Infamously insipid and repetitive commentary aside, this year brings a number of incremental improvements to the Madden franchise that make NFL 16 well worth a purchase.

New gameplay mechanics and the new Draft Champions mode mean Madden NFL 16 finally delivers a complete football experience that both casual and hardcore fans should be able to enjoy right from the start.
Aug 25th, 2015 · Xbox One · read reviewEA Sports has taken what was great the last few years with the Madden series and continued that excellence in Madden 16. The gameplay feels as fluid as ever, with the new receiver and quarterback mechanics standing out by far. Draft Champions is easily one of the best additions to the series in a long time and hopefully is only a taste of what is to come in the future, which is in and of itself proof that Madden 16 is far from just a roster update and is definitely not a year to skip.

Simply put, Madden NFL 16 changes the way you play the game. The risk vs. reward aspect of the new passing and defending mechanics adds a level of realism the franchise has never seen. You can catch and throw the ball pretty much exactly how you want, and it feels great when you can pull a big play because of it. On top of that, Draft Champions might be the new game mode weâve been waiting for.

Overall, I am quite happy with this yearâs installment in the Madden NFL franchise. While the changes may not be as sweeping as we have seen in the past, Madden NFL 16 feels like the most complete Madden I have played in well over 10-years. I cannot recall a time where I wanted to play every single mode offered in the game over and over. That is the case this year. The new addition of Draft Champions is a delight and CFM and MUT continue to shine. There remains plenty of room for improvement, but there is no question the franchise has moved closer to a more authentic, true to life NFL experience.

A few new gameplay mechanics and the Fantasy Draft mode might not seem like enough to make you part with your cash, but the subtle changes are enough to make every game feel like a new challenge. Every catch can be game changing, every defensive counter move pivotal. Itâs great that a simple tweak can shift the dynamic so much, and itâs enough to make Madden NFL 16 a more authentic experience for long time players and newcomers alike.

Madden NFL 16 makes a lot of great progression in a year without a ton of new features have been added. I really enjoy the new passing mechanic on both sides of the ball, and the new tweaks make it just feel more like real football. Again I will likely sink close to a hundred hours in my play of Madden this year â the new game play features are some of the best in years, and I canât wait to see them fleshed out over time. Once again Madden comes highly recommended for fans of the pigskin, and as always, kicks off the best time of year to be a gamer.

A revamped gameplay system allows players to take more control than ever, making Madden 16 feel like a polished product. Career mode still has some holes in it simply because of stale options, but the game truly shines online. Overall, a great experience and one to build off of for the future.

Madden 16 feels like EA has finally caught up to the current generation of gaming and can now start to improve the venerable football franchise by even greater strides. There's still some work to be done, but I feel like I'm playing Madden this year because it's fun, and not because I felt obligated as a football fan to have it. Compared to the hurricane of dark perceptions surrounding the National Football League, I'd much rather be playing this.

Iâd definitely say the good outweighs the bad with Madden NFL 16 however, thanks in large part to the excellent addition of the Draft Champions mode, and the overall positive changes made to passing and receiving. Again, this isnât too far removed from Madden â15, but I think you could argue thatâs not necessarily a bad thing either. Ideally the U.I. could be cleaned up a bit, itâs still sluggish, but that seems to be par for the course with most EA Sports titles nowadays. And of course the online side being a bit iffy is a considerable negative, but hopefully thatâs something that can be patched. So whether youâre a yearly consumer of Madden, or youâve taken a bit of a break from the series in recent years, I think Madden NFL 16 will whet your appetite leading into the NFL season.

With a focus on the fundamentals and an eye for simulation-style football, Madden NFL 16 maintains the franchiseâs upward trajectory. Football fans have a solid title in their hands this season.

Throw in some fun new modes, such as Draft Champions, which has you pick players for a fast three-and-out contest with rewards feeding back into Madden Ultimate Team, and you have an improved package as well as improved play on the field. Itâs a nice mix of team building, draft tactics and instant gratification that shows off some of the best side of this area of the game.

Madden NFL 16 isnât perfect. None of them ever are, but itâs always been about finding that balance of what sounds good and what looks good. For those familiar with the franchise, jumping back into the swing of things will be a breeze. New users could benefit from the training gauntlet. Player mechanics are decent but could be stronger; this may be due to the focus being on game modes, especially with the addition of Draft Champions. Still, â16 has been one of the best in recent history and itâs a delight to see EA continually cook up new ways to serve an old dish.

In Madden NFL 16, EA has built upon last year's far-better-than-average game in meaningful and useful ways. It's an approachable game of football, still complex in myriad ways, but better at communicating those complexities than ever before. The new additions all come with their share of issues, but those additions nonetheless feel meaningful to the core game, like ideal fits into what is often feels like a monolithic, largely unchanging franchise. And where Madden has chosen to scale back, it ultimately feels better for it. The last two years have given me a modicum of hope that, even so many years into the era of NFL exclusivity, the Madden team can still find ways to evolve and improve the concept of video game football.

Based on the publisherâs history, thereâs no saying Franchise modeâs dynamic goals or the multiple passing, catching and defending controls will return in future versions of the game. Even so, EA Sports will need to go back to the drawing board to fine-tune these additions to turn them into the game-changers they truly can be. The developerâs decision to gift players more receiving controls was met with issues in how those new mechanics played out, and the benefits of those fresh aspects of the on-field play donât balance out the woes of Franchise modeâs shortcomings in its progression system. Even enjoyment from the best part of Madden 16 in Draft Champions dries up after a few trips through the mode. Madden NFL 16 is a good transitional entry in the series, introducing promising features that are either incomplete or weighed down by bugs.
