Game Chronicles (9.9 out of 10)
Aggressive Inline is about as close to perfection as it gets and pretty much annihilates everything currently available in the genre. The gameplay is simple yet complex and quite addictive. The levels are so large they border on intimidating, yet it never gets dull exploring them thoroughly. And with a dozen skaters, hundreds of tricks, and infinite combinations of trick lines and combos, this is one of those rare games that has no end. Sure you can “complete” it, but you will never “finish” it.

All the right elements that make a great extreme sports title is present in Aggressive Inline and with hundreds of challenges and plenty of levels this is an investment worth the price of admission.

Aggressive Inline is definitely as good as any title in the extreme sports genre at the moment. The game is huge in scale (and there is a Park Editor to create your own levels if you eventually get bored), entertaining to play, a delight to control and difficult to put down. With the fourth instalment of the THPS series in the works Z-Axis have thrown down the gauntlet to Neversoft with Aggressive Inline and that can only be good news for fans of the genre.

Aggressive Inline raises the bar for the entire extreme sports genre. Huge levels, stunning graphics, and novel gameplay innovations mean that no future extreme title will be able to get away with a couple of bowls, a rail, and a handful of challenges. If your extreme gaming is becoming extremely predictable and tired, it might be time to lace up these skates.

So is it better than Tony Hawks? Well yes and no. It will take you longer to complete a single character - a LOT longer - but once you've finished everything with one there is nothing left to unlock, and therefore no point in going back and completing it with the others except to try out the unlocked special characters and the cheat codes tucked away in there. The graphics are less impressive but more bubbly, and the levels are considerably more impressive but also a bugger to find your way around at times. It's an excellent game but in the end you pay your money and take your choice!

If you love the extreme sports genre, this game is an absolute must. It's a ton of fun and will suck away so many hours all your friends will think you've died. Unless you don't have friends and then no one will notice except your dog who really needs to go walkies. Though the gameplay in is a little bit better than Hawk the little things AI is missing keep it from getting a higher mark.

Aggressive Inline doesn’t just offer stuff to do, but stuff to figure out. In between all the death-defying skating stunts, you’ll solve some tricky puzzles and challenges that offer a real sense of accomplishment, not to mention some unusual trick lines. Pro riders, licensed gear, and extremely large but dense indoor/outdoor levels (including an exclusive Xbox zoo) give the game a sense of scope and realism. You’ll discover tons of trick lines on every level, plus a few innovations you won’t find in other games (such as swinging around poles). There’s a nice tutorial, but if you’re familiar with action sports games at all, the controls will feel comfortable immediately.

Neversoft had teamed up with Activision to deliver Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, which eschewed skateboarding realism for fast, well-defined gameplay. And California-based Z-Axis had teamed up with Rockstar Games to develop a skateboarding game of their own, called Thrasher: Skate and Destroy. Thrasher had a similar goal-based, time-limited structure, but the gameplay and control were far more rooted in reality. Needless to say, the Tony Hawk series blew up and spawned an entire line of similar products for Activision. Z-Axis blossomed on its own, moving from Rockstar to Acclaim and moving from skateboarding to BMX biking by developing the deeper-than-most Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX series. Now, after a few years of moderate success, Z-Axis and Acclaim have branched out to inline skating with Aggressive Inline, an excellent game that both borrows from previous alternative sports games and sets out in a new direction that will more than likely be copied by future games.

Overall I found the game fun, there are a few unlockable characters and FMV sequences, but just not on the level of Tony Hawk or Dave Mirra BMX. I guess it’s because I just don’t think having wheels attached to your feet is as balls to the wall as skateboarding or BMX. I had fun playing it for the first 2 hours, but my interest went downhill (pun intended!) after that. Some of you will love it, others hate it, but that is the way with gaming today!

Aggressive Inline has made it to several of the Next Generation systems with some success. Though the control functions are different on the X-Box due to the way that the controller is built, the fun is still there no matter which of the versions that you’re playing. The amount of tricks and the sheer size of the stages should be enough for anyone to sink their teeth into while waiting for another extreme sports game to appear on the market. As it has been said before, you really don’t need a copy of this game if you already have it on another system such as the PS2 or the Game Cube. If you like the inline skating world and you like to score huge points with some pretty amazing tricks, then Aggressive Inline is your game no matter what system you find it on!

If you love extreme sports games, this is a no-brainer. Go and get the game. Even if you have no interest in inline skating you will find a lot to like here. It may not be the big name game that you have been waiting for, but as a filler game it is superb and hopefully the start of a very successful franchise.

The levels are huge, similar in size to Dave Mirra 2 but with a lot more to interact with, you can swing from poles to reach higher places and talking to people opens up plenty of challenges to keep you busy - completing every level in AI will take you an age, whether it'll keep you interested that long is the problem.

The main innovation in Aggressive Inline is the juice meter. Just as in Tony Hawk's, Aggressive Inline features a meter that fills up as you perform tricks. When it is full your top speed increases and your special tricks become available. This all sounds very Tony Hawk's-like, but the difference comes from a lack of time limit. In Aggressive Inline you can continue in the environment until your juice meter runs out, meaning that you can in theory skate forever.

The park builder is a nice, if notably tacked on feature and if the game has any flaw, it's that the action, as with most sport titles, can become mundane, tedious and repetitive despite the effort to throw in extended variation with an ample supply of over the top and varied challenges. Yet, even if you're not into what seems to be an extreme sports revolution these days with the media almost screaming alternative sports into our ears as the increasingly less rare sport of extreme inline skating becomes ever more popular you'll still find Aggressive Inline to be a solid, well crafted and rewarding game. Next to Hawk, it's the best extreme sports title on the Xbox.
