Splatoon 2 is just about everything you could ask for from a sequel. It builds on everything the original set up and then some; almost every single major issue people had with the first game has been resolved, showing that Nintendo is genuinely listening and wants to deliver the absolute best experience possible. It maintains the freshness you’d expect and throws in countless big and small changes and additions, every one of them for the better. Anyone who says Nintendo can’t do online should be eating their words right now; Splatoon 2 is simply inkredible and continues Nintendo's trailblazing first year of Switch stunners.

Put any doubt in your mind away about Splatoon 2 being some enhanced port or 1.5 release. The improved single-player experience, the enhanced and multitude of online modes for all skill levels and Salmon Run which is just a ton of fun make Splatoon 2 the complete Switch game. The game’s style and charm are terrific and it runs at an amazing 1080p 60fps rock solid the entire time. With a year or more of updates promised and regular Splatfests planned, Splatoon 2 will among your most played games for a while to come.

Splatoon 2 is—like everyone expected—more Splatoon. But Splatoon is so much fun that it's tough to see that as anything but a great thing. The issues with the Switch's online interface are not just bad, they're terrible—but I'm having such a great time playing the game it's tough to stay mad about them. It's fun from top to bottom, and in one of the greatest catalogs in all of video games, Splatoon remains one of the most entertaining things Nintendo's ever created.

Overall, Splatoon 2 is definitely an upgrade from the Wii U title. Nintendo showed that it learned from early issues and wanted to make a better overall experience. While there still may be a few small details that need taken care of still, such as the weapon switching in matches, the improvements make this a great title for Switch owners to pick up.

Ganz egal ob in der Single-Player-Kampagne, lokal oder übers Internet in tollen Multiplayer-Modi inklusive dem neuen Salmon Run und mit vielen Detailverbesserungen, komplett neuen Waffen wie den Doppler-Waffen und vielem mehr; Nintendos zweiter Tinten-Streich unterhält auf hohem Niveau und ermöglicht es auch weniger geübten Spielern durch das Tinten-Einfärben im Revierkampf einen sinnvollen Beitrag zum Team-Ergebnis zu leisten. Jedoch gilt wie bei anderen Shooter-Spielen auch hier: Wer online wirklich vorne mitmischen will, der muss viele Stunden investieren, sonst wird man ein ums andere Mal geplättet. Doch dass der Mario-Konzern hier wie gesagt Einsteigern auch andere Möglichkeiten anbietet, sich zu unterhalten und dabei besser zu werden, ist Big N hoch anzurechnen. Wir sind jedenfalls äusserst zuversichtlich, dass “Splatoon 2” wie schon dem Vorgänger mit weiteren Updates ein langes online-Leben bevorsteht, und geben dem aussergewöhnlichen Shooter zwei tintenbekleckste Daumen hoch.

Under the right circumstances, Splatoon 2 is absolutely amazing. As long as you’re online rocking Turf Wars and Ranked Battles, those circumstances are way right. Salmon Run is brilliant, but only being able to play it at specific times is downright awful, and the local form of it requires a wealth of systems and games to work optimally. Still, even with those woeful limitations, Splatoon 2 is the best online game on Switch and with more updates coming down the road, could stay that way for a very long time. This might not be quite as fresh as it was in 2015, but it is certainly, as Marina and Pearl say, “off the hook.”

If you're the type of person who tried Splatoon for a little while and gave up, Nintendo hasn't done a whole lot to change your mind outside of adding a horde mode. But with more concessions for higher-level play and a deeper meta, veterans will be jumping ship from Wii U to Switch in an instant. Here's hoping that Splatoon 2 gets even more long-term support and Salmon Run is free of the shackles of a "once in a while" event for those of you who don't have multiple Switches at your disposal.

There’s a lot to love in Nintendo’s second iteration of its quirky shooter, especially the way Splatoon 2 emphasizes splatting the ground just as much as it does inking your opponents. The new additions to its single-player campaign and multiplayer modes are a step in the right direction, but it still has some work to do to make joining online games and voice chat less of a hassle. Still, with an addicting new Salmon Run co-op mode and the promise of free updates like the ones that helped the original Splatoon come into its own, I expect Splatoon 2 to keep me hooked.

Rather than put out something that resembled a full-on 'true' sequel, this is more of a refinement, an acknowledgement of not only the shortcomings of the first game, but also, as mentioned before, that there are titles out there who do a lot of this stuff better and have been doing it for a long time. There's no shame in lifting any of that, because other arena shooters could do far worse than lifting something from Splatoon 2 for themselves. Except that app thing. Let's forget about that in a hurry.

Kada sam, prije dvije godine, pisao o prvom Splatoonu, završio sam tekst zaključkom da je igra "u srži jednostavno napucavanje bojom, sa skrivenom dubinom koja mu osigurava dugovječnost" - i to je još istina. Usprkos novim arenama, oružjima i opremi i platformi, ništa se značajno nije promijenilo. Mehanika igre još uvijek besprijekorno funkcionira a veselo, adrenalinom nabijeno napucavanje bojom i dalje je dobra alternativa krvavijim i brutalnijim online naslovima jer vas, pobijedili ili izgubili, uvijek ostavlja u dobrom raspoloženju. I sa željom za još jednom, kratkom ali slatkom partijom.

Splatoon 2 is a measured dose of the same game you likely remember from the Wii U, a colorfully-inked tour-de-force of multiplayer action with a single-player afterthought. You’ll want to clock hours and hours in-game for sure, but you’ll be left scratching your head at some of the strange decisions Nintendo made this time around. Luckily, there’s still plenty of fun to be had here, even if you can’t decide if you’re a kid or a squid.

Nintendo is dicht bij de basis gebleven met Splatoon 2. Dezelfde Inklings, een campagne die dezelfde opzet heeft, en Turf War als basis van het online gedeelte. De veranderingen die Nintendo heeft doorgevoerd zijn misschien niet zo opvallend, maar het zijn wel precies de veranderingen die nodig zijn om de game, of eigenlijk de serie, een langer leven te geven. De campagne is niet origineel, maar erg goed uitgewerkt, misschien op de wat eentonige bossfights na. Het is echter vooral de multiplayer waar Nintendo precies de juiste verbeteringen in heeft doorgevoerd. De nieuwe wapens zijn nuttig of grappig, en de opties om een team van vrienden te kunnen maken kan - samen met de coöp-spelvorm - de levensduur van de game flink rekken.

Notez toutefois que le mix entre grinding forcé, modes et maps en rotation et longue attente entre les matchs peut froisser les plus impatients devant un titre qui leur demande une certaine assiduité pour dévoiler l’ensemble de son catalogue. Pour les autres, vous risquez d’y perdre de nombreux après-midi…

Aber rein vom spielerischen Standpunkt aus betrachtet macht Nintendos kindgerechter Third-Person-Shooter fast alles richtig. Perhaps Nintendo includes the busywork of a leveling system to distract players from the fact that they’re limited to playing on a paltry number of maps for arbitrary periods of time. In any case, the developer could have made a better game if it had increased the variety of environments one might interact in within a given slot of time. Theoretically, you can break up the repetition of the same old maps by checking out Splatoon 2’s single-player mode, but completing that campaign is more of a foregone conclusion than a challenge given the frequent checkpoints and tutorial-heavy narration. When it comes down to it, there are too many things Nintendo could have cut from Splatoon 2 to turn it into a faster, more furious, and more focused game.

Splatoon 2 should have taken more risks and introduced more new content rather just be a near carbon copy of the Wii U original. Nintendo should have worked until 2018 at the earliest to provide a proper sequel to provide both veterans and newcomers a fun and fulfilling experience. At the least this new title is a welcome distraction.
