Description

David is a fast game with a minimalist look about David. David is an abstract form, presented as a white square, thrown into a world with physics based evil entities. The force that brings David into the world also offers him a gift to defeat evil. Following the interactive introduction where the mechanics are explained, the majority of the game consists of eight gates tied to an enemy or an emotion such as greed, anger, wolf, pride, flee etc. All of the gates lead to a single level where an enemy needs to be defeated.

David can move anywhere on the screen using four movement buttons. There is a floating element to the movement, as if moving in a very low gravity environment, with thrust to levitate, gain speed or slow down. Attacking enemies, usually white shapes, is done by charging small particles in the halo that surrounds him. Once charged, a yellow rectangle appears to show the shot is ready. Independent from David's movement a yellow circle can be moved around to determine the direction and the distance of the shot. While the shot is charged, time also slows down significantly, offering tactical decisions for precise movement or to anticipate the action of enemies. A shot's charge does not need to be completed; it can also be abandoned to quickly move and charge again. A fired shot requires some time to recharge, as the particles need to return, but charging and slowing down time can still be done at any moment.

Each gate offers a unique enemy that requires a very different approach. This is in some way reminiscent to the concept of a game like Shadow of the Colossus where the player uses the same mechanics each time to defeat a single enemy, but first needs to study the options and restrictions of the environment and the enemy movement pattern. Enemies do not have a health meter, but are made up out of many different parts. Using the shots, parts can be removed until none are left. Elements for levels include zones where David cannot move, multiple enemies, shield-like rectangles, a level where his weapon is initially taken away and so on. Each level has two difficulty levels: one where David can be hit multiple times and one where a single hit is fatal. To face the boss through the sin gate, all eight levels need to be completed on both difficulty levels. The game keeps track of the completion time with worldwide leaderboards.

Next to the main game there are five additional levels also available right away, a hidden mini-game and an arena/survival mode where points can be earned to invest in upgrades for the number of particles, health and defense, and these last over the different sessions. The game's soundtrack is included as six MP3 files.
