Operation Blockade

The Good
The graphics are okay - not great, but one can live with them. Sound's nothing to be too ashamed of either - it's mostly gun sound so nothing spectacular is missed if you turn it off. Controls are working without flaws (hey, that's something positive here!)

The Bad
Boring.

Boring! Yes. Boring. You sit in your gun turret, rotate around the clock till you are dizzy and shoot everything that moves. And turn. And shoot. And turn. And shoot. Oh, maybe you switch weapons because the anti-ship gun doesn't do damage to anything else than ships - well, that's it! All the "mission briefings" are null and void, fake -- in each and every single mission, you just - turn and shoot. Sometimes there are more enemies, sometimes less. But that doesn't matter to you, as you just turn and shoot, turn and shoot, in eternity.

And I ask you: does this sound like a fun game?

No, it's really not neccessary to answer my question. It really isn't - as long as you answered it correctly for yourself.

The Bottom Line
Turn and shoot? No! Run! Run away from this hell Infogrames created for their helpless, game-seeking victims!

The Good
saw this game at EB - read a few good (and not so good reviews) thought what the heck it's only 20 buck. now i have to admit...I FREAKING LOVE THIS GAME!!! the graphics are good - about as good as your gonna get in a pc game but the effects and more so the sound just about knocked me out of my chair. if you have ever played Beachhead than you know basically how the games played (more on this in a minute) but in OB they have added a few clever twists in the form of airstrikes - you have got to see the dogfights in action - i get a little giddy everytime i watch one of my "boys" take down a messerschmitt.

The Bad
as i said before this games plays basically just like BH. you are positioned in a turret in the middle of a tiny pacific island and...that's it. apart from being able to turn in a circle and look up and down you cannot move. maybe i've been playing to many fps but this (at first) bugged the crap out of me. as i got used to the game i forgot all about it - but really now, let us move around a little. that's what 3D is all about, isn't it?

The Bottom Line
this game isn't going to consume your life for the next two months but it will defiantly kill a few nights maybe a week. (i'm about thirty+ missions in and i've logged around 10-15 hours so far...oh yes...and it's getting very hard) super addictive game play - think 80's arcade games that you can't stop feeding quarters into - and at a measley 20 bucks it's a whole lot cheaper.
