Aeon Command
Description
Aeon Command is a 2D real-time strategy game played from a side view and set on a single movement plane in space. It has design elements similar to the Galcon and Gratuitous Space Battles series. Matches take place in a large horizontal area with a mothership on each side. A game is generally won by destroying the enemy mothership. Units cannot be controlled directly, instead the player controls resource management, ship construction, upgrades, and the gameplay can be influenced through certain abilities. These are all shown as icons near the bottom of the screen.
Ships are constructed by gathering minerals by sending out miners to nearby asteroids. Each mothership has a maximum of ten miners. Diamonds can also be spent on the construction of up to seven different types of ships, usually unlocked gradually. Diamonds can also be spent on research for ship upgrades. The second resource is bolt, used to activate one of three abilities. The final resource is gear. Gear is gathered during gameplay and provided afterwards based on the performance, but is spent after matches on permanent perks. Bolt and gear are found by destroying enemies ships. Icons appear and these can be clicked to gather them. Once ships have been constructed they are sent out and move on their own, approaching and engaging the enemy.
The campaign mode consists of 24 missions divided over three factions: Alliance, Cyborgs and Exiles. The gameplay is similar for each faction, but they have access to different kinds of ships, upgrades and abilities. Abilities can be used to influence the gameplay directly. The Alliance for instance can activate repair; the player marks an area and then all ships in that area have damage repaired for a short while. Each mission usually has specific goals next to destroying the other mothership. From the main menu collected gear is spent on permanent upgrades, either for perks that affect all factions, or bonuses for a specific faction. The game supports head-to-head online multiplayer for all supported platforms independent of the OS. There are also local skirmish matches against a computer-controlled player with various modifiers and difficulty levels.
