En un mot, un jeu fort sympathique. Le titre a certes vieilli et peut paraître répétitif voire enfantin, mais il conserve un charme indéniable et reste l’un des meilleurs jeux de stratégie pour deux joueurs de cette époque.

På toppen av det hele har spillet muligheter for 2-spiller, slik at du og bestekameraten din kan begge få nyte godt av underholdningen og en dose amerikansk historie i samme slengen. Nord og Sør, eller "North & South" kom på totalt 8 (!) forskjellige platformer, blant disse Dos og NES. Grafikken er flott og lyden superb med tanke på hvor lite spillet faktisk er (570kb). Happy krigføring!

Das Bürgerkriegs-Spektakel "North & South" auf dem PC unterscheidet sich kaum von der Amiga-Fassung. Nur die Grafik und der Sound sind etwas magerer.

Zwar ist die Grafik unter EGA witzig gezeichnet und der Sound aus dem PC-Piepser erstaunlich gut, aber langfristigen Spielspaß sucht man bei diesem Spiel mit der Lupe. Nachdem man alle humoristischen Gags und grafische Finessen gesehen hat, verliert »North & South« deutlich an Reiz. Das macht sich insbesondere dann stark bemerkbar, wenn Sie alleine gegen den Computer antreten. Wer mit einem Freund zusammen spielt, kann dem farbigen Schlachtengetümmel noch am meisten abgewinnen. Leider ist die Tastatursteuerung ziemlich unglücklich ausgefallen und sorgt für heillose Verwirrung. Und selbst, wer eine Maus oder einen Joystick an seinem PC hat, kommt ohne Tastatur nicht ganz aus.

Absolutely brilliant!

The Good
This game is the epitome of what made late '80s Amiga games great; take an essentially simple concept, decorate with great graphics and terrific music, throw in a bizarre twist and you've got yourself an addictive game that will last for decades. As proof I present myself - I still play this game (both PC and Amiga versions) to this day, 12 years later...
Graphics? Ya got it. Even on CGA the game looks awesome, but VGA is heartily recommended. Music? Yup - PC speaker, but still fun.
But most important: gameplay! Much ass does this game kick. Starting with the psuedo-strategic element (troop placement and movement is important, but not critical, to the game); then there's the excellent battle system -- the computer has an unfair edge? So what! It's stupid. Kick it in the nads! Add to the mix some interesting platform action when you take the train, a crazy indian that on occasion runs amock killing troops, a sailboat with reinforcements and a lightning cloud and you've got yourself one of the craziest and most addictive games ever to see the light of day on the PC.
In case you didn't get it, just play the game - it rocks!
