Unfortunately, playing alone is something of a no-hoper. There is very little challenge in the game, even on expert level. Plus, it takes so long to update the screen between shots that the game soon gets very boring. With more than one human player though, it starts to become a lot more fun, even better in a Skins game with the pressure mounting at the same rate as the prize money. This is definitely one to be played with friends and a few cans of bee..., er, Vimto.

Questicle.net (B-)

My only valid complaint from a gameplay level: every time you take a shot, the game has to load the course. It takes a solid five-to-ten seconds to load the course each time, which is an eternity in 2012. The course looks pretty crappy too; the layouts won’t be winning any Pixel Art awards, that’s for sure. If you have patience for the load times and the willingness to throw caution to the wind, per Mr. Nicklaus’ consent, then you’ll enjoy this round.

Power Play (60 out of 100)

Total!! UK Magazine (57 out of 100)

JNG18HOMCG is just about OK, but Golf fans don't have much choice on the NES - your only other option is to go for Nintendo's Golf Maybe you should take up skateboarding instead.

Nintendo Magasinet (Sweden) (2.5 out of 5)

Mean Machines (48 out of 100)

There are a lot of good golf games appearing on other consoles but, most mysteriously (considering it is the world's number one games system) there aren't any on the Nintendo, and this pretty poor effort doesn't improve the situation. The 3D course display (as well as being ugly and slow to draw) is pointless because it gives very little idea of how far away the course features actually are. This makes gauging the power and direction of the shot ridiculously difficult, and consequently the game is terribly frustrating. The four player option is laudable, but why would four people want to play such a duff game? Give it a miss.

Ultimate Nintendo: Guide to the NES Library ( )

Controls overall are disappointing, especially when trying to aim left/right to compensate for wind or a break on the green. It’s far less intuitive than it should be, resulting in clumsy trial and error. There’s also no backspin opportunity available, which is strange. These faults drag the title down a bit, and the lack of substantial features won’t help you make it out of the clubhouse.
