Lara Croft: Relic Run
Description
Lara Croft: Relic Run is an endless runner starring Lara Croft, as a spin-off of the Tomb Raider series. Lara's friend Carter Bell disappeared in Cambodia, but he has left behind some relics that may provide a clue where he is. Lara has to run through ruins and jungle environments to collect clues and relics to discover his location.
The game uses many elements typical of the genre. Lara runs automatically and a swipe left or right makes her change lanes, to avoid obstacles or collect coins. Swiping down makes her slide and swiping up leads to a jump. The game's environment is randomized for each session, based on piecing together a number of sections in a random order. Many of the actions are acrobatic, including dives, parkour-like jumps, sliding down vines and bridges, wall running, riding in an ATV for a short while etc. There are also shooting sections where monsters need to be tapped to fire bullets. Next to small monsters there are huge creatures such as a T-Rex.
The relics that need to be collected are stored across sessions. Relics appear after five clues have been picked up. Coins are used to acquire and upgrade weapons, power-ups and boosters, outfits and new environments. Next to coins as a basic currency, gems are used as a premium one. In-app purchases include additional gems and starter packs based around weapons or outfits. Power-ups include coin magnets, clue boosters (clues count for twice the amount), more valuable coin trails, more frequent power-ups and a larger ammo cache. These appear in-game and do not always need to be bought. Most items can be upgraded multiple times. Weapons include dual pistols, a crossbow, a shotgun, dual SMGs, an assault rifle and a grenade launcher. Outfits have specific perks such as a base score multiplier, a larger clue spawn rate and extended power-up times. Other items are a kevlar vest (absorb more damage), an extra clip, steel toe inserts (stumble duration is shortened) and a medipack.
By connecting through Facebook it is possible to send curses to friends, hindering the gameplay. This can be countered with the Onyx Turtle Charm item that absorbs and cancels incoming curses. Gems are mainly used to access resurrection ankhs that allow the player to continue after dying.
