět jasná volba, ale mainstreamoví závodníci budou stejně často kroutit spíš hlavou než volantem.

It's those little niggles that make Gran Turismo 6 feel so incredibly dated compared to its rivals. Yes, it's nice to have that attention to detail poured into the physics simulation itself, but when the likes of Forza are heaping on the features, it's hard not to feel shortchanged by GT6's lack of vision. Maybe we'll see the makeover the series sorely needs when it inevitably hits the PS4, but until then, Gran Turismo 6 remains a fantastic simulation; it's just not a great game.

Gran Turismo er ikke længere den superstjerne det engang var, for vi lader os ikke alle længere imponere af massevis af biler og fin polygongrafik, ligesom de fleste af os heller ikke længere synes puddelrock-hår og Def Leppard er det hotteste hotte. Verden er et andet sted i dag, og det er genren også.

Tyvärr är så inte fallet då Gran Turismo 6 känns som en slö, slentrianmässig expansion som dessvärre lider av flertalet ordentliga problem. Polyphony försöker att lyckas med så många delar, men sätter samtidigt käppar i sina egna hjul. Gran Turismo sitter fast i slutet av 90-talet och jag tänker inte knussla med sanningen längre - det här är inte bra.
