WayForward's Thor is truly remarkable, as it stands not only as a great movie-based game but an extremely competent one as well. Though at times the brawler gameplay does grow a bit stale, the designers introduced enough subtlety and energy to the combat that by the time you're tired of a level, you're facing off against a boss. Visually, the game is stunning, featuring some of the best world design and character animation I've seen in a while. If you're looking for a pure action game on a portable, it's tough to go wrong with Thor.

Thor – God of Thunder on the Nintendo DS is quite possibly the best movie game I have ever played. WayForward has managed to create a fantastic, classic 2D, side scrolling game which really shows that the Nintendo DS still has some tricks left up its sleeves. The visuals are excellent, the sound is great, and the gameplay is simply outstanding. You will have hours of fun playing this. Thor is easily one of the best action games on the DS, and is a must have for any fans of action games.

Thor: Il Dio del Tuono per Nintendo DS si presenta come un titolo piuttosto godibile per gli hardcore gamer, decisamente "vecchia scuola", ma al contempo soffre di alcuni dei limiti storici che affliggono il genere dei picchiaduro a scorrimento bidimensionali: la ripetitività dell'azione e la scarsa longevità. Splendido dal punto di vista tecnico, con una grafica bitmap di grande qualità per design e animazioni, il gioco è infatti dotato di un gameplay che cresce durante le prime fasi dell'avventura, attraverso l'acquisizione di nuove capacità per Thor, salvo poi "adagiarsi" e rimanere statico fino alla fine, costringendoci a martellare noiosamente i nemici fino a sfiancarli e poi ripetere l'operazione all'arrivo di ogni nuova ondata di creature malvagie. Si tratta comunque di un prodotto diverso dal solito per i possessori di Nintendo DS, che dovrebbero quantomeno dargli un'occhiata.

We salute WayForward's efforts here; in other hands, this could have been every bit as uninteresting as the prior Sega-published Marvel games. Instead, it's a surprisingly capable throwback to the 16-bit days, one that animates beautifully and offers combat that isn't totally brainless.

Thor: God of Thunder for DS won’t go down in the annals of history as one of its best games, and in a short span it will probably be all but forgotten. Even so, WayForward clearly aimed to put out something more than the cheap cash-in and in the process produced probably the best of the Thor games and one of the better movie tie-ins in recent memory. Those who like waves of enemies and good combat and want to dust off their DS won’t go wrong by taking a look at this one.

Souple comme un félin, Thor profite d'une animation sensas. Mais le dieu du tonnerre s’essouffle plus vite sur DS que sur Wii. Non seulement la panoplie de coups n'évolue pas au fil du jeu, mais l'action et les ennemis se répètent à l'identique d'un niveau à l'autre, sans beaucoup plus qu'un mode Survie pour prolonger la durée de vie relativement courte. Dommage, car avec une touche de Metroid ou de Castlevania, ce Thor aurait pu être divin.

There's also a mode called Frostgrinder Assault, in which you play through a brief and easy side mission undertaken by three characters during the story. Initially, there are three playable characters available for this mode, but you can unlock the option to play through this mode as almost any of the supporting Norse gods that appear in the story. Although the characters feel quite different from each other--Sif's swift swordplay is a far cry from Volstagg's ponderous axe swinging, for instance--there's little fun to be had in walking down a hallway and fighting off waves of trolls because the same mindless button mashing leads you to victory no matter which character you choose. Unfortunately, that mindless button mashing defines the majority of this experience. It has a few electrifying moments, but most of Thor is more of a light drizzle than a thunderstorm.

Calquée sur les beat'em all à l'ancienne, l'adaptation DS de Thor se noie dans une banalité qui aurait pu être évitée de bien des manières. Un travail plus poussé dans la gestion des environnements destructibles et un éventail renouvelé des talents du héros auraient par exemple permis de compenser le manque d'originalité de la progression. Faute de tout cela, Thor sur DS se retrouve bien vite à court d'arguments.
