Also, the top-end VGA 386-based version is probably the best version of the lot, as it incorporates more map detail and a faster frame rate - but this is counteracted by a configuration screen which allows the player to sacrifice some graphic detail for a faster frame rate. Bomber strikes a perfect balance between simulation and heads-down pyrotechnic action and is, dare I say it, a must.

Fighter Bomber seems certain to elevate Vector Graphix to the big league of games development. They spent a long time on this one - and it certainly shows. The game gets the balance just right between convincing simulation and entertaining game. Highly recommended.

Although experienced computer pilots may have their complaints, all others can have nothing but praise for this game, and everyone will be impressed with the ground-breaking graphics techniques, which surely mark a new era in filled-in 3-D, as Starglider 2 did. Amazing graphics and fun gameplay mean this has more appeal than any other previous aircraft simulation - you owe it to yourself to give it a test flight.

Weder EGA-Grafik noch VGA-Bilder können den Piloten länger als ‘ne halbe Stunde vorm Screen wachhalten. Irgendwie ist die Animation auch hier nicht das Gelbe vom Ei, vom nervenstrapazierenden Sound einmal abgesehen. Beim Amiga bekommt man für ‘nen schwer verdienten Hunni ein Durchschnittsgame, das zwar Schwächen aufweist, aber durchaus für ‘ne Weile begeistern kann. Die PC-User werden dagegen noch etwas kräftiger zur Kasse gebeten und erhalten als Gegenwert dafür ein Game, das niemals den Anspruch stellen darf, seinem Preis gerecht zu werden.

Eine anspruchsvolle Simulation ist Fighter Bomber mit Sicherheit nicht. Wer aber ohne große spielerischen Ansprüche durch die Luft fliegen und ein bißchen Rumballern will, wird nicht schlecht bedient.

Nur leider ist das Fluggefühl recht unrealistisch, die Vektorgrafik wird zu langsam aufgebaut, und vor allem unterscheiden sich die einzelnen Flieger nicht allzusehr. Die Handhabung ist leicht, sie erinnert direkt an ein Actionspiel. Die verschiedenen Ausführungen sind weitgehend gleich; am besten schneidet die PC-Version auf einem schnellen (!) Rechner ab, noch spielbar, aber ganz schön abgespeckt ist die 64er Ausgabe. Insgesamt eher Anfängern zu empfehlen.

Modern naval fleet actions with an emphasis on "you-are-there" perspectives. Good graphics and game play do much to overcome certain historical inaccuracies (sacrificed for playability), but switching from bridge to bridge to effect changes can be an awkward experience.

Wer aber nur mal eben, ohne Realitätsansprüche. in der Gegend herumzuckeln will und mehr aufs Ballen als aufs Fliegen steht, der wird mit dem Programm gerade noch zufrieden sein. Alle anderen sollten von diesem Windei die Finger lassen.

Considered in the aggregate, Strike Aces is not a bad product; it simply did not live up to its potential in execution. Some portions, like the aforementioned in-flight refueling sequences, are quite good. As such, this product must be considered a "mixed bag," certain to appeal to die-hard computer aviators but not destined for greatness in the eyes of the general gaming public.
