Trivial Pursuit & Friends
Description official description
Trivial Pursuit & Friends is an adaptation of the Trivial Pursuit board game. This version turns it into a multiplayer-only quiz game that does away with most of the board game elements. There is no game board and the scoring wedges are used as a type of badge that can be earned by correctly answering a number of questions for a certain area.
The first game mode available from the start is the Duel mode. It consists of nine rounds of three questions based on six categories: Entertainment, Events, Nature & Technology, Places, Sports & Hobbies and The Arts. The questions are the same for each player. Every few rounds a spinning wheel is used to change the category. It is played against another online player through matchmaking or against a friend by exchanging a personal friend code. For every question there are 20 seconds to choose an answer. It supports asynchronous multiplayer, so players can answer questions when they have the time and the players are kept informed of the progress of a round through notifications. By doing well experience is earned to level up and badges and titles (the score wedges) are provided for proficiency in certain fields.
The Blitz mode is played with a maximum of four players. They need to answer nine questions and the lowest completion time determines the winner if there is a tie. Blitz is based on five tiers (Wood, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond) where completing a lower tier provides a ticket to participate in the higher ones. The winner of the round also receives a prize. This mode can only be played in real-time. The final game mode called Topics has temporary competitions based around a certain theme. At the end of October 2015 for instance it had a quiz about rugby for the Rugby World Championships and one for Halloween.
The game is free-to-play with hearts as an energy/stamina system to start games. When out of hearts it takes some time for them to recharge or money can be paid to refill it right away. Diamonds are the premium currency. It can be used to buy tickets in the Blitz mode and hints for the Duel mode. Examples of hints are more time per question to answer, viewing the public's past choices with a percentage for each answer, removing two incorrect answers or allowing two tries for the answer. Diamonds are also used for respins at the spinning wheel. At level 10 a feature unlocks to design your own quizzes with custom questions. These are used for the Topics mode. The player can also design a custom avatar and certain questions are tailored to your nationality or proximity.
