Enemy Front lands in that unfortunate middle area where its faults aren't bad enough to leave a painfully lasting negative impression, but its key moments are too generic to be memorable. At a party 10 years from now, I'll suddenly recall the V2 rocket sabotage mission or the Warsaw siege chapter, yet I will have forgotten what game these scenes were from. It will drive me mad for the rest of the night, since it's unlikely anyone will pop up and say, "You're thinking about Enemy Front." And even if someone did chime in with the correct answer, I might not be convinced it was that game. That's the impression Enemy Front makes.

Enemy Front promised a new experience, and it certainly gave me that, but definitely not in the way the developers intended. From the start it rapidly became a hot mess of glitches, poor quality environments and down right stupid AI. I truly have no intention of ever repeating my experience of Enemy Front, much less playing it online, which is a sad thing to say when the market is crying out for a decent World War II shooter. You may find the campaign of some interest if this was looking up at you from the bottom of the bargain bin, other than that, save your cash for more worthy titles.

Wer 2014 den virtuellen Zweiten Weltkrieg erleben will, sollte dringend auf alte Call of Dutys oder das bessere Wolfenstein: The New Order zurückgreifen.

A completely unremarkable WWII shooter with more bugs than Pixar's second feature film. There's nothing offensive about it, it's just subpar in every possible way, from AI to controls to visuals to voice acting. Feels like a launch window 360 game.

(...) Enemy Front really is a poor game, and one not worth diving into. There are simply too many problems, from aesthetics right down to the basic mechanics, that sully the gaming experience. A lot of people bemoan COD and Battlefield for their annual assault on the industry and their perceived unwillingness to innovate, but there's no denying how tight the majority of these entries to their franchises are. CI Games has held a magnifying glass to these popular franchises, borrowed what it wants and failed to implement any of the ideas effectively.

Enemy Front is a bad game on almost every level, but it gives me no pleasure to report that. It's not a lazy game, as you can see the developer trying as hard as it can to mimic the juggernauts that dominate the genre, but nor does it show enough personality or ambition to break out of the tired old paradigms. It's not even as if it can claim to be reviving the wartime shooter sub-genre, sandwiched as it is between the vastly superior Wolfenstein: The New Order and the incoming Sniper Elite 3. If you have the urge to mow down digital Nazis, there are far, far better ways of scratching that itch than with Enemy Front.
